Chad Henne's first two games as a Miami Dolphin. I made this vid today, Here it is: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFa4R7SEI1M"]YouTube - Our rookie[/ame] Note: Probably I will delete this video from my YT account in a few days. (You know, NFL copyright issues )
Great vid, no chance anyone could watch that and think he was a rookie. I hope he starts finding the endzone in the next preseason games. but he knows how to keep the ball safe and find the open guy. His playaction looks real good too, hides the ball well and sells it.
As a Buckeye fan, it was hard to see us draft Chad Henne. I'm glad to see he's making it easier on me. Thanks for the video.
no question about his play action skills, really was evident in that video, i saw players on many plays change their direction because of it. Chad will be an excellent teacher for this kid.
Great video Gio, thanks. Looking back at the Tampa Bay game, I thought that his performance was against the second and third stringers but I was partially incorrect. Some of the first string players from Tampa Bay include Gaines Adams, Phillip Buchanon, and Tenard Jackson. Those players were in playing in the second quarter when Henne was in. In the third quarter, the backups were in as you can see Sammy Davis and I believe that is Sabby Pischitelli that is in as well. Moving along to his performance, Chad Henne looks very comfortable back there. He looks like he has done it before and he somewhat has. One of the key things that were pointed out by Sparano and scouts from the NFL Draft was that he has played in big games before. He played in Michigan and is not star-shy if you will. Furthermore, he displays good accuracy with power on his throws. He just slings it in there and reminds me of Favre at times. (I'm not a great comparison-guy so don't bash me if I'm completely wrong and if I am, I apologize, that's what I see.) With the arm strength and accuracy, he displays toughness. He takes hits and still delivers the ball. He also makes smart decisions as displayed in the game against Tampa. Not a big play but a important one. My guess is that he saw that his receivers covered at the 1:24 mark in the video and decided to cover up and run the ball. That's big in my opinion because it shows that he will take what he can get, regardless of the gain of the play. One of the few negatives about Henne is him locking on to his receivers. He does have a tendency to do that. I'm not sure if they can fix that to be honest, maybe someone with more knowledge can clarify that for us. At the 4:48 mark, you can see that he is looking at his options. He looks right and sees nothing there, then moves on to his left to dump the pass off. My guess is that he can fix that and is trying to do so but again, I'm not completely sure if that's possible to fix. I can understand why Sparano is pondering over the possibility of Henne starting this year. Do I think it happens? No, not week one. Could it? Very likely with Pennington's injury history and only completing one 16 game season. However, I don't think he will start week one but could likely get a chance to display his talent later in the season.
he looks good on the move, not the fastest guy, but manages to buy enough time and is accurate with passes while on the run. this is a very key skill, especially with the young o-line. they need to settle in on a core group of receivers and let them start getting some solid timing and chemistry. ginn will be the deep threat, hagan and wilford will be the possession guys and bess will be welker 2.0. I think we might be ok.
Thanks a lot for this. Been waiting awhile to see clips of Henne's preseason action. Looks like there was significant improvement from the Tampa game to the Jags game. I hate to get excited about preseason but Henne sure does seem to be making a great adjustment to the speed of the NFL game.
My favorite part about the guy is his presense in the pocket. Haven't seen a Dolphins QB feel the pressure that well since Marino! My favorite play was that roll-out to Hagan on the broken play.
I think the mention of Henne starting has a bit more to do with motivating Pennington to take in all the installs within 2 weeks. However, they are quite confident in Henne starting. Every time someone says he locks on to his receivers, I just want to tear me hair out. Would it please everyone if Henne just looked off his first read and just threw to his second read on every single play? Henne makes his pre-snap read and knows where to go with the ball. He is very decisive with that first read and can judge his own arm and the speed of the ball to reach his receiver and away from the defender. If it's not there he goes through his progressions. I see nothing wrong with him hitting that receiver because he has great field awareness and is very assured of his abilities and reading the defense.
The first I have seen of Henne and I will say I was very pleased with what I saw. Thanks for the vids.
Did you see the one play in the Jags game where he looked to his primary receiver on the right side of the field, saw that the guy was covered, then changed and looked left and thew to the open receiver for a nice gain? 4:51 of that video. He looked like a seasoned veteran Now that I have a second look, he doesn't look like he locks on his primary receiver at all.
Nice job with the video there. Good display of Henne's abilities, and his apparent comfort in the pocket for being a rookie. Its definately an encouraging sign for the franchise and its fans that we may... finally have found the QB we've been lacking. Mind you... its early, very early. But So far Henne is doing everything right.
Very impressive stuff. It is quite amazing how poised he appears already. He also looks pretty damn accurate on the intermediate to long stuff, which is nice. It seems like he already has the hardest stuff for a rookie to grasp down pat. The game does not seem too fast for him, and I love his pocket presence so far. He needs to work on not staring down receivers, but that will come. It frankly is quite unreal that I can watch a 5 minute clip of a rookie in his first two preseason games and already see more than I have seen out of the QB position on this team in 9 years. He was straight dealing in that Jacksonville game.
i don't mean to sound overly optimistic, but pennington aside, Henne is looking like the best QB this team has seen since Marino. bar none.
Exactly. Now, he could have either forced that ball to the primary receiver or thrown it away but he didn't. He went to his secondary reciever.
Its very encouraging to see this good progress so early on, hopefully he will be able to keep it up throughout the preseason, and then if called upon in the regular season can do a solid job. Its pretty clear the management is making him our future starter, with Pennington as a journeyman temp. Still, really really really hope P. has a great game and beats the Jets, that woud be awesome ...
Thank you guys for watching the clip , I know, only preseason games and it was mostly on Henne's performance but our O-line is doing a decent job protecting our QB's also, I think Jake Long has been impressive, he had one false start (Bucs game) and a running play where he was beat (Jags game) but I take that as a rookie mistakes, not really worried about it, but other than that, he's doing a great job out there IMO. Just FYI these aren't Henne's "highlights" (focussing only on the "good" plays) those were basically Henne's whole series. (both games)
