The anal stage is where a child learns to delay the gratification from expelling their bowels when ever they feel like it, ie toilet training.

Yes, I'm all for people being toilet trained! :wink2:

Well since this thread has some good Freud discussion going on, can anyone elaborate on Freud's theory of religion?

From what I have read he seemed to compare religion to someone who repeatedly washes their hands to make sure they are clean. Which means that people practice religion and go through all repetitive tasks necessary to wash their soul clean. He basically called religion obsessive neurosis. I had trouble following the finer details of his theory however and I wonder if anyone here such as you femalefinfan has a better understanding of this. I know he dedicated a considerable amount of time to to it and wrote more than a single book on the topic.

Also I believe Carl Jung dealt with that topic as well.

I'm not sure of either man's views on religion. If anyone is that interested in Freud and Jung, I'd recommend reading Civilization and its Discontents and Intrepretation of Dreams by Freud and Man and his Symbols by Jung. Those may have insights to their view on religion.
Or you could just google it!

I can only imagine all the other things that book shared its space with under your bed. Alcohol bottles, latex girlfriends, and Freud now that tells us more about the human psyche then Freud ever could have. :shifty:
