Noticed that Drew Rosenhaus commented on Cam Wake's contract situation, mainly saying "he is being paid back up money".
Which, I tend to agree with, he should garner at least starter money and it would probably be in his interest to sit out until at least he received starter money.
That said, how about a trade between the titans and dolphins?
We'd send:
Wake, and a #2 pick
For
Chris Johnson
Vince Young
PTBNL or late rd pick
Now to me, Wake is worth a #1 and a #3, franchise tag picks, but the draft is such a crap shoot a starting Rb who is a top 3 back, a Qb, and say Tim Shaw a ST daemon, would be a decent enough trade.
Or
The Eagles:
Wake
for
Kolb
#1 pick that would figure to be a later #1 from #25-#32, which to me is more or less early second rd value.

That first trade won't happen and trading him for Kolb(A.J Feeley 2.0 IMO) won't be a good idea at all.
-
CJ is worth 2 #1's and probably a starter. -
Bring on Kolb, if he fails, we still have the #1 pick, bring in Young and if he fails we'd have CJ for 4 or 5 yrs and fill a immediate need on ST.
Such a trade would also mean Misi would move to the WOLB, and the Sam job would be wide open. -
Trading Wake would make that "great" defense, a very bad defense. It's predicated on creating pressure and he's really a biggest weapon. He'd cripple that unit. Chris Johnson wouldn't make our offense great at all.
I just don't see great value in running backs. They are a dime a dozen IMO. Would it be great to have one of those types? Ya. You can find those in the draft in any round.Xeticus likes this. -

I see pass rusher as a very valuable position. I see rb as a fungible position. Yes, CJ is a great player but the odds of any back having a long career are slim so it doesn't make sense to trade valuable pieces for them except on Madden. It's just a position that takes too many hits and gets injured too often. I also think CJ is a bit of a malcontent. I think he is much more likely to hold out than Wake. Young will be released anyways so he's not worth trading for. So I see that trade as a more valuable position and less drama for a less valuable position and more drama.
I wouldn't trade a 3rd for Kolb so theres no way I would give up an elite pass rusher for him.
I don't see any scenario where a team that is worried about their pass rush gives up their only pass rusher unless it's for Brees or Rivers or for a QB on that level.MrClean and Ohio Fanatic like this. -

I wouldn't be in favor of trading Wake for anything other than an obscenely one-sided deal or an elite QB. Elite pass rushers don't grow on trees. And he's the only one we've got.
Running backs -- even 2,000 yarders -- aren't as valuable or as good an investment.

I find it strange that the #1 RB in all of football is not worth Cam Wake, who is not worth a new contract now.

You have a better chance of finding the next Chris Johnson than you do the next Cam Wake IMO. -

There's about 10 different guys who could all take that title this year and very few people would be surprised.
CJ isn't as dominant of a player as Wake, imo. He's not a moron either, which is nice. -
As for the trade proposal, iirc CK mentioned he thought Wake was worth a #1 pick, so to me a deal for CJ would be in our favor.
Of course I do not over value draft picks, I think a great GM is more important then high draft choices. -
I have a stinky feeling Young might end up here anyway so no thanky
Not to mention that no buisiness can go on in the NFL at this time so Wake may be the first priority when it is...likes this. -
It would be very stupid to let wake go. Pay him what he deserves.
-
well I am going to say this. wake was a stud or at least I thought i heard great things. if this isnt true then my head is hurting we need to keep our defensive line intact because i will go watter wiggle on mr ross and company if we draft one olineman and cut two defensive linemen and that has been our issue with the oline.
So here is my suggestion.
keep Ronnie ,Thomas and Williams and cut the other guys or package them in a big time trade but the problem is there isnt any action so this is all pointless in this juncture in time.
I want one more tightend and vince young and a nother defensive tackle and i am satisfied. -

It doesn't make much sense to trade Wake when we really don't have anyone to step in and give us anything close to what he brings to the table. His contract situation shouldn't be a big issue, he has had one big year he can't expect us to pay him like someone that has been doing it for years. He was in the CFL a few years ago and we took a chance on him, gave him a shot and some money so he shouldn't be looking to bend us over. He'll get paid if he has another big year. If we packaged Wake in on some mega deal to get us our franchise Qb that would be about the only deal I'd get on board with and I don't see anyone out there that is available thats worth it.

A guy who gets 14 sacks in his first season as a starter is absolutely worth a new deal.

SMH. Especially that second trade.

As I recall, the Pats did not make a blockbuster trade for Dillon, just a 2nd round pick. The Pats won the Super Bowl the year before Dillon, then again the first year with Dillon. This was an example of retooling with a quality veteran at a reasonable price. Which is not what is being suggested in the OP. The Pats got one great season out of Dillon, then he fell back to earth the next two. His first season equaled his 2nd and 3rd seasons in NE combined. Still a 2nd rounder is a great deal for a vital piece to a Super Bowl winner. -
Put it this way.....
Do you think the Steelers would trade LaMarr Woodley, Lawrence Timmons or James Harrison for Chris Johnson?
An elite RB hasn't gotten them to two of the last three Super Bowls. Rather, an elite QB and an elite defense built on pressure and physicality. -

NE has a history of pulling off good deals, us, not so much. -
In 1999, the Rams traded a 2nd and a 5th to the Colts to get Marshall Faulk. That trade was a steal for the Rams. Wouldn't have won a Super Bowl without Faulk.
