Hah! He really didn't want to be in Madison anymore. Talking to Miami and jumping on the Arkansas job? Barry Alvarez must be as bad as everyone says. Example: Alvarez went to the locker room and apologized to the team for not being properly prepared against Ohio State. Also, Alvarez didn't want to pay assistants as well.

I giggle when I picture Ireland's condescending reply when Brett said he would win a SB with Russell Wilson.

It's not like Wilson was some huge prospect though. Most teams were scared away by his size.

And besides, it's not like we didn't get a good QB ourselves. You take away Seattle's defense and Marshawn Lynch, and Wilson isn't a Super Bowl champion. That's not to say he isn't a good QB, but he doesn't have to do a lot to win.

Yup. I don't remember exactly but Seattle signed or drafted like 5 QB's during that period and even paid Flynn Millions. It's not like they saw Wilson and said, "Oh man, this is our guy!"

Bielema just ran a train on the B1G with RW as his QB. I would have trusted his judgement on RW.

Nah, saw him for yrs at NCState, he had this sort of gift for making accurate throws, with guys in his face and being very short for a QB

See, he did not fit Ireland's metrics..as he plays in SB #2 in a row

Not drafting a guy because he's not 6'2" is dumb. Wilson does have some ginormous hands though. But as far as stats/analytics go take a look at who's on top of this list:

Look, I'm not saying drafting Wilson would have been a bad move. I'm just saying there's a reason he didn't get drafted until the 3rd round. A reason that goes beyond people's dislike for Jeff Ireland.

And again, if we did draft Wilson, do you really think he'd be performing any better than Tannehill has been? We haven't had the talent around the QB like Seattle does.

I tell you one thing that Wilson had that Troy Smith also had; charisma. Tons of it. Guy was at Wisconsin like two minutes (exaggeration) and was voted team captain. I like how Tanny handles himself, but he does not ooze charisma like Wilson does. Most don't.

Lol the whole league felt that way about Wilson. That's why he lasted till the 3rd round and Imo his success in Seattle is highly unlikely to have been duplicated anywhere else, Miami included.

He doesn't have to do much to win. Just be the single-most efficient 1st/2nd year quarterback in the history of the game and the most efficient playoff quarterback in the history of the game. Not much, if you think about it.

You honestly think Wilson would have put up better numbers than Tannehill in Miami over these 3 years? I'm not so sure, though it'd be close. Tannehill has had to do a lot of heavy lifting here (especially last season when we had the worst OL ever and no running game.)

Everyone I talk to about Wilson thinks I hate him. I really don't. I think he's a good QB. I just don't think he's this legend some make him out to be.

    Better numbers than Tannehill?

Yes. Without a shred of a doubt. He'd have been the better player and he'd have put up better numbers.

Would he have won a Super Bowl? Not so sure about that. Probably not.

He certainly would've put up better numbers than RT...unless he was restricted in the same way as RT was (i.e. forced to statue under Sherman, etc). And I'm not saying Sherman was the only reason...RT owns a piece of that too, but playing like he has at Seattle, there's no way his numbers wouldn't have been better.

Russell Wilson had some surprisingly strong backing but it was all very 11th hour. Especially on this board. Seems like about a week before the draft everyone all the sudden adored Wilson.

Personally I had him 4th behind Luck, Weeden and Tannehill. For a while I had RG3 a shade ahead of Wilson and kept telling people they're not as far apart as everyone thinks. By draft day my preference was pretty strongly for Wilson over RG3 though.

Tanny is learning, Wilson landed in a tough situation. Keep in mind the Seachickens play in a division tougher than the AFCE/

THill is not young Alex Smith, he also is not Wilson, think Philbin and Co filled their roles and should be bowing out in oh..3..2..1..

Defense and St both units need to find their collective nutsacks and make things happen when it matters.

there's only one reason why 32. Teams didn't draft him in the first two rounds..it's called 32 teams mis evaluating the player..they didn't get what the entire skillset could do for a franchise, they didn't get the whole read option back then, they finally figured out the recipe for sucess besides just drafting or acquiring some pocket passer.

I'm curious as to why you're so sure about this. Wilson throws 25 times per game, Tannehilll is closer to 35. RT isn't allowed to lean on his defense and run game the way Wilson does, I think their numbers would look very different if they traded situations. What wouldn't change is the overall success of the teams. Seattle would go to the Super Bowl with RT and Miami would sit at home with Wilson. Imo.

Whatta you consider numbers, qbr and ypa?.... I think he's put up fine numbers especially considering 3 of his receivers this year are undrafted, yet here he is..Super Bowl bound..

You think he's made out to be a superhero I think most underrate him..

They had Marshall lynch there and Pete Carroll the year before he arrived, how'd that go for them?

Me and Deej liked Wilson prior to the draft.

Me and AdamPrez both liked Matt Ryan back in the day

I like Tannehill, do think he is flawed, he has 1 more season imo, love his game..he just is a 80% guy when we need a 95% guy

Put it this way, if it were Pennington v Tannehill, at the same age, would take Pennington 10 times out of 10

Just another case of NFL people taking a silly baseline and letting it color the obvious.

It was clear for an armchair QB like myself that Wilson had 'it'. He's the same height as Drew Brees (who they measured twice at the combine to get him to 6-0), same solid build and huge hands like Brees with an even more athleticism and arm strength. And his height? He played behind a mountainous OL at Wisconsin and it wasn't an issue. He didn't have balls batted down. All he did was lead and win, with gaudy stats. You never know until they lace them up, but that guy was a beast coming out.

Is he better than Tannehill? Clearly. And would he have fared better in Miami? Obviously. He was and continues to be the superior player. It is what it is.

It's a Wilson thread, that I didn't start, yet here you are acting like your some Wilson expert when all he does is continue to take a crap all over your bias analysis, it's also pretty funny that in 48 hours the defending Super Bowl champion QB will be playing in his 2nd consecutive...yeah but I'm wrong and I have a bad look, not you..lol...what a joke, just admit when your wrong and stop acting like for some strange reason your in the right, cause it truly is, a real bad look..

Did not really watch him at Wisconsin

At NCSU, saw several times instant pressure, Defenders arms were up, he'd sneak a ball through it all down the field 30 yds (better said, down the field, the ball left his hand)

    Yet, he was an afterthought

And I'm a Tannehill guy, not seeing that from him

Back to Ireland, think of this, Clay/Jenkins our two up and coming guys..do not fit the planetary theory

He's the same player now as he was then, his timer had to get turned on a bit more but no problem, his spacial awareness combined with that perfect Qb athleticism and that live arm is a deadly combination.
