And after a 9 minute drive, the offense does nothing and puts a tired D back on the field. Here comes the collapse.

The competitive phase of this game is now over. The defense is gassed and the offense went into panic-and-pass mode while only down by ten.

Also i dont understand why we gave up on the run... stay true to the offense whether we are down by 1 or down by 20...

Josh with a the dagger mistake. No idea what he was doing with that throw. Chargers are on cruise control now.

Okay, I'm off to do something more fun with the rest of my day.

Why was Preston Williams running his curl route 3 yards out of bounds?

Another game characterized by complacency by the opposing team in the first half, followed by greater effort and dominance in the second half.

Like I said after last week, bet the Dolphins in the first quarters and first halves of games, and bet the opposing teams in the second halves.

Yeah. Philip Rivers was never trying in the first half. Probably the most competitive player in the history of the NFL.

Their punter can punt and kick field goals. Our kicker can't be bothered to consistently kick field goals.

You don’t think professional football players give varying degrees of effort?

When a team is down by less than a touchdown at the end of a game and is executing a two-minute drill to try to win it, you don’t think it’s giving greater effort at that time than at the average time?

Just because I like stirring the pot...

Prior to that interception, Rosen had a QBR of 118...and we’re STILL losing.

At least thus far there has been more balance offensively which has probably helped Rosen with a 72% completion percentage prior to the pick

I'm at a winery enjoying my day. Why watch this garbage? Even teams that suck destroy the Dolphins.

That’s essentially a replay of last week, however, where the opposing team gave greater effort in the second half, and the Dolphins got down by a decent margin on the scoreboard, resulting in poorer play by Rosen during that part of the game.

Nothing to do with halftime adjustments by either coaching staff and only to be attributed to the opposing player’s efforts?

I'm curious about Rosen. Worth watching for that reason alone IMO. Otherwise the losing doesn't bother me because if this tank job leads to us picking a very good QB prospect in next year's draft it'll all be worth it.

Regarding Rosen.. so far it looks like he can play real well in ideal conditions, but he can't be relied on to overcome a deficit or play well in adverse conditions. So despite the good 1st half, I don't see Rosen as anything more than a backup atm. 12 games to prove otherwise.

No way to know, because we aren’t privy to halftime adjustments, but what we are privy to is the fact that opposing teams are well aware of the fact that they are playing a team with inferior talent, which likely makes it difficult for them to give their typical effort, perhaps until they realize they need to.

All valid points. I just can't bring myself to watch. It's like the outcome is determined before the game even starts. Also, I have no faith in this front office making smart decisions regarding the draft. They'll screw it up somehow

What tells us that successful halftime adjustments are more obvious and consistent than an increase in effort by opposing teams in the second half?

Either the teams we’ve played are far better than the Dolphins at halftime adjustments, or there is some other factor at play.

Sure, but that doesn't explain why the Dolphins have been outscored 81-0 in second halves this season.

I do as well- I don't think the adjustments are allowing us to compete. I mean, we ran the ball well today for 2.5 quarters then just abandoned it for screens. Not intermediate throws pushing the field, mind you, but short screen passes that didn't produce as much as the runs.

I mean, Drake and others were fired up in the first half and we were playing for the lead....why change the strategy because of a few dropped passes and missed field goals? I can see swapping out players but the initial strategy was solid.

there were three times today Allen had close to 8 seconds to throw and managed to get sacked. How is that even possible?

Who wants to start the Fire Flores bandwagon. I'll ride. We need an experienced coach with what will probably be the youngest in the league next year.(2nd youngest this year)

I would say it being the Dolphins every week makes it more consistent then every team we play only taking the first half of games off.

That's like yelling at a hurricane to go away. Ross hired Flores knowing what this season at least would look like, and he fired Gase cause Gase wasn't on board with losing. So, feel free to start the Fire Flores bandwagon, but it's probably pointless because all the Dolphins management were aware of how this was going to go.

But the point is that it was other teams' successful halftime adjustments that were responsible for the pattern of play in second halves. That's no more consistent a possibility than those same teams' giving diminished effort in first halves and turning it on in second halves.

Also, the Dolphins are the common denominator in the latter possibility as well -- it's other teams' knowledge of how inferior they are that could cause initial apathy on their part.

As I said yesterday, however, almost everything we say here is speculative in nature, and we'll never know either way. The halftime adjustments possibility is certainly just as plausible as the opposing teams' apathy possibility.

All teams game plan and then adjust as the game goes on or by halftime. Blaming the dolphins coaches for failing to adjust or adjusting unsuccessfully by the 2nd half of each game involves fewer variables or moving parts then blaming 4 other teams for not putting in the effort.

Or it could be as simple as we have a vastly inferior roster and teams see how we're covering up clear weaknesses during the half. To me, the Dolphins are over-achieving in the first half and simply can't keep up when the lead grows too large.

Yes, but great teams keep that effort at least more consistent than crappy ones, I'd wager at least.

That's something that should've been evident on film after game one. The teams playing the Dolphins after game one shouldn't have needed a half of observation of the team during their own game with them to determine how they would exploit the Dolphins' vastly inferior talent.

All halftime adjustments are made during the week prior to the game. You need time to install such adjustments and make the players aware. There is no such time had during halftime. It's bathroom breaks, retaping, equipment swaps, and that's about it. There might be small tweaks made in-game like personnel matchups and/or small positional technique advantages to discuss, but the talk of halftime adjustments in this thread is well overblown.
