Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, whose new contract has done little to persuade him to shill for the franchise, says that teammate Brian Urlacher will boycott a mandatory minicamp that opens on Friday.
“He’s not going to be there,” Briggs said during a Tuesday appearance on ESPN’s NFL Live.
“I’m pretty sure he’s not going to be there, and it’s sad it got to this point.
“This should be handled behind closed doors, and all they should say is ‘Brian Urlacher has a new deal,’ and we move on with business.”
Urlacher wants a new contract from the Bears.
His current deal was signed several years ago, and the market has changed dramatically since then.
Briggs said he might wear Urlacher’s No. 54 to practice this weekend.
Last year, Urlacher donned Briggs’ No. 55 when Briggs was unsigned.
