full circle huh!
Ross is stuck in the same place, guaranteeing the circle will always complete itself where he is. -
I'm not sure what the point of reaching out to him now would be.
It would be silly for Cowher to negotiate with a team before the offseason. He has no market, and thus no leverage at this point. -

-
This time it's a little different, in that we KNOW Sparano is going to be fired for sure at season's end.
However, here's another angle: Didn't the Dolphins hire Bill Parcells DURING the 2007 season to be Team President? Hmmmm...finyank13, jetssuck, Desides and 1 other person like this. -
Is Ross honestly this moronic?? I cannot even believe that he would have the nerve to go chase another coach with one on staff given what happened with the Harbaugh fiasco. To top it off, Cowher has previously said that he hates it when owners do this with their lameduck headcoaches.
There is now a 5% chance that Cowher will coach the Phins. Who would want to work for this clown? -
Since it was reported on Twitter it must be fact.
How do we know Ross isn't ready to fire Sparano and is reaching out to see if Cowher is ready to move now? What should he do, fire the coach then reach out? Does any other employer in America operate that way?ToddsPhins, fins1, dolfan32323 and 1 other person like this. -
I realize that Ross bashing is now a self-perpetuating phenomenon, but come on. Tony Sparano's continued drawing of a paycheck at the time of Ross' cross-country flight is not why Harbaugh isn't our coach.

Bring in Cowher as consultant until Tony is fired, make Tony and Ireland sweat like we made Cameron feel in 2007

This could be bad.
-
Ill wait until more info is released before I jump the gun... I don't think Ross could be that dumb...
-
I'm sure that everyone will just say it doesn't count but Salguero is saying he's hearing that Ross did not reach out to anyone.. honestly at this point point I wouldn't be surprised if we heard some version of this every week. I suppose we'll know whats going on when the season ends and we finally hire new staff.
-
He should have never done it the first time.
-
Thank GOD we have Rex.

If people really loathe Ross solely for failing to land Jim Harbaugh, then they need to educate themselves about what Michael Lombardi has said. The reason we don't have Harbaugh isn't because Ross bungled, it's because Ireland sabotaged the talks. One could argue that bringing Ireland along was a bungle, but you're not actually claiming that. You're just blaming Ross and giving Ireland a pass. Simultaneously, you fail to give credit to Ross for actually wanting to hire Harbaugh in the first place.
By the way, as much as I wanted Harbaugh, I'm glad we don't have him now. Why? Because we're on path to get Andrew Luck, and given a choice between a good head coach and a very good QB, I take the QB every time. Coaches can be compensated for; bad players cannot.
Like I said, blaming Ross for problems x, y, and z is just a self-perpetuating phenomenon at this point. He's arguably already a better owner than Huizenga was. -
Totally relevant to the discussion.

what in the world is the point of bringing in Cowher now? or even talking to him?
WE WANT THE #1 PICK. Cowher might win us 1-2 games and ruin that.
if this is true, Ross is a bigger moron than I thought. I was willing to give him benefit of the doubt before............... -
-
If he is going to be Parcells part 2 then he can go to hell.
What is with Cowher and all the sensitivity if he backs away. -
-
Cowher is coming for the HC job. What exactly do you expect him to do mid-season with Sparano still here? it makes no sense whatsoever. -
-
''Tony Sparano is still the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
That didn’t stop owner Stephen Ross from meeting with Jim Harbaugh about the job before Harbaugh signed on with the 49ers and it isn’t stopping him from trying to talk to another possible replacement. Albert Breer of the NFL Network is reporting that Ross has reached out to Bill Cowher’s agent about Cowher’s interest in taking over the reins of the team. Earlier this week, Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com reported that Ross had spoken with intermediaries about Cowher and Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reported that Cowher has “planted seeds” that he’d be interested in the Miami job.
Breer’s report comes with a caveat. Cowher has reportedly told his agent and others that he will not speak to a team without a head coaching vacancy. That can be remedied fairly quickly, of course, and this week’s news that Sparano’s house in Miami is up for sale is a sign that he could be an empty nester in more ways than one.
While Cowher wouldn’t take over the Dolphins job in the middle of the season, firing Sparano would give the team to get a head start of discussions with Cowher about their job. That would give them a jump on other teams that might be making coaching changes in the offseason with an eye toward bringing Cowher into their organization. With Cowher believed to be interested in a situation that offers him a chance to win immediately, the Dolphins might not benefit from being first in the hunt but it probably wouldn’t hurt their chances all that much.''...end qoote..
Maybe he and Tony have come to an agreement, and Tony will be let go, thus allowing us to negotiate with Cowher, while someone takes the interim label??
Iam trying to find how he could do this, and still come out looking like it was the right thing to do. -
Sparano is good as gone anyway. I don't see why everyone is freaking out or why Cowher would be offended. Like I said if he is **** him.
Honestly I think everyone is overreacting like always.fin13 and Uncle Rico like this. -
-
I mean I know its not out of the realm for an owner to contact a future coaching prospect while he has a coach in place that is lame duck, happens all the time, but considering how things went down last year, you would think there would be much more of a strategic maneuver here goin on. -
-
-
So the message is that the first team that fires their coach gets first dibs in talking and negotiating with him .Its a Catch 22 situation.Damned if you fire your coach midseason.Damned if you dont fire your coach until the end of the season because other teams who do fire their coach midseason may get a leg up in negotiating for his services.
Imagine if Sparano gets fired midseason and then Cowher decides he wants to wait for the end of the season before making a decision.Another Catch 22.
Also dont you think its ironic that Cowher actually encourages teams who are interested in him to fire their coaches .Bpk likes this. -
If so, I'm more convinced that every professional sports team should hire a Chairman of Common Sense.
