But is Ochocinco still an elite receiver in his 10th NFL season at age 32? A matchup against Vontae Davis, the Dolphins’ second-year cornerback, will be a good test, he says.
“Regardless of how long I’ve been playing, what I’ve done in the past, by going against a corner like this, it lets me know where I am, as far as still being an elite receiver,” Ochocinco said Wednesday in a teleconference with South Florida media. “When you watch Vontae play, and you see someone like himself put himself in position every time to at least make a play on the ball, that puts you in that upper echelon of cornerbacks, and that’s what I see in him. So I’m looking forward to that and really gauging myself, and it will tell me where my game is.”
Ochocinco was also highly complimentary of the Dolphins’ defense, which currently is tied for 10th-best in the NFL based on total yardage. He also said one player in particular stood out – number 91, a.k.a. Cameron Wake.
“Coach (Marvin) Lewis, we always do our own film session together on the off day, about two hours, and G– damn, defense is really good man,” Ochiocinco said. “No seriously, seriously. Vontae Davis is really good, so I’m looking forward to that challenge. And 91, what’s 91’s name? Jesus Christ, tell him to slow a little bit. G– damn, every freaking play he has a motor.”
