Absolutely, history shows if Pennington plays a full season, his team wins and goes to the playoffs, and we have some great weapons this season.
As for "win big" PhinFans should recall their situation just two seasons ago, "win big" is an appearance in the AFC Championship Game..Crappy Tipper, Rocky Raccoon, PhinsRock and 3 others like this. -
If he stays healthy, QB is far from being a concern

Why not?
If he can stay healthy, I don't think there's anything we can't do.
We have a good bunch of guys now.baboo72 likes this. -

Oh yeah there is no doubt in mind that the Dolphins could win big with Pennington. In fact, I have Miami going 12-4 this year and winning the Super Bowl.

I'm doing great Kenny. How are you and your family doing? -
After seeing what i saw in last years superbowl, incredible plays from the qb position, i do have some reservations, however i think the scheme, the misdirection, the motion, the unrhythmic patterns of situational offense, helps him tremendously in winning the game. He uses the wildcat and what it does to a defense to his advantage.

I think it depends just as much on how well we can run the ball and play defense as it does how well Pennington plays. If we do those two things well I definitely think we can win big with him.

But like Rhody Phins Fan stated, Dilfer happened to have one of the greatest defenses of all time play with him. So, this proves that one player CANNOT win something by himself, and that it is a team effort.Alex44 likes this. -
If Pennington was believed to be capable of winning the SB, the Jets wouldn't have signed Brett Favre. Call me a skeptic.

The thing is, not whether Penny can carry us to the championship, but whether the talent on the rest of the team has caught up yet ??? On paper, we're a better team right now than last season...barring unforeseen things like injuries, we should be as good or better...on paper...the game isn't played on paper though...we still have to see if Davis and Smith can project to this level. We still have to see if the OL will finally gel and Thomas comes back to where we thought he'd be last season and will Groves be an upgrade to Satele and etc, etc....these questions are still out there. IF some of these things happen, and Penny stays healthy we can duplicate last years' successes...but will all those things happen ?? Don't know yet... That all said, Penny's tenure here is predicated on two things...can he stay reasonably healthy enough at his age to move this team forward and second, is Henne the real thing. If Henne shows the staff that his time sitting behind Penny is over, they may let him ride off into the sunset somewhere else, but the answer to that question is more about Henne than Penny, imho...

IMO, we are not a SB Caliber team as of yet, we can make the AFC Championship Game this season, also IMO, the Phins can accomplish that with two playoff wins.
But my goodness, from 1-15 to "can the Dolphins win big with", that is crazy and it shows how quickly the Dark Years can be forgotten. -
Of course we could, if we have the right team built around him. Not a doubt in my mind about Penny, my only doubts are ILB, CB, ST and is our WR position fully ready to break out? I think they are.

'could' we win big with CP ... sure -- did not the G-MEN and Parcells win with Simms.
not directly comparing the 2 ... but there are some parallels ... what it will take is a dominant OL and a tough top 3 defense that can shut opponents down (not just statistically speaking - as it is what we have been accustomed to doing for the last decade +). We are making headway on both of those accounts ... will we be there by the end of this year -- time will tell. Right now - today, i think we need 1 more year of experience and maybe 1 or 2 players ... but we are close ... very, very close! -
If Eli Manning can win a Super Bowl, so can Pennington.
-
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the question is whether or not if Chad Pennington is capable of winning the big game. Not, what do we need around Chad Pennington to win the big game.
Does he have what it takes mentally and physically to win big in the NFL? I think so.adamprez2003 likes this. -

Not to mention the miracle of escaping from 4,5 men on top of you, throwing the ball in the middle of the field to the 6th string WR who catches the ball on his helmet.
You need those other things before making such a statement.Disnardo likes this. -
J/K 124...
but your right,.... it is not what is in the frame of mind for a QB to perform effeciently, I think Chad can and he has shown that in his career in the Post Season...
He has not been consistant, and that is for sure, but what can lead a calm attitude for a QB, is the performance of the supporting cast of those arround him...:up:124 likes this. -
If Trent Dilfer can get a ring....Chad certainly can.
-
Its the same as the Trent Dilfer thing. He's just saying no QB wins the big game alone, they all need some help from their team. -

i really dont think penny can win it. i dont think you can win with a SMALL, weak armed QB. I think its irrelevant though. though i think we improved but we are still at least one offseason away from having legitimate SB dreams. I think we have a shot at the afc championship though if our defense goes berserk and turner turns out to be good so i guess if we got lucky maybe we would have a shot. To me our hopes lie in henne not penny and i really hope henne unseats penny this year instead of taking over next year. i would like him to have some experience for the monster team we'll have next year

Well, he helped lead us from a last place 1-16 team to AFC East Division Champs in one year, so I would say....yes.;)

I'm actually surprised this is a question. No QB can win it by himself, Marino proved that. What the QB must be able to do is make make enough plays to win. This is offset by the mistakes he or his team makes. So a QB who throws a ton of TDs or converts 3rd downs can afford more mistakes. There is no single stat that encompasses this, but a stat like TD/int ratio is telling. Generally a QB with a 2/1 ratio is producing enough (versus his mistakes). Last year CP easily accomplished that (19/7). He is clearly better than many QBs that have won SBs so obviously he is good enough given a good enough supporting cast. The better question is; is the team good enough to win big?
The Giants provided a very recent blueprint for the kind of team we're trying to build. Here's a summary from earlier in the thread:

This team has made improvements in those three areas. By the end of the year we may very well have the best pass rush in the league, a running game on par with what the Giants had, and a group of WRs as good or better than what the Giants had. If those goals are reached I have no doubt that CP is a good enough QB for the team to win big.Disnardo likes this.
