I was exhausted from an eighteen hour work day..came home..watched the 'phins beat the snot out of the Jets, and went to sleep thinking "it's in the bag".

Then I woke up and watched sportscenter. ugh.

 

hey at least it was decided early in the game....:lol:

suxked though....I hate Miami's numerous playoff blowouts....

 

I was at that game and even though we lost it remains a fantastic memory for me. I remember walking out of the stadium immediately afterwards and knowing that I had watched one of the greatest games ever.

 

December 2002, Week 17 in Foxborough.

I was in attendance. What an epic collapse -- I'm still haunted by that loss.

 

I dunno, the early blowouts feel worse to me. It's like there's 5 minutes of competition and 55 minutes of sorrow, unresolved anger, and contemplation of suicide. Plus half-time.

 

I think that the complete, early blowouts hurt me more than the close disappointments at the end. I always watch the whole game so those blowouts are torture. And among the end of game disappointments, it hurts me far worse if a team comes back against us than it does if we're coming back and fall short.

I think the game in which Dwight Stephenson hurt his knee that put him out of the league. Having a dominant OL deteriorate into what we've seen since then....sad....of course it was against the jests, which makes my disdain for that team even greater, but getting cut blocked, after the play was past him and then it ending his career....very sad day for Dolphans...

 

In addition to the ones pointed out above,

2009 - Vs the Colts and New Orleans. We had both those games and somehow ended up losing. Turning out to be the super bowl teams. We played the best, had a game plan to beat the best and barely lost both games. I bet that is still a point of how far this team has come since Sparano and Co. have come in.

Those games stung, if we won one or both of those close games, it could have been a playoff year and possibly a playoff run. As well as playoffs in 2 straight years.

 

I gotta go with the playoff loss to Jax as well. Marino was like my childhood hero. If it wasnt for him, I wonder what kind of NFL fan Id be today. I pretty much knew his career was about over, so there was a hope beyond all hope that marino made it to the super bowl that year for that story book ending kinda super bowl victory,........Man, such a bad way to go out.....

 

I will add the '95 playoff game against SD where Stoyo missed the FG. We easily could have made the Super Bowl that year, although we probably would have been smoked by San Fran again.

All I remember is Natrone Means running all over us. And of course the missed FG at the end.

 

I hear ya, I'm the opposite...in a close game, there is always that one pivotal game changing play that would stick with me, and haunt me until the next season....in a blowout ehhh there are several, take your pick....at least you know they dont deserve it, because they werent good enough that day to perform, and execute, in the close game you are that good to advance or win that game you know? and heaven forbid if it is something having to do with a penalty or lack there of...

 

I remember that game... that has to be the toughest loss I have seen too.

 

Out of my lifetime: Super Bowl XIX. Marino's first and only one. Just domination. If Miami won this, Marino wouldn't have that asterisk next to GOAT QB. He'll always be the Greatest of All Time who never won the big one.

In my lifetime: Gonna have to go with 2008 AFC Wild Card vs. Ravens. Reminiscent of the last time Miami played the Ravens in the playoffs. 20-3. Blown out. It was an epic collapse. Nothing worked. Pennington threw 4 INT's, nobody could run the ball. Wildcat got de-clawed. Dropped passes. Sacks. Fumbles. 27-9. Damn that hurt. This was the first Miami playoff game I watched considering I was 9 the first time we played the Ravens in the playoffs. Disappointment. Frustration. I was riding high because 2007 seemed so far away.

 

When Marino retired...

 

1. The Sea of Hands loss to the Oakland Raiders in 1974 (It ended our Dynasty).
2. Dan Marino's last game where Jax killed us.
3. Losing to the Chargers in OT in the 1981 playoffs.
4. 1982 lost Superbowl to the Redskins.
5. 1983 playoff loss to Seattle.
6. 1984 Superbowl loss to the 49ers, Marino's only SB.
7. 1985 playoff loss to the Patriots in Miami.
8. The Monday Night loss to the Jets.

 

Last year's Colts game was especially hard for me considering my family are all colts fans and I live in the middle of Colts country

2000 vs. the Jets.

It would be the Dan Marino game if I watched it. I loved Dan. I was in Hawaii that year. Game started at 7am. So by the time I woke up it was over. Turned on the TV. Saw the score. Turned it off and hit the beach.

 

It would have to be Marinos last game. I remember stiil holding hope for us winning but even as a kid I knew it was over after Fred Taylor broke a cutback run for a touchdown. It was the end for Marino. And I still havent seen an arm like his.

 

The Jacksonville 62-7 loss was the last complete Dolphin game I watched for the next 8 years. Dan was the f'n man, and that was the completely wrong way for him to go out, on the sideline watching Damon Huard.

Honorable mention to Chargers 1994 playoff loss. Dominated in second half after 21-6 halftime lead... defense, lack of running game, and a kicker let Marino and fans down in a special year coming back from injury. I was ten years old, second year as a little Dolfanatic, I remember crying when Stoyanovich missed the field goal after Marino took them into FG range in less than 30 seconds.

The best loss the team suffered IMO was Super Bowl VI, one of the most one-sided Super Bowls of all time. It got Shula and the team ready for a perfect season and the only two NFL championships in franchise history.

The Collapse at Foxboro. Up 11 with 4 minutes left. well..you know.

 

Mine has to be the MNF collapse as well, just hearing Jumbo Elliot brings up bad memories. I was a sophomore in high school and came to class pretty tired and cranky, not my usual self. Teacher asked what was wrong, said I stayed up watching longest MNF game in history, couldn't even add that my team blew it. That's not really the biggest loss for the Dolphins not being a SB/Playoff game, but just personally. Dan's last game was also tough but once you saw what was happening it was just depressing, wasn't like missing a late second FG and having that crushed feeling.

Strangely enough that was maybe the least disappointed I was after any Dolphins loss. I was hoping for a win obviously and hated they lost, but just didn't hit hard. For so many years we had been bad and just the season before we had only won a single game. So for us to even have a winning record was pretty nice, then the way we got in the playoffs. Needing to beat the Jets at their stadium with the QB they dumped, I got so up for that game that it almost felt like their Super Bowl and was so excited for the win.

It was close to the end of the 3rd quarter IIRC...

The Jaguars were marching close to another TD, when all of a sudden... the SPRINLERS went off on the Dolphins Defense...

It was a site... they stopped the game (TV time out I believe) for a minute or two till the sprinklers were shut off...

At least that is how I remember it... anyone else was there???

 

The Colts one hurt, for sure. I haven't been a Dolphins fan long so I don't have a lot of the memories (other than when we just flat out were bad) but the Colts one was definitely tough to watch. Colts had, what, fourteen minutes of possession? Jeez. I think that game made me become more of a football fan in general than a pure Dolphins fan.

Chargers 1994 playoff loss...period.

Nothing has stuck with me the most and the longest.

There are a lot of honorable mentions here but this one was the worst for me.

I swear to god this loss poisoned my soul and F'ed me up my senior yr of highschool. I could've gone to a great college but due to the depression of this loss (seriously) I went on another path. I have since slowly learned to let things go and just remember that this is all just a football game which we are all fans of. I dont get paid like the players do to be a fan (and they dont seem to take it as hard) so I need to just accept and move on. But back then, I didn't know better. Even now sometimes you guys might see me on here during a game day in which we are losing bad get pissed off but eventually I cool down.

Super Bowl XIX, Dan Marino's 1 chance to win the big one, he deserved to have just one SB win at least considering his career.

 

Marino's stats in that game hahahha 24-38....268....3TD's 0INTS.....

 

For me it would be the SB loss to the 49ers. I really thought we had a chance to win that one.

I hated losing to the Jets in that 51-45 encounter too. Losing Hugh Green as well.

Others would include the Jax game and the monday night nightmare against the Jets.

I think someone has already mentioned the game when Marty Lyons had a cheap shot at Dwight, but as I recall we won that game, but that was a huge loss if you count losing a player.

That was hard to take, but I was also VERY disappointed when we lost the AFC Championship in 1992. We were at home and should have beaten the Bills that day. I still have never understood that loss.
