Nah. Bob Stoops would not leave Oklahoma for Florida and he loved Florida. No way he goes to Notre Dame over a great job he already has. Brian Kelly will be the next head coach at Notre Dame. Everyone waiting til after Cincy/Pitt game.

Brian Kelly seems to be the front runner now for ND. Those rumors wont go away unless he signs a extension with Cincy.

ND also offered the Iowa coach.

The Iowa coach? Kirk Ferentz will not be going anywhere. He would be perfect for ND tho. He is one of the 5 best coaches in the country but he wont leave Iowa.

He wont leave Iowa cause of his kids. He was offered a few NFL jobs so my guess is he turns this down too. However thats alot of money and i would not be shocked if he left.

    Its 6.5 a year.

I dunno everyone has a price and to coach the Golden Domers and be apart of that tradition and chance to make a name for yourself for that school any coach would consider it. I think Kelly will go to ND after their Bowl.

Every coach has a price but Ferentz doesn't wanna leave until his daugthers go to college.
If Kelly becomes coach it will be after Pitt. He cant wait til after bowl. He has to recruit kids for his system. He may still coach Cincy in Bowl but it will be as new head coach of ND if he goes to ND

Where'd you hear ND offered Ferentz the job? Ive seen his name briefly mentioned in rumors. I think he's overrated tbh, but I havent seen anything on them offering him a deal. I also doubt it's true cause I think they'll be cautious to not offer a deal to anyone they think will turn them down.

    How?

Well maybe I get the Rich Rod part, but he [Kelly] never said he wouldn't coach ND.

Is Turner Gil going to pull a [insert name of coach you dislike here] if he gets the Kansas job?

Yeah, Kelly told his players in the locker room that he would indeed interview for the ND job. I honestly don't blame him for leaving. It's a top job despite it being very difficult to please others and he's accomplished quite a bit at Cincy.

Yup, I told Skeet that though I dislike ND I hope that Kelly does well. In fact, he may be the type of coach who can get me to regularly watch ND games. I emphasize may however.

This is what I don't understand. It really isn't.

Academic standards are unreasonable at Notre Dame. it is well known that Lou Holtz threatened to quit if they didn;t give certain players a "pass".

It is a lose lose situation.

The reason I refer to it as a top job is because if you want to make a name for yourself, that's one of the jobs where you can do it and do it big time.

    It's too difficult IMO....

You can;t fill a roster with their academic standards.

You can get yourself a Claussen and Tate...but not much else.

Probably but if you have confidence in yourself, you think you can do it and when you have a bit of success like Weis did that one year, you will be hailed as the next great one.

    Totally false.

Notre Dame's recruiting rankings from Rivals (First site I went too).

    2009 21st in country 1 five * 9 four * 5 Three * 3 Two * 18 total commits
    http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/TeamRank.asp?postype=0&sort=0&year=2009
2008 2nd in the country 3 Five * 16 Four * 4 Three Star 23 total (This shows you they can't get kids cause of academics)
    http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/TeamRank.asp?postype=0&sort=0&year=2008
    2007 8th in country 1 Five * 12 four * 4 Three * 1 Two *(Kicker) 18 total
    http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/TeamRank.asp?postype=0&sort=0&year=2007
    2006 8th in the country 2 Five * 10 Four * 15 Three * 1 Two * (Kicker) 28 total.
    http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/commitlist.asp?Year=2006&School=55

    * = Star

They came in the top 10 three times in last 4 years. Thats not a problem with recruiting and getting talent. Thats a problem with devloping talent and coaching. I don't buy that Notre Dame can't win because of Academics. I do think it will hurt them with some recruits but not like they can't get good ones.

First of all..those are not great rankings. They are leaving a ton of recruits on the table.

Remember that they recruit from mostly the same pool as the Big Ten. Their rankings would place them in the middle of the pack. That is not very good recruiting.

Imagine if the U ranked mid pack of the ACC in recruiting....there would be a riot down here.

aside from money (which OU can give him anyway), there's no reason to leave Oklahoma for Notre Dame. none.

I don't see how those aren't good rankings. Notre recruits nationally and not just in one are or pool of players. Fact of the matter is those players listed were more than good enough to produce in college and they did not.

When you recruit nationally...you lose scouting perspective. That is what happened to Miami during the Coker regime.

You usually fill your roster in the immediate area. Ask Ohio State. The OU/Michigan rivalry has become one sided due to one School (Ohio State) cleaing up in Ohio. it used to be 50/50 in that state between the two. OU has chased Michigan out of there. it is reflected on the scoreboard.

Notre Dame CANNOT dominate any region in the country including Indiana due to their high academic standards.

Notre Dame will continue to get decent skill position players..but not much else.

You dont have to dominate a region to get great players. Notre Dame gets good players from all over the country. The numbers I posted show that they can have success. Notre Dame is alittle harder but they can recruit.

To fill out a roster? Of course you do.

But don;t believe me or Jim Tressell and Randy Shannon....

believe your own eyes. Since Notre Dame stopped relaxing their academic standards...that program has gone in the toilet.

Notre Dame just had bad coaching. Recruits were not there problem. My eyes tell me that by those rankings they can recruit.

IMO Notre Dame is capable of consistently getting classes ranked about 8 to 11 with the occasional top 3 class. Unfortunately the expectations there are that the talent is consistently top 3. Whenever your expectations are higher than your talent level you're not in a good situation.
