Do you think we should keep him if we got some top notch coordinators to call plays?

I'm not sure I want him around after he punted the game away last Sunday. I just dream one day we can have a top notch head coach again. We'll see how the last six games go. I'm not a big fan of having a coach that needs to be carried by his coordinators. Campbell is a motivator and I think a good leader of men but he's not the only guy in the world who can do those things.

i like campbell a lot but i think its time to clean house top to bottom, if not we will have another decade and a half of failure.

You know Ross, he will hit the reset button, but not push it down ALL THE WAY, like some kind of half assed reset.Finster likes this. -
Let's just see how this plays out then fire him.

I'd keep him if he's okay with returning to TE coach (which I doubt), once Sean Payton (hopefully) accepts the job.

I like some of the stuff he's done. He did lose me on that punt though. Not saying Miami would have won the game, but geez, you have to try. 6 games left. Who knows what happens. This team either looks great or mediocre at best, and I think that should tell us what we need to know.

Putting it all on him for one call is making you look bad.
Campbell should kick the hell out of Lazor and make him establish a running game.resnor likes this. -

Honestly, I think he's going to be a good coach someday. It will probably be somewhere else like a few others that have left here and gone onto nice careers in coaching while we keep hiring Philbins and Cam's. I don't like the idea of Tannenbaum picking the coach or being in control of the team so I am not sure it matters who we get to coach if we aren't drafting well or making good FA decisions. I think if we keep the front office intact we are going to have a Swiss cheese roster for a long time.

No need to make any kind of a decision this early. The question is way premature. I will say this much about him so far. He does not seem like he is taking full advantage of the opportunity he has.

Campbell appears to be a nice guy and he will be an excellent assistant coach on an NFL team next season. I just do not see him as being ready to be a head coach at this time. The Dolphins also can not afford to hire another head coach who needs on the job training to determine if he will be a capable head coach or not.

Since Philbin didn't call the plays during the games in Green Bay, he was merely an OC in name only. He basically was no more than a paper pusher with the Packers.
Sparano was the OL coach with the Cowboys and not a coordinator.
Saban was hired because of his success as a college head coach.
While Wannstedt had previously been a DC in the NFL and in college. He was basically hired because Johnson convinced Huizenga that he was best suited to take over after Johnson retired. Wannstedt had previously been the HC of the Bears and he was hired more for his relationship with Johnson and his experience in Chicago, than his experience as a defensive coordinator.
Johnson was hired because of his success as the Cowboys HC.
Shula was traded for because of success as the Colts HC.
So basically since Shula was hired in 1970, the Dolphins have only hired one true coordinator to fill their head coaching position. That person did end up being perhaps one of the worst head coaches in NFL history, but I still think that being a coordinator for an NFL team gives a coach an advantage when it comes to applying for a head coaching position.
Personally I would rather see the Dolphins hire a coordinator from one of the top teams in the league than stick with Campbell, who I believe just isn't ready to be a full time head coach at this stage of his career.Fin-O likes this. -

Wannstedt had several years experience as an NFL head coach prior to being hired as the Dolphins head coach. So it wasn't like he was hired because of his job as a coordinator. In fact he wasn't a coordinator with the Dolphins. He basically was the assistant head coach under Johnson, but there were other coaches who had responsibility as the OC and DC when Johnson was the HC and Wannstedt was on the staff.
As far as Philbin is concerned. As I stated earlier, I really never understood Philbin's title of OC with the Packers. While he helped formulate the game plan during the week, he never called the plays on game day. I really have no idea how someone can be considered a legitimate OC if they have nothing to do with the play calling during the game.
If you want to include him on your list because of his title with the Packers, I can't argue with you. But it was obvious during his time with the Dolphins why the Packers never trusted him to call plays. Because he was awful at this aspect of the game. He was just too queasy to be an effective play caller. -
Mike Shula anyone?? He has legendary ties, and has done a great GREAT job with Cam Newton.

campbell has no reason to remain as HC he came out and said he wants to run the ball more, that happened in 2 games out of 5. he is the damn head coach and can't even reel in his OC....
