Both players since camp, we're the most impressive, in terms of attitude, body and focus.. Bess, Wow, has the dude improved his quickness or what, it was evident that first practice that something was different there, he was always a thick player, maybe this weight he dropped just fits him better, once you figure out the routes and how you wanna play the game, drop a little weight and do things quicker.. I thought it was interesting how he played on the perimeter, like Pate always says, he's not just a slot guy, damn he looked good out there running deep outs, that deep slant he did was really good. I know it's not the popular choice, but I'd like to see him back at punt return to see if that quickness translates. SS24...he's reacting off those dig and curl routes with less wasted steps, his body is ridiculous for the position, and he's gaining confidence because he's even tackling, penalty my ***, that int in Carolina was sweet.. When VD takes that other spot, (he's playing better) we might have something good there.
Sean Smith is my pick for breakout player on defense. With Vontae Davis playing better, and the addition of Richard Marshall, we really do have 3 solid corners.
Bess is easily our best receiver and I think he too is more than just a slot guy. Easily my favorite player on the team. Hell my sons middle name is Devon (spelled differently) but partially after him. Anyway....I think he tops 100 receptions this year for us. He's the only guy Tannehill has to throw to.

I really never had any doubts on Sean Smith's development. I figured it would be positive if given a little time. The fanbase doesn't understand the concept of developing players. They are quick to say this player sucks or that player sucks. Then they disappear when they are proven wrong. You know who you are.
I never thought he would be better than Vontae, but it did say he Had to improve his game this year or else what he's brought to the table the last three, wouldn't be good enough..It looks as though the dude had a revelation, and good for him if he has! I may have been wrong on that but I won't give up on my boy VD, lol..maybe that revelation will last the rest of his career, and not just a contract one..I hope he wants to put the work in year round, and I hope his smarts keep him in check. Two very unique talents.
I'd like to know if something inspired Sean (besides contract)or was it just his own self awareness.. Probably contract..who wouldn't. Its no coincidence that the two players who are most impressive thus far are the two most impressive this offseason. With SS, VD, Marshall and Carroll we should be better. Along with.better coverage from two very good coverage linebackers, I look for a good year from that group all together, their all in their primes.. I liked the confidence Carroll was playin with.
Maybe, but couldn't it also be possible that his whole life he played WR and the transition from WR to CB took him some time to adjust to? ESPECIALLY as the level of competition got higher?
Bingo.I don't always play lights out, but when I do, it is during the last year of my contract. Follow the money, my friends.
Yeah, but it's not like SS was a bum before now. He always had the talent and had flashes. He's now maturing. And if it's a new contract that got him to this point, then so be it. The important thing is that he's playing well for our defense.
That's sure possible, but I think the overhaul in his personality, as well, suggests that he's got a major life concern at issue here IMO.
True, I don't think one has to be exclusive to the other though. For example: He could be getting better in his technique at the position and adjusting better due to his experience all the while knowing that his future as a starter in the league could hinge on his play this year.
So ONE good PRE SEASON half and all is forgotten? Just last game he had numerous missed tackles due to to him arm tackling. You don't understand the concept that 1 good doesn't negate 10 wrongs.
He should be motivated by it being a contract war , it is a problem if that is the primary reason though.
I look at it like he knew he needed to play better, and to do that it takes commitment, and he's doing it, so clean slate ya know.
i think theyre just making VD nervous because he came to camp out of shape, as they should. but i believe he will be starting by week 3. there's no doubt bess is our go to guy. and i am glad sean smith is stepping it up.
