I told you all he was going to dominate the NFL. Yes, its the Cardinals, and its only one game, but damn, he looks like a man among boys, just like he did in college. Eat crow, the doubters who said he wasn't smart enough to play in the NFL. Eat crow, to those who said he'd need 2 years to make an impact.
If he sucks the next game, can the doubters come out and say you were wrong and tell you to eat crow? I think Newton is going to be a good NFL QB, but it's only one game. It's way too early for this.
I was very critical of the player, I'am on the record for not wanting to move up to get him, but if he dropped, I'd take him..I don't like him personally, he just rubs me the wrong way, I do think he is a poser, but if he continues this kind of play, I will speak up.
Yes, because after one good game against a mediocre defense we should be handing him a yellow blazer. Incidentally, his team LOST the game. It's one game, teams will adjust.
You don't get it. When you throw for 422 yards in your rookie debut, it proves you can play in the NFL. All these doubters were so sure that he didn't have the smarts to make it in the NFL have been proven wrong. He obviously won't dominate every game, but he belongs in the NFL. He's not some dumb kid who needs 2 years before he can make a difference on the field. Cam Newton is the real deal and will be a damn good QB in this league. It is not too soon to make that statement.
I do think he played a really good game, however I do not think he proved he is a NFL quarterback. Takes more than one game to prove that. He put 1 in the PLUS column. I think this game showed that the Panthers can be the worst team in the NFL and the Newton experiment can be a success. That is one terrible team.
He was good. Very good. Damn good in fact. That was the best game any rookie QB has ever had in Week 1. You look at the last drive. You're talking about a rookie in his first game, being asked to take his team 83 yards with just over two minutes left in the face of every-down blitzing. He took them 81. I don't care how good or bad the Cardinal defense is. That's a rookie under a big microscope facing an NFL defense with a team that was 2-14 last year. Kid looked like he belonged on the field today. Game wasn't too big for him. He was cool, calm and relaxed all afternoon. He was accurate and showed his big arm. He made all kinds of nice throws. He successfully threw off his back foot when he needed to. And he did it without a running game. Panther backs ran 19 times for 56 yards. More than anything, it was clear that he makes his teammates better. Steve Smith looks like he's got a new lease on life out there.
Very impressed with Cam but along with the others, don't get too excited after one game against a bad defense. Carolina has Green Bay coming to town next week and think the rookie reality check sets in then. I do think he's a NFL QB but he will take his lumps. I don't think Carolina is the worst team, even if they aren't real good, curious to hear how Beason is though.
For those who keep saying "it's only one game" & "it was only the Cards," you just don't get it. Yeah, Cam could lay an egg next week but wouldn't that be expected of a rookie QB? But the facts remain NFL coaches (ARI) had all offseason & NFL players had all training camp to plan to stop this "one dimensional," "bust waiting to happen" college qb. I didn't see the entire game but from what I witnessed and heard/read the Cards blitzed him numerous times, yet he still put up 400 plus. He read the field, looked off safeties, pump-faked and had poise in the pocket. Oh yeah, he also wants certain draft "gurus" to tell him how his *** taste.
No, he could lay an egg for the next 15 game and then be cut after Carolina drafts Andrew Luck. There have been players who have had one good game only to end up washing out in the NFL. Saying it is only one game is like saying, "I know the paint is pretty, but I am going to need more information before I buy the house."
Only one other rookie has and he still may wash out. If you look like at the top first 3 games by a quarterback in NFL history Billy Volek is either at the top or near the top of the list. I am not saying it will happen, however it is still a possibility.
Volek is a different case though. He was 27 years old and in his 4th year when he got his first start. I don't expect Newton to throw for 400 yards every week. But we now know he has it in him. Coming from the kind of system he played in at Auburn, I think this was a big step.
Your quote reads more like wishful thinking on your part. This is the main reason why several phins message boards splinter between one side using history as an indicator and the other side simply hoping their expectations of the team are met by chance. Now the onus is definitely on Cam to adjust to how different teams will play him from here on out. Like for example, if I'm the next d coord i would play zone with a qb spy until he he proves he could beat it.
The two big knocks on Cam was: 1. He's not smart enough to read defenses and run a NFL offense; and 2. He's a run-first QB, which will hinder success. Yesterday, he: 1. Threw for 422 yards. You don't do this without having the smarts to make the right reads; and 2. Dropped back to pass 45 times and ran 7 times.
It is not wishful thinking, I want Newton to exceed. He is an exciting type player and I like it when exciting players work out. You are trying to make it personal, like I have a vested interest in Cam Newton failing. You are acting like saying, "It is only one game," is unreasonable.
I agree, however saying it is only one game doesn't mean that Cam Newton is a flying piece of crap who I hope fails. All cases are different. Rick Mirer had the best season for a rookie and still washed out. It took an entire season for teams to realize his fatal flaw. Cam could have a fatal flaw, he could not. It is not unreasonable, crazy or wishful thinking because I dislike Newton to say, "it is only one game, I need more proof to say that Cam Newton will be a success in the NFL."
I think it is reasonable to say "its only one game". I think it is also reasonable to make my argument as well: that yesterday proves that Cam has the intelligence to make it in the NFL. That the doubters who said he's need 2 years of learning to get up to NFL speed were wrong.
Cam Newton dominated again. This time it was against the Super Bowl Champs. Gotta cut down on the INTs, of course. However, he still cannot be stopped. Eat crow doubters!!!!
485 yards and 2 TDs is dominant, even with 3 INTs. Look at some of Danny's games versus the jets in the 80s (I AM NOT COMPARING THE TWO, I'M JUST SAYING....). Cam and the Panthers play the Jaguars next week. If you go by points allowed, they're the 15th best defense. By yards allowed, they're the fifth best defense. I expect another big game for Cam.
Bumpity-bump. 3 Games (1-2) Passing: 59.8 completion %, 4TDs, 4INTs, 1,012 yards, 85.1 Rating Rushing: 25 attempts, 98 yards, 3.9 yards/carry, 2 TDs, 0 fumbles
Yeah, last week's game conditions were insane(for any qb). It was a monsoon. He faces a big test against that CHI defense.
Very good points Mr. Humidity. Last week's performance is that much more impressive due to the "monsoon" (everywhere I saw reports of this game, it was referred to as such). The Bears D is tough. Will be interesting to see how he fares. The NFL is more fun now that Cam's in it. Can't argue with that!
Cam Newton lead his Panthers up against the vaunted Bears Defense. On the road. They lost 29-34. Cam's passing stats: 27/46, 374 yards, 1TD, 1INT Cam's rushing stats: 8 rushes for 35 yards, 2TDS So, Cam basically hung over 400 yards and 3 TDs against the great Bear defense. We now have a 4 game body of work. 3rd in Passing Yards (1,386!) 17th in TDS 16th in QB Rating (84.5) The guy is the real deal. Anyone who said he wasn't smart enough to play in the NFL isn't smart enough to evaluate QBs.
Cam's been exciting thats for sure. I wanted him for our team but it was obvious we wouldn't have a shot at him. He's been maybe the most impressive rookie Qb ever, the naysayers have kind of disappeared already.
Yup. He's played 5 games and its clear that he's for real. And yet no one has showed up to eat the crow!
Only thing that worries me is he's taking a lot of hits. He took a couple of really hard shots on designed runs near the goal line yesterday. I'd cringe if I were a Panthers fan.
Gotta do what you gotta do to score TDs. In five games, he's got 7 in the air and 5 more on the ground. Oh, and he's also got a QB rating of 84.3 The dude is legit!
True, I just don't think getting him killed like the shot he took in the 4th quarter is sustainable. See: Mike Vick. If I were a Panthers fan and never saw that QB draw from him again I'd be happy.
Mike Vick is a terrible analogy. Mike Vick is a speedy little dude. Cam Newton, for the most part, stands strong in the pocket. He's like a Ben Roethlisberger, plus scrambling ability, minus the rape.
Bump. After 7 games, this "run-first" QB who "can't read NFL defenses" is 4th in the NFL with 2,103 yards and a 60% completion percentage. He's also got 7 rushing TDs.
