    Why do it that way? What is the advantage over the winged RPV's that we have been using for military and scientific purposes?

    The article says it was "designed for aerial photography, geological surveys and emergency lighting".

    Just as a theory it maybe stealth/speed related? Unusual surface characteristic means less radar bounce possibly, or its shape is superaerodynamic making it faster or less fuel intensive?

    Or maybe they couldnt adapt the alien tech into a conventional winged craft? ;)
