Before I get tarred and feathered, please actually read my entire post. If you want to complain, whine, or argue against my point that's fine as long as you read the entire post AND bring forth something of intellectual worth (I don't just want to hear Henne sucks, etc.).
In order to succeed as a WCO QB there are a few traits QB's must excel at; including but not limited to:
1.) Accuracy
2.) Good Pre-snap reads as well as quick reads on the fly
3.) Ability to make every throw on the route tree
4.) Mobility
"The West Coast offense requires a quarterback who throws extremely accurately, and often blindly, very close to opposing players. In addition, it requires the quarterback to be able to quickly pick the best one of 5 receivers to throw to; certainly much more quickly than in previously used systems. Often, the quarterback has no time to think about the play and must act robotically, executing the play exactly as instructed by the offensive coordinator, who calls the plays for him."
The more and more I think about it, Henne really could thrive in these situations. It honestly excites me knowing that when Philban starts doing his homework on the Miami Dolphins team he is going to take over he is going to watch a couple games of Henne. While Henne had his faults I really, really think he could be wildly successful in the WCO coming down here.
1.) Henne, believe it or not has always seemed like an accurate QB to me, at times. Those times always seemed to be when we were still in the game and were not trailing by much. When he could make "checkdown" throws and hit intermediate passes, while not worrying about the scoreboard he always looked solid to me. When the Dolphins started to trail by more and more and the offensive attack got more and more aggressive with a downfield attack, that's always when I saw a huge drop off in his accuracy as he would try to force balls into places they shouldn't be thrown.
2.) This kind of plays in line with the quote I threw in there. I for the most part think Henne would always make the right pre-snap reads, but I also think the previous offense called for him to do more reads as the plays progressed. He almost seemed to follow the coaches and the way the offensive plays and reads were drawn up to fault. When you watched him it really looked like he was trying to do so much processing on each play and just wasn't out there playing ball. In the WCO all he would have to do is make some pre-snap reads and key in on one or two receivers. Additionally, he would have to follow the play calls exactly as far as which receivers to hit given the coverage, etc. Given this situation I really think Henne will succeed. The reads, would be a lot quicker and easier for him, unlike watching him sit back there trying to process so much information with harder reads.
3.) Henne without a doubt can hit every throw he is asked to complete. He has always had a cannon, and the offense would not be limited with at the helm.
4.) Henne lost a lot of weight the previous offseason and it really showed in the beginning of this year. In those 4 games he had rushed for 28 more yards than his 32 other games combined. One of his greatest strengths was throwing on the run. These strengths could be capitalized on in the WCO.
All in all, I think Henne could make a really good WCO QB and should be given a chance to come in and compete. I really would love to hear what Philban has to say about him after he watches those four games. Henne could come back to Miami in a cheap deal that would allow for him to compete for playing time. Additionally, I would feel very confident going into the season with Matt Moore, Chad Henne, and a 2nd or 3rd round rookie as our QBs or Matt Moore, Chad Henne, and Matt Flynn.
Let the tarring and feathering begin.

Henne is not a West Coast quarterback. his short throw accuracy is pretty bad and his ball placement is also horrible. He needs to be in an offense where throwing the ball as hard has he can in almost any situation is most beneficial.

Henne might be good in the WCO we install here but I would say the chances of him being retained are slim to none. If he resigns here it means that we crapped out in the draft and with Flynn and he is the last resort, not good IMO.

The biggest thing with henne, to me, was his staring down his receivers. Every safety in the NFL knew where the ball was going before it got there. That's why he had so many picks. -
Haters do that. They will make up bogus stats to support their weak arguments. It's actually pretty funny.
Truth is, Henne ran a west coast type offense at Michigan, and he did perfectly fine. They just want to hate. I hope Philbin sees that he would be a valid option. Half of these guys would quit posting forever. -
I prefer Moore, but reality is, Moore's ball is better on deeper stuff, his short game is not as good as Henne's.gunn34 and like this. -
Some players have it and others dont. Tim tebow is a winner and Chad henne is a loser.

In that style of attack, putting the ball into the general area and letting the Wr make the play is what is required, in the SBO, the ball is going into tight windows and must be accurately delivered. -
Good idea, Henne the first time around was awesome...I'll bet Henne 2.0 is even better!!!
You're forgetting one important ingredient in this equation...would he even want to return to Miami??? I'm not sure he would, because it's not like he'd be handed the starting job here if they did resign him. He could probably find 3 or 4 other teams through free agency in which he could compete for the starting roll. Getting a fresh start somewhere else might be the best case scenario for him (and for the Dolphins).
I agree that he progressed last season until the injury, but I'd like to see them proceed in a different direction...whether that is with Flynn or drafting a QB. -

See I agree but dont. Here is why. I think that Henne had turned a corner last year and got it. Trouble is, while players stated they had confidence and to a degree they did. They still had henne of 10 in their mind. Meaning no matter what they said, they still werent fully sold on him. then we were losing games and red zone was atrocious and the questions probably started to creep back in, even tho it wasnt all on Henne.
Basically what I am saying is I think Henne can be a good starting qb, not elite, noit great, but not here. I believe that one trait that a qb has to have for success, is he has to have teh respect and full confidence of those around him, he has to inspire confidence. Players have to follow him unquestioned. I dont think Henne can get that here. Too much water has crossed that bridge -
Chad Henne in the WCO offense is scary. He can't make a presnap read to save his life. So why would we put him in an offense that requires a strong presnap read of the defense and quick decision making based upon that read and quick reaction if the read is wrong? Chad Henne can't do ANY of those things.

UCF,
I just don't agree. Philbin has already mentioned QB rating differential as being hugely important. Henne's TD/INT ratio kills him in that department. Too early to say for sure, but given what Philbin has already said, I don't see him being a Henne fan.
Even if what you say is true, do you honestly think a new head coach in this league is going to hitch his success to a guy who has mostly failed in his 2 1/2 years (spanning 3 seasons) as a starter? -
Henne sucks, etc.

When I looked at Henne's split for 2011 from ESPN.com
1 - 10 yards 64% completion
11 - 20 yards 51% completion
Those averaged to 57.5%.

Accuracy, decision making, mobility... three of first four things that Philbin mentioned in his presser regarding what he looks for in a quarterback. Henne does not pass the test on those three things IMO. I'd be stunned if he's back next year.
