Las Vegas sports books are taking down odds for the New England Patriots’ season-opening game on speculation that quarterback Tom Brady could be suspended for his role in the NFL team’s use of underinflated footballs.New England was a 6.5-point favorite against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first game of the National Football League regular season. Las Vegas sports book William Hill Plc took that game off the board, as well as its American Football Conference East division odds, where the Patriots were 2-5 favorites.
Those odds could shift before they are re-posted, depending on the extent to which NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell punishes the team or Brady, who was named Most Valuable Player after the team’s Super Bowl win this year.

“Considering they were the third highest favorite to win the Super Bowl, the co-favorite for the AFC Conference, and an overwhelming favorite to win the AFC East, we are taking them down until we hear the official word on if Tom Brady gets suspended,” Bovada sports book manager Kevin Bradley said in a statement. “If Brady does get suspended, it will have a huge impact on all of these odds.”
