It sounds like it. With Missouri and Nebraska talking about defecting to the Big 10 the Big 12 gave them an ultimatum.....2 weeks to decide whether they're in or they're out.

It's being widely reported today that the bastards in Nebraska will announce their intent to join the Big 10 on Friday...this is contingent on the Big 10 extending an offer....but unless ND steps in within the next 2 days...they're surely have that offer.

Texas wants to retain the Big 12, but with the premiere team in the North leaving, it looks like they'll accept an invitation to the PAC 10, and take Tech, A&M, and Colorado with them

Kansas, K-State, Iowa State, and Baylor will most likely be left out in the cold.

This sucks balls. Kansas is one of the most storied basketball programs in the country, Iowa State football struggles, but has been competitive in basketball and a perennial wrestling powerhouse.

Nebraska chasing a few million is going to leave major programs in a lurch.

Which brings about another gripe of mine. We're heading in a direction of Super Conferences....a direction that will leave average (the majority of universities) programs out in the cold. Four major conference will form with tax exempt status, and rake in hundreds of millions of dollars, while other universities pay the price.

It's not right, and it down right pisses me off.

    Rant Over

Why? The more competitive the Big Ten gets the more kids will want to come to our schools, IMO.

Texas and Colorado will join the Pac-10 along with Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M.

Well since Colorado is getting the invite that means Baylor is left out.

Wow the Big 12 is gone. I expect ND to follow suite and join with the Big Ten.

I should say its pretty much official now.

As a guy who lives in Kansas, I feel kind of like the guy who just got left at the alter.

This has been a fear ever since the inception of the Big 12. Nebraska isn't doing anyone any favors, they're just looking out for themselves. But Texas is really the villian here. First they move the Big 8 headquarters to Texas, then the Title games, and now they're taking everything and breaking up the conference.

**** Nebraska. And **** Texas too.

Nebraska will be going to the Big 10, pushing that conference to 12 teams. I would expect that Notre Dame will keep their independence, meaning that the Big 10 will stay at 12. 12 teams gives them a chance to have a Conference championship.

I could see some if not all of the Texas and Oklahoma schools going to the Pac-10 to make the Pac-16. Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State are the favorites. Let's be honest, as long as the Pac whatever gets Texas and Oklahoma they don't care. The remaining spots will be taken by Colorado, Texas A&M, and Baylor ... two of those three will go. I could see A&M in the SEC, leaving Baylor and Colorado going. I could also see Colarado going to the Mountain West (probably where they belong), putting A&M and Baylor into the Pac-16. Once again, going to 16 teams will ensure that they make some extra money with a Conference championship.

The big winner in this is the Rose Bowl, who will benefit from Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska all getting chances to play in their game each year - and the game will be more significant with the Big 10 / Pac 22 Championship games. You wanted a football playoff? Forget about it, it'll never happen ... why would it when you can make all this money by breaking up a conference?

The fates of the north schools of Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, and Iowa State are still fluid, and not really known at this time. I could see Missouri eventually getting into the Big 10, possibly with Notre Dame in a few years. Iowa State could eventually get in just based on geography.

That leaves Kansas and Kansas State, my home state schools, as the ones out in the cold. They both pretty much got simultaneously screwed by Nebraska, Texas, and Oklahoma. The thought of breaking them up into different conferences really blows, as does the thought of one or both of them being termed a "Mid Major."

Once again, with feeling. **** Nebraska. And **** Texas.

This will change the landscape of college sports. There are rumblings that the BCS is essentially trying to do away with the NCAA. It's all about the football contracts, not basketball, which is what the Big 12 North schools are known for. Unfortunately, that leaves them waiting to see if someone wants to claim them.

I think the whole thing is bull****. A century's worth of rivalries (the old Big 8) down the drain.

    **** Nebraska. And **** Texas.

The rumors leaking out now is that Colorado has confirmed they are going to be going to the Pac-10, making it the Pac-11, at least for now.

The latest school to be left out in this scenario would be Baylor, though that could change if A&M decides to bolt for the SEC rather than the Pac-42.

    This really does suck.

To be in the Big Ten the school has to be at a certain mark academically (can't recall what it is) but I'm not sure Iowa State meets it (as they've never been discussed before).

I was trying to be nice to them. I know you are right on the Big 10 academic qualifier.

I really think Iowa State may be pretty screwed, even more than KU and KSU. Maybe they go to the Missouri Valley Conference?

Iowa State won't miss out on academic standards.... they'll miss out on the fact that their athletics suck. It may put a big dent in a nice Iowa/Iowa State rivalry though...

Nebraska is going to the Big-10

Colorado is going to the Pac-10 (news conf. friday:wink2:)

Texas wants it's 4 teams (A&M, Tech and Baylor) to all stay together.

I BELIEVE that Mizz is going to follow Nebraska to the Big-10

Left out are going to be Kansas, Kansas State. Two pretty damn good schools.

    This

Iowa State is top notch academically. It's football program has traditionally floundered, but their Basketball, Wrestling, and VB programs have been traditionally strong.

This is such a **** move. A money grab in amateur tax exempt athletics blew up a top notch conference and will end up costing Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, and Missouri's universities millions of dollars. It's absolutely bull****, and quite honestly it should stop. The issue with college football is and always has been the BCS. It's an arbitrary system that favors certain schools over others. And that will be MORE the case with these super conferences. While in the meantime legitimate universities will be left out in the cold.

Iowa State in the Big 10? Unlikely as the already have Iowa for the regional broadcasts. Missouri, Kansas, or K-State (one not both) will make it into the big 10 before Iowa State does.

I'm personally gut wrenched as I watch this happen. On any given Sunday Iowa State, Kansas, K-State, Colorado, and Baylor can dance toe to toe with the other. Iowa State routinely beat the hawkeyes for the last decade, and beat Minnesota in a bowl game last year.

Best of the best they're not, but they deserve better than to get shat on and have tens of millions of dollars ripped from their athletic programs. It's an atrocious move, and local economies and accademics will suffer for it.

As a Pac-10 fan (after my Gators allegiance, of course), I like this idea of a super conference. I feel bad for Kansas though, as quite frankly, this is only happening because of football. Basketball and other sports, are a secondary consideration, which is too bad.

If it grows to the Pac-16, I expect no championship game between the Pac East/West and them to push for two BCS bowl bids for the super conference.

Also, could Kansas and Kansas State relocate to the SEC? I know they aren't geographically relevant, but neither is Texas to the Pacific-10. That might end up being an ideal situation for Kansas/Kansas State and guarantee them some money.

I would expect Kansas and Kansas State to be invited to join the Big 10, along with Iowa State.

Added to Nebraska and its present membership, that would give them 15, right? Notre Dame would be the jewel in their crown then to make it 16.

**** is hitting the fan today....

    From what I understand...

Missouri is not getting an offer from the Big 10.
Nebraska will announce a move to the Big 10 tomorrow
    Colorado joing the PAC-10

Other stories that are starting to fly around....

    Oklahoma State to Pac-10 (unconfirmed)
Texas and Texas A&M to Big 10 (unconfirmed)
    Oklahoma to SEC (unconfirmed)
Apparently the Big 12 was set to vote out Missouri

There are crazy conflicting stories flying around on the radio right now....my head is spinning...I hope not one jumps the gun until we get it all sorted out.

I don't see Texas going to the Pac-10 without Baylor (Colorado evidently took their spot)
But anything could happen at this point. It's a volatile situation right now....nasty....

I'm torn right now. I don't know what's going to happen.

Sentiment is that this is there is no way in hell Texas goes to the Big 10. The state of Texas is vehemotly against splitting up their schools. I personally don't see Texas making that move...they want their own network...can't have it there.

IF this report is true, i think it's Texas rounding up their cohorts and chopping Nebraska's legs out from under them. The big 10 won't expand THAT fast, and if they created the offer with the big 10 it would put Nebraska back in lin..they could say "Hey...it's either we take your spot, or we can all stay together". It would be a brilliant way to put the big 12 in line to play their kind of ball. This is just getting nuts though....

There is no way Texas goes to the Big Ten. Adding Texas also means adding A&M, Tech and maybe Baylor. No way the Big Ten lets Tech and Baylor in.
Not to mention there is zero chance of Texas getting their own network as a Big Ten school.
My best guess as to how all this shakes out. We will have 4 16-team conferences who will control college football.

Pac10: Adds Texas, A&M, Texas Tech, OU and OSU. Becomes the Pac16.

SEC: Adds 4 of FSU, Miami, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Virgina Tech or Virgina.

ACC: Raids the Big East of it's football schools.

Big Ten: Adds Nebraska (will be officially announced on Friday). Then adds Mizzou and Rutger or Maryland to make 15. Notre Dame falls into line when they realize they could be left out in the cold as 4 Super Conference are formed. Becomes the Big 16.

MWC: Will add Boise St, and the leftovers of the Big 12 to make a decent 14-team conference.

Texas doesn't go anywhere without A&M or Baylor IMO. Football is HUGE in that state, many higher ups in the government are Baylor fans and won't let them be left out in the cold. They're already talking about the political repercussions against UT if they move without Baylor.

I hope that's the case anyway. UT is in the driving seat with the Big 12, and there's no reason that the Big 12 should be the conference to dissolve. If Texas holds firm they win the love of the rest of the Big 12 conference and will be able to run the league with virtual impunity. They'd be able to get their Texas network (which won't happen in either the big or Pac 10), and the rest of the teams would realize how much they do for the conference.

Long shot IMO.....but that Baylor thing could be the hangup. It'll be interesting to see where the chips fall in a few weeks....

I don't want these super conferences, and I don't want the Big XII to go, I just want a Big Ten championship game. Heck, they would have to move the teams around a little (from south to north), but they could get TCU to take Nebraska's place.

That's the thing, the Big 12 is very viable on it's own. There's no reason why Texas can't stay put and have the big 12 replace the 2 schools that we just lost. I'm not understanding the Texas attitude of "If Nebraska leaves, we're taking our ball and going home".

As it sits the Big 12 makes on average equal to or more money for their teams than the Pac-10. With Texas Tech, A&M, and Baylor, Texas essentially has 4/12 (well 4/10 now) votes in the conference. There's no big 12 network and I'd bet that the rest of the big 12 would be willing to commit to setting one up at this point. Their contract with Fox is up and was going to be restructured this week (before Nebraska bailed). Their ESPN contract isn't up for 4 years, but with the way things are I'd say leverage the damn situation, tell ESPN that their contract will be with a non-existent conference if they don't restructure in tandem with Fox, and get the conference back on their feet.

Colorado means jack **** to the conference, and is easily replaced. If they want a stud in the North they could move an OK team up there...sure they won't ***** about the competition.

I'm just blown away that the Big 12 seems to be bending over like this. They had a strong showing last year, and there's no reason they should be one of the conferences to dissolve. THEY should be pilfering other conferences. Between Texas and the midwest, they HAVE to have enough sets to start their own lucrative network.

IMO Texas would be foolish to bail. My biggest worry is that these things didn't happen sooner, and it might be too late to play off the Big 12 as a strong conference worthy of television investments, and is now unappealing to move to.

Sucks.....Texas holds all the cards...but never fear....i sent this to Ricky earlier today on twitter....i'll let you know if he replies....

@dolphinsrb34 any chance u can do me a solid and tell Texas to stay in the Big 12 and save Iowa States program? Ill owe u one....K thx by!

Some twitter fiend floated a rumor that appears to be picking up steam, and would fit in with some things that happened at ISU today.

    More murmurs

ISU, Kansas, K-State, and Missouri are in Limbo, and there's talk from the east that they might snatch up the big 12 teams in limbo to bolster their football program. The Big East needs to grow or get poached, and in this climate it could be a perfect fit. It would immediately grow their pool of football teams creating a western conference, and create one hell of a super basketball conference with the addition of Kansas, K-State, and ISU.

Early rumors, but it makes sense. With the Big 10, Pac 10 expansions, and the dominant SEC there's room for ONE more conference (2 max) at the table......They already have a lucrative deal with ESPN, and this would allow them to have a playoff and BCS births. The big east also has a strong contingency of basketball schools in the area.

rumors rumors rumors...going to be a weird few weeks...
