Considering the Hickey connection there and more importantly how dire our offensive line situation is we might as well bring him in on the cheap for depth and even let him compete for a starting job, he's only 25. He's still better than some of our backups.
2012 was really the only season that he saw heavy snaps, but he was one dimensional, did pretty well in run blocking but was bad in pass pro.

Mark Dominik sent a 6th round pick to Chicago for Carimi so they must have had some amount of conviction there.
Only thing is...he didn't really play well. So Hickey may be wary on that basis.
Also...what's the deal with Carl Nicks? The two games the dude played, he did play well according to PFF. Are the Bucs ready to just move on there? If so I would think Hickey would be interested. -
I liked Nicks a lot in his prime, but if suffers a decline in his ability to move well, I don't know the Dolphins should be interested. -

I'll admit it, I would have taken Carimi over Pouncey

Snatch him. Move Mike to guard... profit.

How does it happen like this???
Carimi wasn't just a 1st round draft pick, he was the Outland Trophy winner. He was the best OL in his draft class.
Prototypical size, excellent athleticism, multiple academic awards, I just don't get it.
The scouts were pretty much unanimous on this guy. I don't recall anybody saying he was going to be a bust or even anybody out there saying he should be a mid-round pick.
There just has to be more to this story than............well he just hasn't played well.
The guy completely manhandled great competition all through his college career, including, they say, handling JJ Watt every day in practice.
I think there must something up with this guy, and if it is something he can work through, he might be worth bringing in.
I mean what if the guy developed some kind of personal issue that was affecting his game.
If this guy ever turned it around and started to play according to the expectations most had for him when he was drafted, we could end up with a great offensive lineman. -
I'd take him. We have to start thinking the coaches can up skill players.

Can he play guard? He isn't cutting it at RT.
-
btw Clay is a free agent, if we need a big back why not give him a look? -
In 2012 when he started 14 games and played all 16 for the Bears, PFF rated him the 6th best run blocking OT, and the 3rd worst pass blocker. He started in 3 and played a total of 4 of the games at RG though, and his pass blocking grade was much better. Combined for a +2.4, no sacks or hits allowed and only 3 hurries. His PBE was 98.1 in 116 pass blocking snaps at RG. His PBE at RT was 90.1 in 374 pass blocking snaps.

If it is about who gets 9 mil a year. I would go with the young center and not the old CB. Ya, I'm starting to sour on the impending Grimes/Miko circus already. -
I want them to be successful. The chances of becoming successful are infinitely harder when the HC surrounds himself with "Minions he can control". The desire to be in control, has hurt this team. We are behind simply because of the choices being made. It also put even more strain on talent aquisition when the players have to be premium talent to play. It is virtually impossible to take average talent and make them great because the coaches don't have the experience and knowledge to do so. So good luck with that. We might be able to splurge on a guy here or there but there is that thing called the salary cap.
With that being said it is remarkable to me the progress Tannehill has made so far. If he was on a different team, New England, Denver, SF, Seatlle; different player. Tannehill possibly could be one the best in the league. Hope we don't squander the chance. -
Otherwise, yeah we can't assume that our coaching staff will coach him up after that debacle of a line from last year. -
It's he whole team.
I will just pick one position. QB
We have what could be one of the best raw talent kids to come out of college in many years; Ryan Tannehill. He is stymied because he is on this team. If he was on a Denver, Seattle, SF or even NE he would be a superstar. Teams with solid secondary coaches.
I just hope that what I read is not a set up. Philbin making comments about pushing Tannehill next year sounds to me like a setup to me. Another escape goat. JMO -
What is an escape goat? Is that a goat who gets out of his pen or off his tether and escapes? Perhaps you mean a scapegoat?Da 'Fins likes this. -
I don't have much interest in Gabe Carimi.
I maintain interest in Carl Nicks if the Bucs let him go. -
I liked Carimi coming out. He didn't necessarily seem like an elite talent, but he seemed like a guy who was almost certain to be a 10-12 solid starter. I guess not. I'd be fine with picking him up as there si little to no risk. But if we are really looking for more mobile, zone-blocking OLs, I'm not sure Carimi is a great fit.
