Moore was the same way in Carolina. I was here. He threw it up to Smitty and let him do the work. Dude is way overrated.

IMO, I'd chalk this signing up to bringing in someone with a lively arm that can get you good looks in camp. CK and others hinted at this as well this morning. Of the quarterbacks not named Tannehill or Moore (when healthy), Quinn's got the best arm. Better than Devlin's. Better than Lobato's. I think if he shows well, then at some point I think he's direct competition for Matt Moore...but not right off the bat.

I mean, the Dolphins are Brady Quinn's 7th team; Cleveland, Denver (as Tim Tebow's backup), Kansas City (did not play), Seattle (cut in favor of Tavaris Jackson), the Jets (released to make room for David Garrard), and St. Louis (as a backup to Kellen Clemens after Sam Bradford tore his ACL). He was with Seattle, New York, and St. Louis for different points all in 2013. None of them brought him back, and there's a reason for it. That said, having a 3rd/emergency quarterback with 20 NFL starts under your belt is a luxury most NFL teams don't have.

Moore may not have Lazor in his corner either. New OC, seeing Moore in practice could be sayin' he's not a great fit.

And/or Moore's injury may be something that makes them think he'll be hurt agin if he plays much this year anyways.

Either or both would be a reason to consider dumping the $5m.

But I'd hope we use that money to improve the team somehow, not just wallpaper Ross' office with $1000 bills.

Supposedly Lazor wants someone that is a consistent and good practice player, Moore is very inconsistent in practice.....

So the other possibility is they've made it clear to Quinn he'll be able to go back to his broadcasting job by the time the season starts.

Pat Devlin being released, via Twiter.

So much for "we're cutting Matt Moore"

Perhaps Devlin plays a part in this. It's been 3 years now. Either he's matured enough to become the back-up or they should cut bait and look for another project, possibly by putting Lobato on the p.s. If he's matured enough to become the back-up, then perhaps you rid yourself of Moore's contract one way or another and let him and Quinn duke it out.

Made the Devlin news into it's own thread.

Do not agree with either of those statements. Based on your rationale lets just keep Lobato and Jensen as backups, and if RT17 gets hurt, just play for the #1 overall pick.
Moore got a handful of snaps against Buffalo and you use that as proof he is mediocre?? 6 attempts. In 2012, when he played almost a complete game as a backup against the Jets, he had a 96 passer rating and we won 30-9. When he started almost a full season in 2011, his passer rating was 87. Yet you think he was mediocre because of 7 snaps toward the end of a loss. Heck if you'd been alive and a fan back in the 70s, I'd guess you thought the season was over when Griese got hurt. 37 yr old, rickety Earl Morrall was all there was to fill in.

I was one who wanted to draft Quinn, and turn those thumbs the other way at Ted Ginn Jr. The proper pick should have been Patrick Willis.

Well with Devlin released we know or presume Quinn was aware of this occurring.

So a QB is smart enough to utilize his best weapons and that makes him overrated. Balderdash.

Eh, Ginn was not a great pick, do think we gave up on him to quickly tbh

He'd never be a #1 wr, as a #3 and Returner he would be just fine

So apparently you'd be more impressed by him if he'd neglected using his best weapons.

The potential to be worse says little about a player's ability to be better.

Also, I didn't say anything negative about Moore, I just didn't think you're criteria made sense.

Totally agree on all counts. I'd have liked to seen what he could have done as a #2 opposite Marshall. Someone with his speed drawing mostly single coverage. It could have been interesting.

Count me as a Matt Moore fan. He played so well down the stretch in 2011 and won me over. I'm happy to have him here as he's a solid backup and he can win us games if need be.

I prefer sexy Rexy over Moore. Moore is wild. But, unless there is a reason to cut $5 mil, and in absence of another better vet, like Rex, might as well keep him.

Yeah, I do not "get it" the dislike of MMoore's game or price tag, he took over a 1-6 team and managed to wring some wins out of it w/a coaching change midseason,

Deal with Quinn imo is if MMoore's health is shaky, do you really want Devlin to be guy if THill goes down?

To me Hickey/Philbin's answer was "no"

Not in love with Quinn signing, think he is just to inaccurate and makes poor decisions, I'd guess the other guys out there knew they more than likely would have little chance to play here so they passed on any offers that may have been made

Good. Just agree with SICK's analysis then. Moore's overrated because he focused on his best weapons most of the time. How awful of him.

Agreed on all counts. Again, how many teams in the NFL have a 3rd QB with 20 starts under their belt?

I'm not that big a football geek to know the depth chart on 31 other teams, would guess not many

I'm thinking maybe the Rams but do not know..lol

Thing I do not like about this signing is Quinn is the sort of Qb who needs a running game to succeed, not the sort of high volume passing game we have been running in that sense he is not a good fit

My analysis agrees with 32 other GMs in this league. Moore is a backup. Nothing more. He helped the panthers get Cam Newton.....they're welcome. He replaced Jake Delhomme and had one good season tossing it up to a prime Steve Smith and has turned that into a career of backup big pay checks. Good for him. But at 5mm a year, this guy can easily be replaced. Period.
