Cain Velasquez by TKO at 4:12 of the first round. And now the new undisputed heavyweight champion.
Talk about a complete performance. Cain answered every question we had about he and Brock.
He withstood the early surge from Brock, taking some punches and (flying) knees. Surviving being pinned against the cage, stuffed takedown attempts and popped right back up from two successful takedowns, one of which put him on his back.
A D-1 wrestler himself, he took down the former D-1 heavyweight champion multiple times. Unlike Shane Carwin, he hurt Lesnar badly with his strikes, showing off his tremendous power. He was patient and precise, not over-committing once he had the champ in trouble. And he finished him with ease.
That 40 pound disadvantage on fight night? Not a problem for Velasquez.
As for Lesnar, he was a bloody mess. When Herb Dean pulled Cain off, Lesnar was covered in it, blood all in his eyes, a massing slice to his cheek and all puffed up.
Brock was once again ultra classy afterwards, this time in defeat. He'll be back, no question. But Cain is proving he has the style and skill set to deal with just about anyone. He's become very well-rounded. He's got the best cardio in the division. And he's an ox.
Once Brock is on top of you, that's it. Not this guy. He just tore apart the biggest, strongest, most athletic heavyweight there's ever been.
Jay Glazer has been calling Cain a young Fedor. Gotta say he looks every bit of it. He just gets better every fight. Will be interesting to see if he develops a submission game like Fedor. Then you can just forget about it.
Next up is Junior dos Santos. That one should be good too. Two very similar fighters, both in style and size.

I think Brock got caught. Not taking anything away from Cain, but I still think people forget Brock is a 2 yr pro. Not really sure why he would try to strike with Cain, but live and learn. Kudos to the dude for taking down the baddest man alive.

Just for you Eric. ;)

One thing I really took from this was that, despite the size difference, Cain's wrestling defeated Brock's wrestling. Brock got him on the ground twice, the second time Cain was on his back. And Brock couldn't keep him down. That was huge because Brock could no longer control where the fight took place.
When Cain took Brock down, he did damage from the back. I think that started it. Then after the stumble, it was academic.
Impressive how quickly Cain's striking has come along. -
Tell you what though, I wish he could have gotten into MMA. -
shane mcmahon was at ufc offices a few months back, interesting. veryyyyy interesting. -

I read a little something this morning about Brock leaving WWE when he was supposed to do a tour of 'losing' to the Undertaker or something. I don't follow WWE, but that might be one thing.gunn34 likes this. -
I didn't think there was any bad blood between the two though but the Undertaker is known to hold grudges with guys for stupid stuff like not dressing appropriately when traveling or when he thinks guys are disrespecting the business. Maybe Taker is mad Brock walked away after the WWE put tons of million behind him.Muck likes this. -
Here is Dana on all that.

Ok apparently the Undertaker and Brock have an issue dating back to Lesnar leaving the WWE to try out for the NFL and Lesnar refusing to lose certain matches to put people over.

Last fight? He turtle upped and let Carwin, a guy who has never been past a 4 minute mark of first round (or something ridiculous like that) punch himself in to a submission. Call me a hater, call me whatever you want, but after the Carwing fight it became clear that Brock is nowhere as good as he has been hyped up to be? Running, turtling up? As a "baddest man on the planet?" please.gunn34, RickyBobby and slickj101 like this. -

Good night of fights overall. Matt Hamill and Diego Sanchez were really impressive and it was good to see Diego return to his 155lb form.
Tito was kind of disappointing and it was surprising to see him dominated in the wrestling department like that.
I thought Shields fought smartly by fighting to his strength on the ground and almost got caught a few times by Kampmann. If the fight had stayed on the feet a little more, I think Kampmann could have knocked him out.
Cain really impressed me with his pinpoint strikes and quickness on the feet. He has a really stable base and it will be hard for any heavyweight to control him on the ground, seeing that Brock could not.
I think the UFC has some good options now for future heavyweight fights and the division should get real interesting. Now the next number one contender needs to be found since Dos Santos has his shot. Some good matches can be made between Brock, Carwin, Mir, and Big Country. I like the younger fighters too like Mitrione, Schaub, Madsen, Struve, and Barry. -
Also, I read few reports that Brock submitted verbally, started yelling stop and stuff. Any truth?

Daniel Cormier said Brock was "basic wrestler" from the Mark Coleman days of MMA. That's a pretty good comparison. Coleman was once upon a time the "baddest man on the planet".

Point is, nobody stays on top for too long. They all get beat eventually. Guys like Anderson Silva, those kind of reigns are not the norm. Fedor's reign was as rare as we'll ever see, though staying out of the UFC likely extended it.
Look at Machida. It looked like he was gonna own that division for quite awhile. Took all of one fight before he lost (well, won a bad decision) and knocked out cold the next.
We'll see if Cain can be one of those guys to reign for awhile. Dos Santos will be a stiff test.Big E likes this. -
Good point with ufc tournaments. Again, ever wondered why he was Mark "The Hammer" Coleman? He would headbutt the crap out of his opponents in the stone age of MMA rules. Coleman refused to adapt by learning even most basic submission, while guys like Tanner (rip) learned them from VHS tapes. Coleman is a legioner and a granddaddy of ground and pound, but he failed to adapt, which is why he never really reigned as greatest ever (that and being in the same weight class as prime Fedor)
