In the last year or so I've noticed that the tolerance lines regarding rape have been blurred substantially...by people looking to make money off the basest instincts of others, naturally.
The problem is that now the concept of rape is becoming institutionally, tacitly approved due to the proliferation of rape porn - first in animé years ago, then in live "rape" scenarios by actors in live-action porn, culminating in this crap now.
The insidious thing about this as opposed to other violent games such as shooter games is that while murder will still get you locked away for a long time in most cases, rape is an act committed thousands of times a day with relative impunity.
Commit a murder and your chances are pretty good you'll do some time; commit rape and chances are you will never do time, or do very little even if convicted of a first offense.
Therefore, while FPS games do desensitize people to violence to a degree, society has checks and balances in place to keep that from getting out of hand; with rape, not so much. It's happening so much, so often already that there is almost a sense of invulnerability among offenders.
It's a dangerous escalation in what already is a dangerous situation. -
I would say its controversy for the sake of controversy but given that its Japan we're talking about here some people are definately getting off to this.

Sounds GOTY worthy.

The Japanese have a different culture, that's for sure. But the fact is that this game isn't going to translate to increased rape.
The fact is that Japan has one of the lowest rape rates per capita in the world, about 20 times less than we have here in the USA. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_rap_percap-crime-rapes-per-capita
The United States isn't the highest per capita, but IS the highest on the planet in terms of sheer number of rapes. 4000% higher than Japan, and almost DOUBLE that of the next closest country.
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_rap-crime-rapes
The question is why is rape so much more prevalent HERE? Why is the USA so far behind a country like Japan, which has all this crazy sex stuff for sale to anyone who wants it? -
1) differences in population i.e. more people therefore more occurrences of things such as crime.
2) the societies willingness to overlook crimes such as rape.
3) the societies help structures set up to help rape victims.
So my question is do you really the us is above say countries in africa like sudan? What about middle eastern countries how many rapes do you think get reported there?LandShark13 likes this. -
The US is highest among countries who gather this type of information.
Could some countries that DON'T gather this info be higher? Yes. Per capita the USA is currently 9th, so I think it would be safe to say that there are countries not reporting that have a higher per capita rate.
I can't see any country having more in number, though. Not even the most populous country in the world, China. -
as for sheer numbers I think that can also change by viewing how reports are done. It is plausible though that the US is higher since it is one of the higher populations. -
This game is awesome. Graphically it's on par or better than the rest in the genre. The controls have been over hauled from the typical point-n-click ordeals usually found in rape simulators.
I'd say buy it. The Mor's official review, 10/10
And remember my motto: Go balls deep on that first thrust and gain that respect -
If you go by the per capita rate, South Africa would be FAR ahead of us if they had the same size population. -

Personally, I feel rape should be considered a higher crime than murder. Simply for the fact that, a rape victim is going to suffer for the rest of their life.
However, this is a game. Nothing more. Its gross, its horrible, but still not real. I wouldn't play it, but I also wouldn't want anyone to legislate things like this.Ultra likes this. -

Imagine what Project Natal could do for a game like this....

What makes this different than any other game? Sure it targets a different kind of animal but there are lots of games out there that I think are worst for people to play and Man Hunt is far worst IMO.
Also the Japanese are weird like that. Don't you know 90% of the weird **** comes from that country.
Do you see people getting married to Video game characters? -

I wonder if this is a way for rapists to "get-off" without bothering real people.

I'm deleting this game from my PC, MAC, iPod, iPhone, and dad's computer later tonight.GISH, jetssuck, unluckyluciano and 5 others like this. -
I would however to a background check on the "paid consultants" for this game if I'm the Japanese police. Just a hunch.Dolphin1184 likes this. -

Japan may have more sexual liberty available, but their society is overwhelmingly chivalrous and respectful to women; even their teen-model culture calls for respect toward the girls, revering them as "idols."
So, while Japan may seem to be the more promiscuous culture compared to the US, it also has some inherent cultural holds that keep the perverse from becoming mainstream.
In the US, we have the pretense of civility and we give a lot of lip service to "morality," but in fact we are a violent culture that inherently takes most opportunities to degrade women and exploits them to the extreme.
Rape is more common here because rape is a crime with its roots in VIOLENCE, not sex - which is why your argument is bull****. :wink2: -
-
Also their are 54th out of 65th when it comes to rape per capita. Which is pretty amazing.
I read a post on a BB were we talked about many personal things. One of the stories really stuck to me. A guy was raped by a man as a child. What hurt him more wasn't the fact that he was raped, it was the fact that he was now told that his life was ruined, he is going to be messed up for the rest of his life and that now he will probably become a child rapist as well.
A person can live a perfectly fine life after being violently raped. A person cannot live a life at all if they are killed.TrueDolFan likes this. -
There is an American Video game called Custer's Revenge. You get to rape an Native American woman with very big pointy boobs. While dodging arrows. Hard game.

I was trying to show that if people think that this kind of video game (which they have plenty of in Japan, and have for years) will lead to more rapes, they're dead wrong. The stats prove it. -
