Jay Glazer breaks it. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8362550/Redskins-agree-to-terms-on-deal-for-Taylor UPDATE: ESPN reports it's a #2 in 2009, #6 in 2010. And it's done.
damn edit: i wanted him to play for us...the skins won't be winning anything anytime soon...at least we got a 2nd i suppose...
Most of us knew this would happen before the regular season, once players started going down in camp. First camp opens, DE is out for the year, and by the end of the day Taylor is on that team. Didn't think it would happen quite this fast. Out of the AFC!
It'll be interesting watching him play against Zack twice this year. Damn I'm excited, a 2nd rounder is quite a good deal. Now the DC media get to deal with another guy who talks out of both sides of his mouth.
This is a good deal for both parties. I have to admit that I was excited about seeing Taylor suit up for a defensive unit that I'm somewhat optimistic about, but this is what's best for our franchise long-term. In the end, I think this is a deal that benefits both parties.
This is disappointing but we did get a 2nd round pick. I still would have liked to see him play in Miami.
As I said in Club Level, this is a total desperation move IMO. Does this mean they're shifting 250-pound Andre Carter, who had 10.5 sacks at RE last year, to the left side so 240-pound JT can play RE? $7.5 million is a lot to pay a guy to come off the bench. But having either of those guys at LE isn't the best option IMO. You'll get run over on that side. Phillip Daniels is a LE. He plays the strongside and, at 36, has become primarily a run defender. He's gone with an ACL now. The Buzbee kid they lost this afternoon (Achilles) was on the practice squad last year. I don't suppose they were counting on double-digit sacks from him. The Skins pass rush was just as bad as it was in April. They could have made this deal at any point in time.
Good move for us, JT didn't fit as a DE for us, and he really wasn't a OLB or better said, prepared to play OLB this year for us. And #2? And we unload 8 million in Cap Money?
We all knew this was coming but its still a shock to hear. Now drafting two DEs in the draft makes even more sense. I wish Jason well in Washington and although this will hurt somewhat in the short term in the long run the 2nd round draft pick has more potential than does Jason staying in Miami.
well... I just became a serious fan of everybody the skins play.. I hope they tank now and give our pick some bettter value... sorry Jason, good luck, I hope you lose.
Goodbye JT. Thanks for the great memories. Going to be really weird not seeing him and Zach out there.. Im happy with a 2nd rounder for sure. Couldnt we at least get another late pick to though? edit: check that, i see we got a 6th next year too!
Yeah..it is a bit of a shock, now the only "bridges" to the Wanny Era are really Vern Carey and Ricky Williams, everyone else is gone now. I couldn't see "how" JT could not put in the work to play OLB for us, and 240ish is just to light to play DE in our 3-4, so #2 and #6 is a good deal for us. Adios JT, enjoy Washington been fun and thanks for the memories.
WOW this is excellent news! Great value for a 34yo whos only playing one year. Bravo to the front office for getting this done.
don't worry cnc that is one hell of a division, and its no guarantee that they make the playoffs. They could as easily be 6-10 as 10-6.
Either way Aqua, another #2 is how teams rebuild, even if it is the SD range of 55-59, we will be in position to draft a good player. But chances are good the #2 will be #52 or below....
Jason do ya mean that in a good or bad way for the Dolphins ? Do ya think Snyder did good or bad is what I am asking ?
Lets see if he plays one or two years. I also guess this means his October movie deal is history too (if there ever really was one )
Was just visiting a 'Skins forum and most fans seem to be split down the middle about the trade, mainly for spending a 2nd on a guy who may only play for one more season. Others are just excited to have a pro bowl caliber player able to kill Romo.
Skins GM Vinny Cerrato says Taylor will move to left end. Will be interesting to see if he can do it on that side. He'll be facing the RT/TE now. He's a great player. But against the run on that side, I'll be interested in how he fares.
Thanks JT!!! We will see you in Canton just like Zach one of these days. I think the trade is very fair and I wish JT well.
I'm sure he knows about the deal and is ok with it. Winning record. Big market. Snyder has major Hollywood associations. Cerrato said he's confident JT will play more than one year, but we shall see.
Noone was going to give us a #1 for an aging player that is only going to be around for one more year. Maybe if he had kept his mouth shut and not acted like a PITA we could have gotten more, but I'm more than happy with the trade as is.
JT has 8 million reasons to show up in DC, why wouldn't he? They were a playoff team last year, he has stated he needs the 8 million. There you go with the negative waves..
They lost a starting DE, they needed a starting DE, they got one. If they need to, they can stick a DT like Kedric Golston out to LE on run downs. That's not the issue. The issue is that Phillip Daniels provided important responsibilities on pass rush downs and now they've lost that. They needed Jason Taylor before Phillip Daniels went down injured. They REALLY needed him after he went down. This move needed to get done. Miami played their cards beautifully. The first real feather in their cap. Other moves, only time will tell if they pan out. This one was an accomplishment in and of itself because of how many people kept insisting Miami had destroyed their leverage, and that they'd never get what they wanted for JT.
If I'm Snyder I would keep Taylor away from those connections. But Taylor must have OK'd it. According to PFT Cerrato is close friends with Taylor's agent.
I am elated by the trade... Better than having him retire and not getting any compenmsation for him... Thank You JT for the years... it was a pleasure to watch you every Sundays during the Fall... Best of Luck to you...
