Today the Arizona Cardinals announced that they've signed Sports24/7 to be their general manager for the 2011 season. He will be charged with the task of turning around one of the worst teams in the NFL. At the press conference to announce the hire, Cardinals owner Bill Bidwell seemed excited to have a GM with Sports24/7's pedigree in the fold.
Returning the Cardinals to glory will be no easy task. Their offense was downright awful last year ranking 31st in the leauge, worse than every team but Carolina. Their defense wasn't much better ranking 29th in yards given up and 30th in points given up. Sports24/7 sounded up for the challenge though.
Those are awfully lofty expectations for a team that struggled so badly last season, but insiders around the league feel that Sports24/7 is capable of fulfilling those goals. With a pretty good draft history it will be important for him to capitalize on the Cardinals' selections near the top of each round. He was asked what he might be looking to do with those picks and if he might consider trading them.
He was later asked about the big name players on the roster and what his plan will be for them.
When asked about the quarterback position he was pretty direct.
It remains to be seen if this team can be turned around so quickly, but one thing we know for sure from Sports24/7's past is it's going to be a fun ride covering this team this offseason.
