Well the Chargers are carrying a $6M cap hit to cut him when the cap hit to keep him was $6.5M. Makes you wonder.

splitting hairs here. the guy was awful last year. considering how much money the chargers gave him last year, $13.5 million in guaranteed money last year, including $8 million to sign, I'd actually call him significantly worse than Martin value-wise

 

Every time he steps on the field he's better than what we currently have, unless Martin improves tremendously.

 

He very likely wasn't going to make it to 12 anyways and I'd be surprised if he makes it to San Diego without a trade up.

The good thing about Jared Gaither is with two falls from grace under his belt he's going to be pretty damn cheap. I don't expect the Dolphins to bite.

 

The question with him seems to be the back injury and whether or not he can be relied on to step on the field...

 

Gaither played very well last season. But he didn't play much.

His issue at this point is whether he is motivated to play. I've heard he may suffer from depression.

 

FWIW, I signed Gaither to be my RT for my GML team. That is about the highest compliment a player can get.

In the way of fake an injury to the point your own teammates go on record not wanting anything to do with you.

This fan base would rip him apart for the mysterious undiagnosed injuries and laziness. He's a great example of wasting your god given talents.

 

Missed time, yes. High salary, sure. Average play? Not really, IMO.

Chargers were in a hurry to get rid of him and that's probably the biggest concern since we've already heard all kinds of rumbling about what he's like from the standpoint of work ethic and injuries and stuff like that.

Worth investigating. So is Jeff Otah.

 

My point was that the statement "he was awful last year" implies that he stepped onto the football field and played awful football. He didn't.

 

Well if the staff wasn't impressed with Long's injuries. No way in hell they even sniff on him really.

Well that's what happens when half the rejects are better than what the dolphins have.

 

But are they? Half this board is demanding we sign a cut twice in two years RT from a 2-14 team. Last time I checked, we were 7-9 and on an upward trend.

This goes back to the early days of Bill Walsh when he was getting resistance from some players. These players were talking about how they wanted out but Bill reminded them that they were on a 2-14 team...so how many teams in the NFL would want them anyways?

Let me ask you this. Why, when you see all of these guys coming out of college with gladiator bodies, did the Big Weirdo come out of college puffy, sloppy and fat with everyone agreeing he needs to do some serious work in the weight room?

Let's not sit here and pretend there is "no basis whatsoever" for that fear.

 

While I agree he wasn't strong enough, using the magic of google, I don't see pictures of him looking sloppy, puffy or fat. Especially not fat.

I think there is a more basis for him becoming Notorious BIG than Big Lazy.

I think the knock on Gaither was always his work ethic being questioned. Seems like his teamates did not have much faith in him
