I do think Maxwell will play better in a different scheme, I just hope we are playing in that scheme, lol.

There are several things I'm optimistic about as I wait.

(1) I can't wait to see how Gase works with and improves Ryan Tannehill.

(2) I really think Devante Parker is being forgotten about with all this talk about losing Matthews. Parker was a star towards the end of the year.

(3) Landry is a beast.

(4) Ajayi had some really exciting moments last year. I would love to see him get more carries.

(5) Miko is gone!

(6) The OT position looks pretty solid. Finally a little depth!

(7) Cameron should definitely come back to life inside Gase's offense. I'm excited about that.

(8) There's still Ndamukong Suh and Reshad Jones!

(9) Miami's in a position to steal a great CB or a standout DE at #13.

(10) Mario Williams and Cam Wake...it could be worse guys! ;)

The Eagles adjusted to Maxwell losing eight of his 16 routes in Week 1 and used him more in zone the rest of the season. It immediately paid off, as he lost just 14 routes in the next five weeks combined. His effectiveness was on par with what quality top cornerbacks produce because he was simply put in the position to better succeed.

This will fit Miami’s scheme under defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who coached the Cincinnati Bengals secondary the last two years. According to Pro Football Focus analyst Steve Palazzolo, the Bengals played the second-highest percentage of Cover 2 last season. Cover 2 will allow Maxwell to utilize his press ability without asking him to cover in-breaking routes.

Press and zone are two different things......... it sounds like the Dolphins will not be using the scheme that helped him improve.

The reason I made that comment was because we don't know what VJs defense is, you can't assume that Cincy's D will be our D because VJ wasn't the DC there, and recent comments by Gase seem to suggest that we'll be running a press D.

I asked Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll what worked with new Dolphins CB Byron Maxwell. Carroll said he's best pressing at the line of scrimmage and should be used that way.

 

"I think he’s a terrific football player, and he played great football for us," Carroll said Wednesday at the NFL owners meetings. "In the formula we asked him to play, he was very effective. I don’t know what happened in Philly last year. But the fact that he went to Miami, I think he’s thrilled about it.

"He’s an on the line of scrimmage guy. I think he needs to be played that way, supported that way and coached that way. That’s how he was raised, and he’s got the right mentality for it. He’s got a very aggressive nature. He’s a physical player. He’s long and has the kind of length that allows him to play with his hands on guys. I think he needs to be supported that way. When you coach him that way, he can be as good as anybody in the game."

that is what I thought about sean smith when he was here, he needed to press and we had him in zone a whole lot.
