Well when i was looking over the players i could put there i figure allen has just as much talent as anyone i would put there. Plus i really like Jason Allen, Same goes with Channing n Morlon, i know they aren't that good but both are plyares i really like
QB- Marino(duh!) RB- R.Williams FB- L.Csonka WR- M.Clayton WR- C.Chambers TE- K.Byars T- Webb G- L.Little C- D.Stephenson G- J. Madison S- Dick Anderson S- J.Scott K- P.Stoyanovich P- R.Roby KR/PR- Ted Ginn Coach- Dave Wanstadt!!!!!!!!!!!!! -shoot this was supposed to be a list of 53...sorry...
hey guys thats HIS all times.. if you dont agree with it.. post yours.. there is not right or wrong answers here..
i wasn't taking a **** on his list...its a good list for the most part IMO....I was only disagreeing with a few who would not be on my list.... Like I said I'd have Oliver and WIlliams in place of Allen. My list would pretty much lok the same as his.
I think Chambers has more talent but with his surroundings= less productive..... I thought I would get flamed for RW and leaving out Warfield...
i would like to add a multi purpose player the man can do it all Jim Jensen Position: Quarterback College: Boston University Year: 1981 Round: 11 Pick: 291
I'll play: QBs Dan Marino Bob Griese Don Strock RBs Ronnie Brown Ricky Williams Delvin Williams Mercury Morris Benny Malone FBs Larry Csonka OL Richmond Webb Larry Little Dwight Stevenson Bob Kuechenberg Norm Evans Ed Newman Roy Foster Jim Langer Keith Sims TEs Keith Jackson Jim Mandich Randy McMichael WRs Paul Warfield Mark Clayton Mark Duper Nat Moore Irving Fryar OJ McDuffie Chris Chambers 3rd Down Specialist Jim Jensen K Pete Stoyanovich P Reggie Roby DL Jason Taylor Bob Bauhhower Tim Bowens Bill Stanfill Doug Betters Vern Den Herder Manny Fernandez LBs AJ Duhe Zach Thomas Brian Cox Nick Buoniconti John Offerdahl Larry Gordon Bob Matheson DBs Troy Vincent Jake Scott Dick Anderson Patrick Surtain Sam Madison Tim Foley Don McNeal Louis Oliver ____________________________________________ Was this the right answer?
You did!!! But to make the Top-53 list... I just don't see it. The next couple of guys I would have added would have been Darryl Gardener and maybe Tony Nathan as another 3rd down guy. And there's others I think I'd have before Oronde on there. "But, my, what big hands you have, Oronde." "The better to take your puny head in them and smash it like I would an egg, Finrunner!!!"
I can only dream of Chambers with Dan Marino. I mean, 900 yards with Fiedler, 1100 with Gus Frerotte. With Dan tossing the ball, OMG!
yeah he'd probably have twice as many drops!! Sorry, couldn't resist! Just thinking about what COULD HAVE BEEN with Chambers and how we gave him away so cheaply still irritates me.
Chambers was my favorite Dolphin before being traded, but the trade, especially now, makes sense. He could have helped with Beck's development next year, providing a veteran experienced WR, but we need the #2, which was pretty decent value, and he gets to go to a SD squad who look like perennial playoff contenders, he fits in. It's win all the way around except for us Dolphins/Chambers fans who wished he was still here. I will cheer him on in SD until they play us, and wait anxiously because I know Ginn will absolutely become a 1K receiver! Oh gawd I've derailed the thread, I'll stop now.
Some modifications to the list, and some real questions about the CB area... But, good basic list to start with...
Note: I'm not looking at any other lists until I do my own. But, I think, most of the positions are relatively easy, except for a few spots: Offense WR - Paul Warfield - He has to be #1. One of greatest of all-time (top 5) and lone HOF WR. WR - Mark Clayton; #3 WR - Duper; #4 - Nat Moore TE - Jim Mandich LT - Richmond Webb LG - Larry Little - HOF C - Dwight Stephenson / Jim Langer (two HOF's - had to put Langer out there) RG - Bob Keuchenberg - should be HOF RT - Norm Evans - perennial starter - 1965 to 75 QB - Dan Marino (with props to Bob) FB - Larry Csonka RB - Ricky Williams with his head on straight. Otherwise, Jim Kiick. Williams is the greatest RB in Dolphin history from a talent and productivity in his prime. This was difficult. If we're talking about talent that did show itself on the field, even if briefly, RW is the man. Ronnie could move in here. Otherwise, in terms of contribution - Kiick and Morris were great, but I give the edge to Kiick - how can you not? He's part of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid! K - Yepremian - in spite of the SB blunder. He was a clutch kicker and made a big one in arguably the greatest playoff game of all time - Dolphins 27, Chiefs 24 - OT, Christmas Day, 1971. Everyone looks at the SD-Miami game; but I thought this game was an all-time classic. Still one of the greatest of all-time. And it was on Christmas Day! How can you beat that! Defense (going with 4 down linemen and 4 LB's): DE - Bill Stanfill (tough one - over Betters and others; but, he was under-rated and productive - He was NFL All-Pro 4 straight years - 71, 72, 73, 74; Pro Bowl in those years, plus 1969). NT - Manny Fernandez - anchor on the Great No Name Defense. DT - Tim Bowens (slight edge over Baumhower) DE - Jason Taylor - hard to argue with 'Fins all-time sack leader, 6 PB's, 5 All-Pro teams). OLB - Kim Bokamper - later moved to DE but first 4-5 seasons here. Lone "Killer B" on team. ILB - Nick Buoniconti ILB - Zach Thomas (slightly over A.J. Duhe - I think Duhe was slightly better in head-to-head best seasons, but Zach outlasts him). Shout out to John Offerdahl. OLB - Bob Matheson - OLB is arguably the Dolphins weakest all-time position. Larry Gordon had great potential before tragically dying; Kolen and Swift were starters over Matheson, but the "53 Defense" is named after Matheson's #53. Now, it's the 3-4. CB - Sam Madison - 5 time Pro Bowler; 4 time All-Pro CB - Patrick Surtain - 3 time PB - more than any other Dolphin CB other than Madison & Vincent (I like him slightly ahead of Troy). S - Dick Anderson S - Jake Scott - how can any one not put Anderson and Scott? These two roamed the D-backfield like few safety tandems in NFL history. Both made spectacular plays in big games. Arguably, the biggest playmakers in Dolphin defensive history. P - Reggie Roby - Booming punts like no other. Not real consistent, but still pretty awesome (kudos to Larry Seiple for his great fake punt against the Steelers in 72-73 playoffs, propelling Dolphins to SB against Washington).
I dont think I would deviate from this much if at all. Maybe Garo ahead of Stayo....maybe... Very well done..... PS: Absolutely LOVE that you have Crash in there..
Good list. You need to tweak some positions. Langer was a center. Little was a guard. Buoniconti was a MLB. Matheson was OLB in the "53" defense. I forgot about Bryan Cox - good choice. Duhe was also MLB, but he was so, good, He'd start at OLB, so that's a good idea putting him there. But, a couple of things for you younguns ... as noted in my list: Norm Evans, RT, was 1st team All-Pro 4 straight years (71-74); Paul Warfield has to be #1 - only Dolphin WR in HOF; And, truly was one of the all-time greats (top 3-4, imo). Jake Scott was all-world at S in the early 70's.
Da 'Fins - Quality list and love the commentary. Can't argue about much. On mine, I have Duhe and don't have Bokamper and Stoyanovich ahead of Yepremian - but that's quibbling. We're not far off. But you get 53! Where's the depth? I did note you had back-up WRs and mentioned other players but even then, I'm only counting in the 30s. Anyway, while there's no right or wrong answers, as Mindwarp said, maybe some lists are more right than others. And this list is a good starting point, imo. Great job!
After looking at Da 'Fins list, if I decided to go back, I might take Larry Gordon off and add Kim Bokamper. And the Garo/Stoyo is a coin toss for me. Thanks!
How some of you guys could leave out Troy Vincent on your list is beyond me. If we could have players at any point of their respected careers alot of the choices for me would be incredibly easy. Thurman Thomas, Irving Fryar, Kieth Jackson, Tony Martin...
