Omar had a solid blog entry tonight regarding Brandon London. And then he offers this up. Dude looks like he's really coming on. Make sure you hit the HQ (High Quality) button after pressing play. **Warning: just put it on mute** [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZsXeRp4Pno"]YouTube - Miami Dolphins WR Brandon London 1on1's[/ame]
I was pretty blah about London but I sure liked what I saw from this video. He looked good and it would be fantastic if he could develop into something more.
I have heard that his teamates and coaches have been impressed with his acrobatic catches in practice . He needs to translate that onto the field during real games with real hitting. If you remember Hagan had some spectacular catches in training camp too .Cam thought he had found a real gem during his first and only training camp but Hagan was never able to put it together in real games .He probably heard too many footsteps. Hopefully London turns our to be one of those hidden gems that this regime has found .
Now why didnt we start this guy? But seriously that catch he made in NY was huge. When he dove and caught that, I knew he was something and this video backs that up. Start this guy next season.
He did. http://www.nfl.com/players/brandonlondon/profile?id=LON011720 3 catches for 30 yards. He was also on special teams and recorded 5 solo tackles and 1 assist.
I liked London last year, i thought he has potential, after watching that i have high expectations for him this year. Im telling you, i like our receivers and tight ends,i just like the group of guys we have, Yeah maybe we do need that one explosive WR but ours have a lot of potential!
I don't know why but I've always got this feeling that you hardly find good receivers in the middle of the draft, like Hagan... to me, you draft WR early (1sr and 2nd rds) or you look for these late (or undrafted) gems..weird
He gets grreat seperation at the line, and uses his hands well to get a little elbow rm for the catch too. Jason Allen looked better than anyone else trying to cover him too. That video gives me even more confidence that even though all the talking heads have us picking either WR or CB at 25 we'll be picking the best player available on the front 7 D. NT and or DE/OLB is my bet, I doubt we pick a WR on day one honestly.
Wow, looks like he has a lot of potential. Be nice to see him get on the field next year and see if he plays like this.
Weird how we've been stocking up on old Giants (London, Torbor, Wilson, Wake). Obviously Ireland and Co. really did there homework on there division to see the potential in players that weren't even starters! As good as Parcells is at evaluating players Ireland may even prove to be better! The guy just gets it done. I've been saying this since we picked up London, he will be Wilford's replacement unless Wilford comes into camp possessed and confident. From what I hear from a friend who's good at evaluating talent and a Jacksonville fan he said that Wilford has Larry Fitzgerald kind of talent (though not as fast) and was perplexed at what happened to him last year. I honestly think we should keep him and let him and Wilford battle it out in TC. Unless the FO find another gem I honestly think we'll be good to go at WR. That's how the Giants did it too, just brought along there own guys who were unheralded.
That doesn't say much for his evaluation skills. He was waaayyy off on Wilford. It's not even close. Wilford was never anything special and his numbers had gone down every year before coming to the Dolphins.
what's the difference between what he wears in that video and what he wears in the game? He had shoulder pads on if I'm not mistaken. The only difference would be socks and pants, and receivers don't generally wear big pads if any on their legs.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned about our WR group is that if one of the guys breaks out, be that Ginn or Wilford or London or whoever, it really opens up so much more for the rest of them and the offense in general...Like everyone, I'm excited about this coming year whether or not we add a WR as many are predicting...
He really really uses his hands well. i hope he can make a jump next season. would really help us out.
Great video. The only tiny knock on him that I noticed was his first step, it is...hesitant. Im not sure what it is, but its in place...Does anybody see what im saying or im just on crack?
I was right - he did catch 4 passes in the playoff game. http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter?game_...ecenter&season=2008&week=POST18&override=true
yeah, his first step is usually flat/in place/a set up for his move. not a direct burst down field. of course i am no coach and perhaps thats good, but it seems he could gain a split second by moving directly down field, kinda picky??? maybe.
They are playing press coverage on every play in the video, so the first step has to be more about getting seperation and going around the DB, not straight speed. If the DB was playing off 5 yds he would be taking those first few steps more in a straight line up field. The first steps in the video were awesome, great movement to get seperation at the line IMO.
Pennington tossing the ball to London, Camarillo and Bess looks like a good season to me. And if one of the wideouts goes out we can get Ginn off the bench. I like our receivers this year.
Did you see the hands? How he always catches with his hands? Even when he has to bring the ball in close to his torso, like in a couple of those that were over his shoulder, he guided it in gently with his hands. That's what separates a great Receiver from most of the dreck in the game today.
I feel the same way. If you have a chance at a true stud WR early then you should take it. But it has to be a guy that you feel can be truly special. He has to show some truly unique characteristics or combination of characteristics to be worth the premium. I think it's b/c there isn't much skill/talent separation between the 3rd rd WR and the UDFA. All those guys have something that prevented them from being stud prospects. And frankly there's a ton of them. Every college is going to start at least two (compared to many positions that have only one starter) and with the growth of the spread offenses it's often 3, 4 or 5 WRs from each program. In this draft I see Nicks and maybe Harvin who are possibly available and worth #25. I love Nicks and see him as a great fit for us, but Harvin's injury history scares me and there's some question as to how his skills will translate to the NFL. I wouldn't mind Britt in the 2nd but I don't see him among my top choices there. Basically if we don't get Nicks early on I don't think I want a WR until the 6th, 7th or UDFA picks.
One thing to pay attention to in the video as you wonder why he doesn't get more action during the season is the timing. Really track how much separation he is able to get, and where on the route he is able to get to, within three seconds of the snap. Quarterback needs to be able to make the decision to throw that ball in less than three seconds, anticipating where London is going to be and how open he is going to be.
Finally got to look at this. Guy does 3 things really well: 1) uses his hands well to get off the line; 2) he can SELL a route to the dbs he went against there; and 3) catches the ball with his hands, not his body. I wonder why he didn't get on the field more than he did.
It was a reference to some players play well in practice (shorts) but don't show up for the game (pads)
I was really hoping someone would have already adressed that post by the time I got to the end of the thread. lol
