I still want Strong to stick around for a couple more years, then when Meyer leaves or retires he takes over as head coach. One can dream....

Charlie was a solid d coordinator back at south Carolina in the early 2000's when sc had Goodman, Abraham, Sheldon brown, ko Simpson etc. He is the one person associated with the Gator program I have a soft spot for as he's deserved a head coaching job for a while

I have a hard time believing he stays after all these seniors leave...

Time for a new, well-deserved gig for Charlie Strong!

I am not sure he should get the Gators job yet. He needs to go prove himself else where. I think him and Randy Shannon would be alot alike

What else does he have to do to prove himself?

Also if a school told me "Go coach somewhere else, prove yourself, come back and coach here"

I'd have one finger up on each hand, my back turned to them soon after, and wouldn't ever be part of that team again.

Being a great Coordinator does not mean you will be a great coach. How many Coordinators in college get jobs like Florida? You should have to go up the ladder like everyone else.

Can't say I would disagree if he did that, But you have to do whats best for your program

Skeet I do agree that being a great Coordinator doesnt make you fit for head coaching. Just saying I'm not sure my pride would let me do that...either you believe in me now or dont, but I'm not coming back.

He is more than a great coordinator, he is also a great recruiter and a an excellent motivator. He gets the most out of his guys and they love him and give him everything they have. He will tell a player you haven't made any plays, or you are not as good as you think and they'll go out and prove him wrong. When ESPN Gameday was in Baton Rouge and they talked about how Spikes had been underwhelming he told Spikes that himself and he came out and had a good game.

IMO he has almost all the tools, he just needs the chance.

Bro I do totally agree with you.

I agree with all your saying. Earlier in the thread I said he reminds me right now of Randy Shannon and skin color has nothing to do with it. Strong reminds me alot of Shannon. Thats a great compliment to Strong while Shannon has been doing well as head coach of Miami. I think that he would need a strong offensive corrdinator, But those two can recruit the daylights out of people. Anyways I doubt Meyer leaves Florida anyway

I was thinking like 5 years down the road. Meyer is signed through 2014 right now. I could see him leaving after then. Not many people can pull a bowden, joe pa or even a spurrier any more. Meyer will either be so burned out from the non-stop recruiting and late nights that he might just stop for awhile, or go to a small school where it's easier. Or do what Steve did, get so bored of winning it's time to find a new challenge.

I seriously doubt Strong is with the Gators in 5 yrs. He will be a head coach somewhere (Well I hope cause he deserves it). I think if Meyer goes anywhere it will be the next head coach of a pro football team. I don't know if it would get easier in a smaller school cause they would not get as great of recruits and what small school could actually pay him?

Heard a rumor today (sorry no link) that Strong has already accepted the job at Louisville. Take it for what it is worth... just a rumor. However, I could see it happening. I think he definitely deserves a shot. Just not sure how a Black coach does in the middle of Kentucky!?

I heard he was at the top of the list with someone else. I doubt any annoucement would be made until after the SEC titla game.

Yeah if anything, I could see him taking over a fringe team and trying to make them into a powerhouse if he truely becomes "bored" but I dont see him taking over a small team.

Apparently Charlie Strong is expected to be named HC of Louisville this week and Mike London will be UVA's new coach. Also expected to be announced this week.

Anyone else think Strong's deal was done before the Bama game? And thus, he did not spend enough time preparing for Bama? I know I do. Can not take ANYTHING away from Bama, but that is just my gut feelin.

No I don't think that way at all. Strong is a stand up guy and I doubt he would have let that come in the away of a possible National title. He did not meet with the Cardinals til Sunday anyway.

Well sounds like he lied about "staying" isnt that sort of what Saban did that has made him so hated?

Just saying I dont blame either one for leaving, actually its an unfair question to ask a coach until the season is over.

When did he lie? I have zero issues with what Saban did
