I am so tired of see Bell stumbling, falling, being caught out of position and showing up two seconds after the play is over. How we keep this elderly boob on the roster year after year I am sure I have no idea. The points this guy has cost us is staggering.

I'd be interested in seeing Clemons & Jones at Safety at this point.

I can care less at this point. Get a good GM and build us a team. Safety is just one postion of a long list of many that we need upgraded

It was Chad Henne's fault...He's the reason this team sucks so badly...
-
Yeremiah Bell had a bad day but he's the best performer in the backfield this year, by far and away.

Whenever an opposing player eludes everyone else, it's Bell who runs him down and saves the TD. Small consolation, but we would be worse off without him.
He's not a Cornerback and should never have to cover Vincent Jackson by himself after Sean Smith hands Jackson (and the result of the play) off like he did today. If that was a mistake, shame on Smith; if it was by design, then shame on Nolan. -

So seriously, tell me, why is Chad Henne the only player on this team that it's not okay to place blame on? I really want to know the answer.Nappy Roots likes this. -

Reshad Jones is the human equivalent of a traffic cone. All he does is wear a uniform and ensure that he is one of eleven guys so we can field a legal Defense. Beyond that, he's useless.

Bell has been our best DB since Surtain/Madison. Its a shame we wasted his best years too.

Do we even know wtf is wrong with Clemmons?! Totally miss that guy.

Oh and, Sean Smith is a *****, and tackles like a *****.
-
Clemons sucks too. Hes all over the field opposite of where the action actually is. Plus hes a SS playing FS, since Irish wouldnt know a true Free Safety if it bit him in the ***(see Gibril Wilson).

Fact of the matter is, none of these guys are as good as we thought they were...from the top to the bottom of the roster. Best offensive player, BM, just checks out and drops waaaaay too many for the $$ he gets.
Best defensive player...hmm..Wake, Dansby, umm...Dansby is a ghost out there..Wake seems to have a play a game and that's it, if at all. Jake Long just doesn't look right out there this season..
And on top of that, it really looks as if an indifference and lack of effort has taken over. Nuke it from orbit...it's the only way to be sure... -

Being a strong safety doesn't mean you suck in coverage. Gibril Wilson wasn't a strong safety playing free safety either. He essentially landed his big contracts with the Raiders and Dolphins off of what he did at Free Safety with the Giants.
Clemons handled free safety well last season, and the trappings that traditionally come with the position.djphinfan likes this. -

And Reshad Jones is not discipline in his coverages, takes bad angles, and just overall makes BAD DECISIONS.
Not someone who I want playing at free safety, period. His playstyle is more of a strong safety in this system. We're not playing a Tampa 2 here... -

I'm saying that there's nothing inherently wrong with a bigger, run defending player at free safety, especially if they can make the plays. Chris Clemons did a good job his second year. Gibril Wilson wasn't a bad fit for what the team wanted to do with Pasqualoni, he played poorly on his own accord. -
There really wasn't all that much we could have done for the defense aside from maybe getting another situational pass rusher. Honestly I think the base 3-4 is a dead-end. Its players are too hard to find, too easily get replaced on the football field in nickel and dime packages, and it doesn't have that flexible aspect teams were known for in the 3-4 years ago.
It would probably be easier going with a 4-3 and we have some good personnel for that system.
