The Bills could release Angelo Crowell because he opted for surgery on his knee after he told the Bills he would rehab it. He was expected to miss 2-4 weeks but he now may be put on IR and come to an injury settlement. Crowell had 126 tackles last year for the Bills. I like him as a player, I would like to bring him here if he was cut but he may be too small for the management. He's 6'1, 246 lbs.
Also, Left Tackle Jason Peters will be reporting to the Bills. The team is expected to receive a two-game roster exemption. They also aren't likely to play Peters this Sunday. He is expected to start on September 14th.

Makes the Bills weaker for sure. But cutting him would be stupid. At least get a pick for him. If I were running a Cover 2 D, I'd be lining up for Crowell's services. And I don't like it when people consider such and such LB is too small. I'll take Zach Thomas over any hulking mass of meat in any system any day.

Crowell is an injury risk, though, and it may take longer than the expected 2-4 weeks for him to heal.
This problem has been nagging at him the entire pre-season, and reportedly, it's not getting any better. According to Jauron, it swells up extremely often. They tried some different things with strengthening the knee during training camp, but none of those methods were working.
Also, Jauron noted he could possibly miss up to half of the season, with the surgery.
As for Crowell as a player...he's a good linebacker, an above average player. But, honestly, I don't think it's a MAJOR blow to the team (and this is coming from a Crowell fan - since the time he was drafted from Virginia). He's better than Ellison, but overall, just a solid player.
This whole situation is extremely bizarre...it caught me completely off-guard, honestly. -
I still don't think that they should just outright release him. Shop him and see if you can fetch a draft pick for someone desperate.
I'm thinking that if Crowell is released, Poszluszny is moved outside with DiGorgio inside. I liked DiGorgio this past season. Your thoughts?GoBills24 likes this. -
DiGiorgio is a versatile player himself, and has worked on the outside in training camp some, if I remember correctly. The wild card in this whole scenario is Keith Ellison. Really, the only knock on him was his lack of mass...but he has put on a LOT of muscle this off-season, so we'll see where that goes.alen1 likes this. -
Ellison is injured every time I check in on him. I don't know what to say about him. I've seen him play a few times but I haven't been able to form an opinion on his game.GoBills24 likes this. -

Crowell seems to be screwing around with the Bills right now. He said he would get the arthroscopic surgery done so the Bills put him on IR. Now, he's putting off the surgery to get a second opinion. Only one problem; the Bills can't take him off the IR and he is officially out for the year. However, if Crowell gets a second opinion and is told that he can rehab it, things could change. If he was to choose the rehab path despite being on the IR, he could reach an injury settlement with the Bills in the next four days which would release him. The Bills could then re-sign him and have him back this season, at a later point though. Not exactly sure when later, likely after week six like the PuP list.

Yeah, smooth Buffalo. Release one of your best defensive players so that you won't have him in the future. Real smooth. Sorry Bills, but I'm loving that Crowell opted for season ending surgery. Too many times teams screw over the players and Crowell is going to do what is best for him. Is it selfish? Maybe. But he might've not been able to return until late into the season and if he had he wouldn't have been 100% until 2009.
As for Peters, he's reporting two days before the season starts. He won't be 100% until October. Teams will take advantage of him in the first three or four games, starting with Kerney on Sunday if Peters even suits up. -
And it's kind of tough to say when he'll be 100%, different players get up to speed on things at different levels.
