I don't think so. We were already a few players under the limit, even before waiving Foster.

 

As I said before Pads, it makes too much sense...They'll kick the tires of Stinchcomb, who may or may not be done at this point in his career because we need another aging veteran presence in our OL, but Maybin ?? Nah, too much sense to pick up a guy who is young enough to still have potential, who was waived primarily because he didn't fit the new scheme of the Jills commensurate with his salary and does happen to fit our scheme. We have a solid group of starters. JT may or may not be the JT from several years ago that everyone seems to think he'll be. Maybin could at least provide some solid backup at a position that we are, as I said, weak in other than the two starters...Nah...too much sense for this regime...besides, he never played in Dallas before...

 

we are weak at dline and olb? depth issue maybe, but not weak. Maybin has 0 sacks in 2 years. May be worth a look but it isnt like we'd be passing on a young all-pro

 

Could he play strong safety?

 

Maybin to this point is the biggest bust of the three. Compared to him, Okoye is like a 1st team All Pro. Nothing really to lose in putting in a claim and seeing what he's got. He'd need to be willing and able to play well on all special teams for us to even consider having room for him. IMO.

 

I'd be more interested in if he can play TE.

 

This, Buddy Nix was thinking the only area he could play is SS....the dude is only 220+....

The guy is a pass-rush specialist with ZERO sacks. He wasn't cut because of the scheme. He was cut because he sucks. A solid backup? Would Vernon Gholston be a solid backup too?

Oh I am not against it, it is bascially a low risk move as long as it is a waiver pick up, low investment made vs finding a player. But I just dont expect much unless this is a wake up call for Maybin

 

I did say we have a solid group of starters, but other than Wake and Misi...that's all I see. JT may or may not be the JT we saw a couple of years ago or even the JT we saw last year that wore down quite a bit... Other than that ?? Maybin represents someone who may be able to resurrect his career, whereas JT is not going to be any better than last season, if for nothing more than his age...It may not be the answer or even the most necessary position to look at, however, I think it may still be an upgrade to what we have, other than the starters.

Personally I find it baffling that they'll (Ireland and Sparano) probably look harder at Stinchcomb, potentially adding another veteran that perhaps has seen his best days than to add someone to the team that at this point upgrades the overall OLB talent some and potentially could be challenging for a position or trade bait at some point later in the season or the next season or could be released just as easily if that potential isn't reached.

This regime, so far this offseason, has consistently looked at today and this season and nothing beyond. It's safer to stick with Fasano and whatever else we have at TE than to upgrade, if nothing more, the backups. It's safer to pick up another Dallas castoff that might have some gas left in the tank (although Columbo certainly didn't show that [he had any gas left] last season). It's safer to stick with Henne (although I'm a supporter of that concept) than to take a chance on drafting a Ryan Mallett who may be an upgrade or may at least upgrade the overall position talent. It's safer to draft Pouncey, who certainly is an upgrade to anything we had a G or C last season, than to risk taking a QB in the first round. It's safer to stay with our primary combination of Marshall, Bess and Hartline than to inject more speed into the group, even tho there is nothing to indicate that Moore or Wallace are ready to challenge for that 'stretch the field' guy we so desperately need.

Their performance this offseason has more to do with keeping their jobs than improving this team this year and beyond...

Exactly, in fact if he doesn't sign with a new team he will be the first defensive end in history to be drafted in the first round and not get a sack.

 

Our other OLBs are Trusnik who is noted as being a strong STs player and Ike Alama-Francis who may have been the starter at Sam over Misi last year if not for coming down with that mystery illness late in preseason. IMO, Ike looked strong and solid in the Atlanta game and with Misi leaving early he got plenty of snaps. I'd not be too anxious to cut either of them for Maybin. He'd have to come in and show he could be a crackerjack STs player on Trusnik's level to have any chance, if left up to me. Guys like Trusnik and Mitchell show a little more focus and dedication to STs and I am glad to see that.

Anyway, Gardenhead is right. The guy can't sack anyone, so why bother? One man's trash isn't always someone else's treasure. Sometimes, trash is still trash.

 

Well, we know now the player signed to coincide with the waiving of Foster, is none other than another WR, John Matthews, most recently with the Jags.
This makes sense because we are overstocked at WR already I guess.

I wonder if Jeff is aware of that other receiving position, called Tight End?

 

Clean..I was just thinking the same thing...what the hell kinda signing is this? Just makes no sense....I thought, well maybe hes a big reciever who could play TE but hes 6-0 200 lbs...not big enough?
