Good to read. I have growing confidence in him, based off these reports and what I saw from Nolan's defense last season. I think if we run a lot of Man-Free, which I expect, he may end up being the 2 level deep safety and that will really help him out IMO. Simplified responsibilities that allow him to rely on his athletic ability and speed.
You have to play the kid to develop him. May God help us all. Actually we know he has the speed and athleticism but lets hope he has the awareness and range. That was for you padre
Let him sit, then hit. That works well provided Clemons doesn't decide to pull an ole like he did last year when making tackles. I don't know if he is as physical a player as he should be.
That's something I talked about earlier. He often looked lost last year, but he has the speed and tackling ability to be a last line of defense guy. I don't think he'll ever be a true ball hawk, but his ball skills are okay. So if the only thing he's really lacking is the know how, then giving him fewer responsibilities may allow him to be on the field without being a liability. There was a comment by Sparano that Clemons had made few or no mental mistakes during OTAs. That could either be b/c Clemons made a huge jump or b/c he has easier/fewer mental decisions to make (or a combination of the two).
will allen - yeremiah bell - chris clemons - vontae davis w/ smith, jason allen & redshad in the mix for 2010
problem is, if Will Allen is healthy and still has some spring in those legs, he's hands down the best CB on our team. I think we've all forgotten just how good he was for us for those 2-3 years.
I think they will also give him a chance, but I believe that Will Allen will start over Sean Smith in a couple of games.... from what I saw last year he was not consistent, especially on the long ball. Dont get me wrong I understand he was a rookie and they all make mistakes but it just seem that he made a bit too much and the Fact that he was 0 in INTs makes it hard for me to count on him.
i agree. considering where he was last year and how much he's improved according to reports I am actually expecting a breakout Pro Bowl type season from the guy.
Vontae had the bigger hits, but I'd rather see Smith starting opposite Will Allen. A more developed overall player. Good point about Will Allen though.
He'd have to be considerably better than he was last year. Last year he played no where near the pro bowl level that Allen was playing at prior to his injury.
All I remember of Allen last year prior to his injury was that he was drawing alot of penalties. Im not implying anything here, I'm just saying thats all I can remember of W. Allen's play in 09.
I'm not ready to annoint any of these guys yet. The only guy I can say with any degree of certainty will be starting week 1 is Y Bell. I expect to see Clemons back there with him at FS. Corner I am going to guess Davis and Allen. Smith at the nickle.
