Brandon Marshall's scouting report from 06:

Patrick Turner's scouting report:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2009/draft/players/40932.html
Both are 6'4 and 220 pds +, with long arms and allegedly lack blazing speed, with 40's in the mid 4.5 range.
After watching Marshall play a bit, his style is different from Turner's at USC, mainly do to the way Marshall essentially jams the Cb perhaps Turner can learn from Brandon Marshall.
I'm thinking of TO in Dallas on Hard Knocks, he was schooling a young Wr on how to escape jams at the line and how to run proper unrounded off routes.

Marshall:
Turner:
To me, the difference between the two, at least just looking at them, is Marshall is a gym rat, Turner came to the NFL under developed physically. -
Maybe Turner will watch Marshall and try to emulate him. If we see the comparisons Turner has to see them and the coaching staff has to see them. Maybe they can light a fire under Turner and he can also be a red zone threat.

I'm hoping to hear reports this TC that Turner has been hitting the gym hard this past year and has showed up bigger and stronger than last season. Until he takes care of that part, there's only so much for Marshall to work with when trying to help him.

There are a few exceptions, but on the whole there are more USC skills players who have underperformed than defensive ones.jetssuck likes this. -
One can only hope he will.

too late now but I would have loved to have seen Turner grab some game experience at WR last season to at least start the development process. That would have put him farther along at this point imo
the fact he didnt get on the field once in the offense was rather unsettling and shocking to me. dont have the numbers in front of me but I would think it is fairly rare for a rookie WR drafted in the 3rd round not to see the field at all except on a few special teams plays
anyways i hope Marshall can help him out because the coaches seemed to not be in ant hurry to jump start his career. I dont buy into the Turner is a bust talk ive heard and the similarities with Patrick and Brandon are there.
I think Turner still has chance to be something here and Marshall is a good act to follow.
I really hope it happens.PhinsRock likes this. -
It certainly would help KillahP, especially if Brandon Marshall tweaks a hamstring, which can happen with cats that big.
P Turner would be the logical fillin, if of course he can show enough to make it unto the field. -
He could definitely take some pointers from Marshall about getting out of a jam. Marshall literally throws cornerbacks out of his way.
-
Sparano touched on this very issue and said he messed up.
Damage control possibly -
To me, Turner should hit the stiff legged deadlift workout hardcore, that dude needs some core strength...imho... -
It's a nice thought, but I'm guessing that Marshall probably has little interest in coaching other WRs.
I would also bet that same similar scouting report gets written about dozens of WRs every season.
It would be nice though if Marshall's presence could provide some kind of motivation for Pat Turner. -
-
With Turner making some plays in the hitless portion of training camp, this should be a fun thread to bump.
-
Let's see if anything changes since this was posted back in April.
-
Its good to hear about Pat turner, Ive continued to back him during all the bad offseason stuff based on film, and the times ive seen him play live....I think a big problem for some of our guys is that there just wasn't a lot of mentoring going on here, especially during such a huge rebuilding effort....he had noone really to look up to...maybe that will change, now that Brandon is here.

Right now I see Marshall and Hartline as stone locks to be on the roster. Bess is 95% certain, Camarillo is probably 75% certain. If we're only going to carry five receivers, I have to think the 5th receiver would have to have return skills which Turner simply hasn't got. I would like to see Turner improve but at the end of the day I think someone like RGM has a better chance of sticking with our team -
Well, Turner's problem at USC, or so I've read, is he had his bell rung and lost some fearlessness over the middle, the only way to see if he is over that is to see what he does in the preseason.

It's nice to hear he's looking better but I'm still not very optimistic about his chances...Anonymous and adamprez2003 like this. -
Pat who? Seriously. Id forgotten about him. Hartline showed more promise last season and i know a few ppl wasnt too happy with his pick. Hartline has turned out alot better than Turner and he showed he can play. Turner is still on the cut list this pre-season as far as im concerned.
-
I like RGM, but would not cry if Sheets, Davis, whomever makes it as long as Sparano views Returns as an extension of the offense that has 150 plays a yr to make things happen.
As for Turner, many many phinfans have written him off, however if he pleasantly surprises, who can complain?
He's not Miles Austin explosive, as Austin returned kicks for the Cowpokes successfully before stepping in at Wr. -
bulk him up & play him @ TE
-
Patrick Turner can learn from Marshall
however
Patrick Turner has to help Patrick Turner
muscle him up & play him @TE
we need a receiving TE on the team
don't see him winning a position
@ WR w/the Dolphins in 2010
everyone on the roster must contribute -
Eh, no harm in seeing how things turn out, I'd think Turner will learn at least a few things from Brandon Marshall. -
its a conundrum of second round proportions
