Really it comes down to some kind of greatness. All the major teams that have won SBs in the last ten years had something phenomenal about them. The weakest example isn't even the NY Giants, it's the 2005 Steelers whose defense was probably top 3-4 in the decade.

 

Tom Brady had 3 rings because of his D, his SB lost was because the Giants D knocked the Sh!t out of him.
