I bet the Pat's got the Chiefs 1st rounder (3rd overall?) and some other stuff which is good for them, BUT what if Brady's knee doesn't heal...are they going to go with O'Connell if Brady can't go? They better bring in a guy like Jeff Garcia as a backup.
On the Patriot's Planet site they are saying: Schefter is saying a 2nd this year (35 I think) and a conditional pick next year. I am wondering if Vrabel + Cassel = the 3rd overall? I don't want to see Crabtree in a Pat's uniform and have Moss on the other side.
If they had the third overall i doubt they'd go WR with it. They'd probably try and nail a LB or DB since they're all ancient. But that thought is not a good one : /
Schefter is saying a 3rd team might be involved so Cassel may end up somewhere other than KC. Pioli better not give the Pats too much.
please god, do not give the pats the chiefs 1st round pick...Cassel is a product of that system and coaching.
I believe that's if they just wanted to pick him up and sign him, but since this is a trade it's different.
The two #1's only count if another team signs him directly away from the Patriots, if they just trade him then whatever they get for him is all they end up with.
When a player is franchised, it means any team can sign that player, but they must let new england either match the salary offered, or give new england draft picks as compensation. If nobody does that the player remains the original teams for the franchise price. The team (patriots here) can then trade that player for whatever they can get, it doesnt have to be the picks needed to sign that player away. Here I would expect KCs second rounder and a conditional next year depending on starts and stats and such. Hopefully Bradys knee implodes
That is the hold up apparently, Cassel hasn't signed and there is another team involved as well, KC may move Larry Johnson or Gonzo to clear space for Vrabel and Cassel.
Looks like the Pats basically got the #34 overall pick for Vrabel and Cassel....I think the Pats could have gotten more.....they do have 7 or 8 of the top 100 picks in the draft though.
It was a good move for both teams, unless Brady is still hampered by the knee come gameday. Lets see if the Chiefs try and move LJ or Gonzo now.
As i mentioned in another thread about this... The local stations here are reporting that Detroit was the 3rd team involved. They were apparently attempting to get Cassel, then trade him over to Denver for Jay Cutler... No links or anything, just heard it on the 6pm sports broadcast... Dont know the truth to it, but thats what they were reporting
You think the Pats would have made the Chiefs pay through the nose, considering they were the ones who put brady on the shelf last year
