Given that it's Nolan at the helm, i will hold out hope, but given this info, if true, i don't hold out much hope that this will not be where the wheels come off this franchise.

The Riddler to be played by Eddie Murphy (not feeling like that's gonna work, i wish the Depp rumors were true).

Catwoman possibly to be played by Rachel Weisz (now that i don't mind!)

Robin to be played by Shia Leboef (if there has to be a Robin, he's as good a choice as any off the top of my head).

Article also states the movie is to end in a cliffhanger, leaving the audience wondering if The Dark Knight survives an explosion at Wayne Towers.

Eddie Murphy is set to play The Riddler in the new Batman film | 'Gotham' cast revealed | The Sun |Showbiz|Bizarre

The very fact that there's going to be a Robin pisses me off. The director had said that Robin wouldn't appear in the series.

On a side note, I heard these all debunked this morning as just internet rumors.

No way they put Eddie Murphy as the riddler. This isn't the old Batman series. So far they've done everything right and kept everything dark and serious. I wouldn't imagine that trend will continue.

i hope that you are right, and that the sun printed this in hopes they had something. i can't see Nolan following up the Dark Knight with a campy film, and i cannot see Eddie Murphy playing it any other way.

I'm gonna defend Eddie Murphy here. Just because the guy is usually goofy, doesn't mean his appearance is gonna "camp up" the movie. Eddie used to do great movies and will see this as opportunity to show people he's not dead yet.

I think he'll nail it, and everyone will be pleasantly surprised.

    How can he nail it?

Right of the bat he's not believable in the role.

Does this look like Eddie Murphy?

I understand we have a racially diverse country, but can we stop taking iconic characters that millions grew up with and changing the way they look completely?

And that goes BOTH ways...I wouldn't want to watch Jerry Seinfeld in a remake of "Shaft".

If they were going to make the Riddler black then might as well get Wesley Snipes, not Axel Foley.

Still holding out hope that it's Depp though.

The Seinfeld/Shaft analogy doesn't work and you know it. Shaft's whole identity is that he's a badass black dude. Seinfeld's whole identity is that he's a whiny Jew.

The Riddler's identity has nothing to do with his being white. It is not essential to his character. The Riddler just happens to be a white guy. It makes no difference if the Riddler is black or white. You're just used to it.

EXACTLY. Been reading Batman comics for almost 40 years now. Maybe you don't get into it as much as I do...but when you're accustomed to seeing something one way for that long, it loses a little when you see it the other way.

Or do you really think Cedric the Entertainer was a valid choice to play Ralph Kramden?

And if my Seinfeld analogy didn't work for you, how about this...would you have wanted to see Jean Claude Van Damme as Blade? I know I wouldn't have.

Maybe Arnold as Spawn? Nope...me neither.

There's no reason to mess with the formula of iconic comic characters other than to try to drum up a bigger box office draw.

When something is cast correctly, the experience is that much more enjoyable. A perfect example of this is the X-Men series. Every actor is perfect for their part.

That entire series of Batman movies is embarrassing.

Well, Heath Ledger certainly wasn't the archetypical Joker cast - not even in Frank Miller's interpretation - and look what he did with the role. Mind you, I find the thought of Eddie Murphy playing The Riddler ludicrous but that's because I don't think he's a good enough actor to pull a Heath Ledger.

I call BS too. Until Nolan is confirmed by multiple, reliable sources I'm not buying anything. And if someone other than Nolan is put in charge I'll probably be very disappointed.

Wouldnt go that far. Cyclops was a gigantic *****. You could say some of that is how his character is written, but the guy who plays him is also small and wimpy.

You could also say that Magneto is much older than he was in the comics.

Turns out Nolan turned down the next installment and the Wayans Brothers are making a bid to do the film. Look for Marlon to play the Riddler and Shaun to wear a ton of make up (See White Chicks) to play Catwoman.

I liked the first two a lot, but the third fell short. I wish they saved Venom for number 4 with 3 having a cliffhanger ending. He was treated as an afterthought (and I do believe the studio pushed for Venom to be in that movie against the Director's wishes if I remember correctly).

They nailed it with everyone else though. The scene in the first one when Storm rises up out of the elevator shaft gave me chills it was so perfect.

Remember that the X-Men were just kids in the beginning and if you checked out the old stories Cyclops wasn't a huge dude, he was a kid in blue and yellow PJ's with awesome sunglasses.

Yea your right about the studio pushing for Venom in the 3rd.

Rami was against it and presumably f'ed the character up to throw a temper tantrum. You would think that a director would understand going into a superhero movie, that the fans are going to want to see the most popular villain at some point and time.

I really wouldn't mind the 3rd being the end of the series if they don't plan on bringing back Venom in any form.

I remember that. But, it seemed like everyone else was very grown up in the movie though. Storm and Jean look like their in their 30's and Wolverine even older.

I just didn't see why they wouldn't do the same with Cyclops and make him a real leader like he was in the comics. Not a real *****.
