If he would take a low base/high incentive contract with option years, then absolutely.

A healthy Bob Sanders is the second best free safety in the league.

Best case scenario is, he stays healthy and takes our defense to the next level.

Worst case scenario is, he blows his ACL in camp and we're out of a minimum contract.

How is that not worth the gamble?

The ideal situation would be to couple him with a rookie. In the event that he goes down, the rookie steps in under Sanders' tutoring. There aren't too many guys in the game that can read the field like Bob. This is a no risk/high reward.

Furthermore, I'd pass on Asomugha if it meant getting Sanders. Sanders fills in a more pressing need and would cost about 5% of what Aso would.

But ti would not surprise if he wound up someplace like Denver where he'd have a clearer chance at Starting, for us he would be in the mix at FS and would be starting from behind Clemons and Jones.

 

He played Strong Safety by title in Indianapolis, but he's more of a open-field tackler/ballhawk (Think Polamalu).

That said, I'm sure he could play Free with his speed and instincts... if not, I'm sure a guy as smart as Nolan could figure a way to utilize him and Bell effectively.

 

No thanks but I have to say I disagree about Sanders being made of glass. Yeah he is injured quite often but you would be hard pressed to find another guy anywhere that gives up his body like this guy. The Colts had to be in fear of putting him on the field in certain situations ( big lead, preseason) cause he just absolutely brings it every down he is in there. He would be a great guy to have early in his career but he is spent due to his own recklessness.

He's a midget dwarf; he poses for trophy statues in 1:1 scale. And that's the reason he's injured ALWAYS - he's a tiny little guy playing a big man's game.

No doubt he's talented; no doubt he's a player. But he simply isn't built for the pro game.

To cap it off: he would take up a roster spot that will displace a young player who might actually help us win down the line when we have a team that can actually beat the dregs of the NFL.

The Dolphins are in a good position to deal with the probability he'll end the season on IR. They've got enough young, experienced depth that they can use to fill in, and their current scheme already involves situational use of safeties.

Bob Sanders can play FS in this defense, and if he goes down, it's back to Jones or Clemons, one whom will likely be the starter going in to the season as it stands

Or you can play in situationally... When Yeremiah Bell plays LB in the Nickel package, Sanders can replace him. You limit his snap count, and put him in a situation where he's playing more in space and less filling vs. the run which would mean not as much head on contact with a runningback and being subject to blocks less.

 

I say we sign him. The Packers just showed everyone that the more players you have on Injured Reserve, the better your chances of winning the Super Bowl...

No, he makes Indy's defense that much better. He is their key cog, there is no reason to believe he would have that same impact here because our D would not be built around him.

 

Darren Sproles, London Fletcher, Patrick Cobbs, Dexter McCluster, Vontae Davis, DeSean Jackson. None taller than 5'10''. Wait, Vontae i 5'11'', still not tall. He's probably the second best tackler on this team.

If the price is right, yes.

The talent he has is unquestionable. As mentioned earlier, his biggest problem is that he goes 110% every play and his body has not been able to keep up with his will and mind. However, if, and yes it would be a big if, he could make it through a full season he would only help make our young, up and coming defense better. Hell, if even for only ONE season he stayed healthy he'd teach the younger guys a few things.

I look forward to the day when Miami has the kind of margin for error it would take to be comfortable rolling the dice on Bob Sanders. But until we get a quarterback, it's not a good idea.

All Bob Sanders would do is come into training camp, steal reps from Chris Clemons and Reshad Jones, get the secondary to have chemistry with him, and then two games into the season he's hurt again and you're tossing a Clemons or Jones out there when they would have been better off if they'd just gotten the reps and been given the opportunity to develop their skills and chemistry with the rest of the unit from the start.

It's fine for a team like New England because they can entire Sanders to come on with the allure of competing for a championship (he won't be convinced that he can get one here), and it might induce him to accept a reduced role they give him as a nickel/dime player. They'd do this in order to keep him healthy, and then they could increase his role and playing time according to the importance of the game.

Miami has virtually no margin for error, and so every game is a playoff game. We wouldn't have that luxury, he'd probably be starting for us immediately because every game Clemons starts in his place, our low margin for error makes it all the more likely that a difference between Clemons and Sanders could have swung the game in our favor, and every extra W or L that goes in the column could be the difference between us making the playoffs or not.

And so Miami is forced to gamble on Reshad Jones and Chris Clemons taking a step up in their game, because they're reliable enough to play and stay healthy. Putting Bob Sanders in front of them makes them a lot less likely to take that next step up.

So, I say nay. Unless Jeff Ireland pulls a franchise QB out of his arse.

At this point in his career I'd take Bell over Sanders any day. Bell is an above average safety, any announcer will say it as I'm sure his teammates would too. Could be a bit better in coverage but one of the best today in run coverage. Dude is a animal, always around the ball to make a or assist on the tackle. We have some good young prospects at safety in Clemons and Jones. I say they play Jones a bit more next year on pass downs, he showed lots of positives last year when he got the reps. Sanders is prob one of the better safety's in the NFL, but he doesn't help if he can't ever play in a game being that he is injured all the time

Hes not the same player he was four or five years ago even when hes been healthy. I like the guy but he is strictly a run defending SS at this point as even covering TE's has become hard him. Hes not the same hitter he was either. I dont know...maybe on an incentive based deal but i feel like Reshad Jones/Bell could be a better combo. We need more pressure guys in my opinion; that means linebackers.

 

His build says he's built to play football but his body cannot seem to take the punishment.

The Colts Defense used different coverages by moving Sanders. Sending him into the box, often times you would see them look like they were in Cover 2 when it was in fact a Cover 3. It is very difficult to implement a Cover 2 with one of the Safties stacking the box (The Tampa 2, which Sanders could handle). When he was cheating up in the box, they varied what his assignment was. Usually they did this when the other teams down and distance would indicate a good percentage chance that they would run. It was on Sanders to read the play and know where to go upon the snap. So if they did not run, he would either blitz or pick up a player in the flat...ect. ect.

So yeah, the defense was kind of designed around him. He is a special type of player, who plays with wreckless abandon and he is so instinctive. Too bad his body could not hanlde the punishment because he is that good.

Matt, hes a player that I dont care to break down schematically, its dynamics, its attitude, Its intimidation, its sacrificing your body for the team and the win...its something that the players on this team needs a major dose of..

Remember, this is a team that doesn't come to play at home...so, some drastic measures needs to be taken...They need an attitude adjustment, and I gurantee you 1 thing, if Bob freakin Sanders was on this team, he would be the unquestioned leader of these little boyz...maybe they would learn somethin.

 

Cracks me up how some people who are pulling for J. Russell to get another shot with the Dolphins who looked like crap when he played. Then a guy who actually can play but has been off injured are like, no way in hell. We dont want any talent on the miami dolphins are you kidding me!!!!
