We have been somewhat preoccupied with the receiver and qb battles. I would be interesting in some input regarding some of the other guys at positions on offense and defense. I am going to list some names and would love some input from you guys. My list will not be the whole team, and if I don't list someone feel free to discuss them too. Here is the initial list:
Freeny - linebacker
Shelby - DE
Yeatman - OT
Garner - OL
Mastrud - TE
Russell - S
Wade - CB
Brown - CB
Hughes - CB
Agnew - CB
Carver - S
Alecxih - DT
Aaitui - DT
Lawrence - CB
Slaton - RB
McDonald -OT
Smith - DE
Westerman - DE
Collins - LB
That is my initial short list. I know I have missed some guys and would love feedback on others you have conviction about.

Baker
Garner
Murtha
Mastrud
Wallace
Messam
Steinbach
I think Garner is not a scheme fit, Messam may go to the practice squad as a nice emergency stash who may be able to step in later in the yr in case DTrain is injured again, or if Lane is not effective. -
My thoughts on your list and their chances of making the 53:
Freeny - linebacker ? (means i haven't watched him enough)
Shelby - DE YES
Yeatman - OT YES
Garner - OL depends on health
Mastrud - TE no
Russell - S ?
Wade - CB Yes
Brown - CB ?
Hughes - CB ?
Agnew - CB ?
Carver - S ?
Alecxih - DT yes
Aaitui - DT no
Lawrence - CB ?
Slaton - RB was yes, now no
McDonald -OT maybe
Smith - DE no
Westerman - DE yes
Collins - LB ? -
Baker Yes if McD goes
Garner if healthy yes
Murtha YES
Mastrud no
Wallace no
Messam no
Steinbach no -
We all now know Steinbach is retiring. I appreciate your list Padre. I forgot all about Baker and Murtha. I didn't include Wallace due to him being a wr and wanted to discuss other positions.

Aaitui passed Baker up on the depth chart according to them most recent reports

Jeron Mastrud might end up making it. He's been getting consistently pretty high playing time, and if you're going to keep tight ends who can't block worth a **** then you might have to keep an extra blocking specialist.
Derrick Shelby seems to have risen to a point in a depth chart where he's pretty unlikely not to make it. The same with Westerman.
Will Yeatman I would like to see make it. He's not doing a bad job, I think he's a nice project. I might be disproportionately fond of the idea of a back-up who can play Tackle eligible and do some wacky blocking scheme stuff as a 290lb. TE.
Garner I doubt makes it at this point. He's too up and down to justify it, and he hasn't really lived up to his promise earlier in his career here.
Ryan Baker I think makes it. He's always at the peripheral of the roster, and I think he's the kind of guy coaches love even if he isn't that talented.
Can't imagine Steve Slaton makes it.Bpk likes this. -
Agree about Slaton, think he can play, but head to head he is not better then his competition imo. -
-
Westerman is not on the bubble, he has had a strong camp.
-
-
Murtha is a definite keep in case Martin becomes a door mat over at right tackle.
Messam can't seem to get healthy and with his competition I say he is gone easily. Is Yeatman still trying to learn to play tackle? -

Garner is now a keeper since Steinbach retired. Even prior to him even mentioning retiring garner was outplaying Steinbach. Hell, the third team Oline was outplaying Steinbach. This was most certainly a mercy signing so to speak. Nobody else was even interested in the guy.
Please, no Otah either. the guy is a mash patient. -

The guy who should be a bubble player is Guyton. He blows and if we keep him over Spitler, or Freeny, or Kaddu, I'll be highly pissed off.
