Caprica As Deep As Battlestar
Ronald D. Moore, co-creator of SCI FI Channel's upcoming backdoor pilot film Caprica, told SCI FI Wire that the Battlestar Galactica prequel will foreshadow events in that series while dealing with some of the same weighty issues.
"It's something that Adama [Edward James Olmos] said in the [Battlestar] miniseries, you know: 'You don't play god and then get to walk away from what you created,'" Moore said in an interview at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills, Calif., on July 20. "And that's really the story of Caprica. We're going to watch them create this [Cylon race], and then wrestle with the ramifications of it. They're not even going to realize what they've created at first."
Caprica, a two-hour TV movie, will be set on the title planet, one of the 12 Colonies, 51 years before the events in Battlestar. It will center on two prominent families: the Adamas, led by Joseph (Esai Morales), and the Graystones, led by Daniel (Eric Stoltz).
Though the show will be relatively planet-bound and take place in an urban reality not unlike our own, Moore said the SF-tinged story will nevertheless enable him to tackle serious issues in the same way as Battlestar.
"Well, we're still going to be dealing with things that are similar, in that there are still going to be issues of terrorism and security and how society should protect itself or not protect itself," Moore said. "You know, what is the line between civil liberties and protection of the homeland? We're still going to be dealing with a lot of those things, because they're going to be spiraling out of certain events that happen in the pilot. And, you know, but you're also dealing with ethical responsibilities. You're also dealing with things like, you know, what is a person? What does it mean to be a sentient being? Does that being have rights? What are you allowed to do to something that you've created out in a laboratory? ... Does it have a soul?"

It looks great :)

IMO, that trailer did not look very good at all. Cylons started as simple robots and evolved into human clones. How can you start the whole process with an exact human clone? Makes no sense, and completely ignores the history of BSG. Maybe I'm just not understanding the trailer.
-
A little more background may be needed:
As for the Battlestar series, there were two distinct Cylons. The original concept was that the cylons were the creation of a reptilian race. The second concept is stated in the opening text of the Battlestar Galactica miniseries:
-
I'll watch this show and give it a fair shot, but I still don't see how any of that explains away the fact that during BSG, the humans were extremely surprised that cylons had created exact replicas of humans. If the whole deal started with an exact human copy 50 years earlier, why would anybody be surprised?

I can't wait... I'm a BSG superfreak.
-
I still don't know. I'm sure they'll make it work somehow. -
I'm on board. I'll watch anything and everything BSG.

BSG was awesome from start to finish.

Is anyone watching this?
-
Yeah, I have really liked it so far. I hope it really catches on
-
I like it but I think its going to be a casualty to ratings.
-
curious why they stuck it on friday night? thats a terrible night.
and an interesting lil twist with the uncle there in the last episode -
All the sci-fi shows seem to end up there, and - except for Battlestar - die there.Sethdaddy8 likes this. -
Was anyone else rooting for Greystones wife to get wacked? Soooo disappointed. I. Hate. Her.NaboCane, FinsPensFan and BuckeyeKing like this.

NaboCane likes this. -
yeah and only 9 episodes in a the season : /

Big Love was over before it started, it seemed; Caprica too.
Eureka, with their stupid season 3/season 3.5 bull****.
I HATE that.
I actually MISSED the entire season of Secret Diary of a Call Girl recently, because it was EIGHT EPISODES. Yeah, 8 episodes, each only 22:30 long.
Seriously, somehow I completely missed the whole thing.
Bad on you, Showtime, for not promoting it better. And here's what you get: I downloaded the whole season in 40 minutes...and you don't get to show me any promos like you would if I'd seen it on your channel. :tongue2: -
i was really bummed to hear that this will be the last episode for the season. way too short. and not enough progress imo. if this is gonna be a 4 or 5 season show, i'd like to have seen more advancement.
that said, it was a good episode this week, and hopefully that continues. i dig the "new cap city" angle, and am rooting hard for mrs greystone to eat a bullet. -
I liked the first season, looking forward to where it goes to next.
-
The season finale was weak.
They had a whole (12-episode ) season to advance the story arc, and the final episode consists ENTIRELY of cliffhangers?!
Not ONE resolution?
Pretty horse**** way to run a TV show with a pedigree as prestigious as this one. -

I thought over 1 Mil was strong for a show like Caprica. After all it started on Friday. No show does good on a Friday.
-
Damn that was a good way to enter the new season.
