I was reading an article and I noticed that Chansi Stuckey made his debut at Cornerback in the last pre-season game. He had four tackles according to the article. A question regarding his move. Will it be a temporary one or a permanent? I'm assuming this move was made because of Brad Smith's progress in the slot, correct?
Chansi did play in the secondary as a Nickelback but he is first and formost a receiver. The Jets view him as a slot receiver and a back-up to Cotchery as Smith is the #1 back-up (to Coles). He'll be the 4th receiver this season to start, but by seasons end could very well unseat Smith at 3 if Smith's hype this Preseason doesn't pan out in the games. The reason for playing Stuckey back there was primarily to see if the Jets could carry less Defensive Backs than usual (they're carrying 9, so I guess Mangini didn't like what he saw), plus in worst case scenario it gives some, no matter how little it is, experience to someone whose never played Corner to step in and play Corner in case of excessive injuries (I.E. - Troy Brown's job in New England a few years ago when the Patriots had injuries and guess who was the Pats Secondary coach that year... Eric Mangini).
