The question was posted and lost in a thread so I wanted to ask in it's own thread.
Does anyone know of a previous QB that had issues with zone coverages? Is this something that can be coached?
Please due respect the thread and leave the hate/love comments for Henne out of this. Thanks! :hi5:

the part that I struggle with is the fact that we know he struggles against cover 2, so at what point are the coaches going to step in, and COACH the kid, help him through these struggles, instead of just throwing him out there and calling plays? We've obviously yet to do that since his struggles against cover 2 continue, and fail to get better, so... yet again it makes me wonder why are things not happening with coaching the kid up. Is Lee that bad with developing QB's, what exactly is he coaching Henne to do? What is Henning doing to help out? Sure we're running the ball a bit more, but then what has sparano done? Aside from trying to bench him? I'm sure things are going on behind the scenes that we dont know about, but there's no signs of it, that's what worries me.

I do believe the coaching staff is trying to coach the kid up and maybe it's something that just can't be coached. Was hoping for examples of other QBs who may have struggled versus zone coverages and see if they were able to make adjustments. -
There have been reports that Bill Parcells had lost faith in Henne's ability to ever become a top tier NFL QB. It is obvious that Sparano and Henning also feel this way. That is shown by the fact that they went to Pennington as the starting QB a few weeks ago. Also the fact that the Dolphins have gone back to running the Wildcat offense so often appears to speak more about the coaches lack of faith in Henne than it does in how effective the Wildcat is at this time. Henne has thrown 12 TD passes and has 15 interceptions. He is terrible at running a two minute offense. He in extremely inconsistent in throwing the football.
The fact is that Henne is nothing but a mediocre NFL QB and no coach is going to make him any better than he is right now. He should not be a starting QB in the NFL on a weekly basis. Eventually he will end up where he belongs. On another team as their backup QB. -
there is nothing you are going to do to improve him this year coaching wise. he needs to concentrate on getting better at cover 2 next offseason. thats the only time you can really concentrate on coaching him up. once the season starts all your time is spent on the next game not fundamentals

To me during the season he can still work on and improve against the Cover 2. -
I think Eli Manning had alot of problems with cover 2 the first couple of years but I'm not 100% on thatascii likes this. -

Guys I don't want this to turn into a hate/love thread, I'd really like to know if anyone has the information I seek. Please keep the thread on track, thank you. :hi5:

Apparently Joe Flacco has/had cover 2 issues as well.

He seems to be doing okay this year. Maybe this is indeed something that coaching/planning can overcome.
One interesting note I found in that article is that one thing they stressed is having a speed guy. Something Miami currently lacks. Which leads to another question, if Henne only struggles versus a cover 2 and they add a speedster to stretch the safeties will this make him more successful? I guess the better question is, is he not hitting open receivers because of his inability to pick apart the defense or that defenses don't fear anyone getting behind them? I remember something about the Ravens game, saying they weren't afraid of Henne going deep. Is that due to design or due to no deep threat receiver? -

If Henne connects with Hartline on the deep ball does that soften up the cover 2? I believe it does. Another side effect is the confidence level swings from extreme negative to positive. I'd like to see Henne get another shot at a Cover 2 defense this year. Do you know if the anyone on the remaining schedule plays a cover 2 type defense? -
EDIT: The thanks button was removed or I would have thanked you. :hi5: -

So far though I am not impressed and I think it is far more likely that he will be nothing but a run of the mill QB. Instead of the franchise QB we all were hoping he would be when the Dolphins drafted him.ascii likes this. -
I think his only poison exists against the cover 2. Do you think otherwise?
Also, his college completion percentage was 59.7%. That's not bad, not saying it's good, but it's not bad IMO. -
