The Dolphins have hired a longtime NFL assistant to fill the linebackers coach job left open when the team promoted Matt Burke to replace Vance Joseph as the team’s defensive coordinator.

The team announced that Frank Bush has been hired as the new position coach. Bush spent the last four seasons as the linebackers coach for the Rams and has been an NFL assistant since the Oilers named him to the same position in 1992. He returned to Houston after the Oilers left and spent time as the Texans’ defensive coordinator during a career that’s also featured stops with the Broncos, Cardinals and Titans.

Bush has also been named the assistant head coach, which necessitated a change in titles for Darren Rizzi. The special teams coordinator had the assistant head coach title and will now be the associate head coach under Adam Gase.

The Dolphins announced that Chris Kuper has been promoted from offensive quality control coach to assistant offensive line coach. Kuper made 79 starts at guard for the Broncos between 2006-13 and joined the Miami staff last year.

I'm told he brings the best out of his players. He also loves to develop young players.

Among the players Bush has personally coached are James Laurinaitis, Alec Ogletree, Akeem Ayers, Brian Cushing, Karlos Dansby and Bill Romanowski.

    Just to name a few.

Chris Forrester is there. Kuper is there to assist him.

I'm surprised that Miami didn't have a contingency plan in place. It seems Joseph took the job with only intentions for a year, and Gase knew this too.

Was half expecting Rizzi's tittle to change to Assistant to the Head Coach.

I thought I heard a rumor Washburn was retiring, but I haven't heard a peep about it since.

Burke was the contingency plan for joseph. There was no need for a contingency plan at lb coach.

In fact, Chris Kuper might be the contingency plan for next year to replace Chris Foerster. Foerster was blocked from interviewing for the OC position for the LA Rams a week or two ago.

I think it's a great hire. I've read things about this guy through the years and it seems he's very football smart, aggressive, and players love him. Hopefully he can give good insight on drafting a LB and coach up that unit in a hurry!

That's a good point. Don't be surprised if that happens next year. I like that Gase is promoting from within.

The fact that he coached some of the top LB's the last 20+ years impressed me. Some of them had great seasons and careers under him. Like I said before, he likes to develop players and bring the best out of them.

We just have to go out and buy some for him to coach up.
