CAV vs TT Chris Long actually looks pretty good He's facing double teams every down Long has a LOT of mobility and stand up and rush the passer very well he seem to me to be trying a little to much to make every play
He has to. He's the heart and soul of that D. I'm a fan. I think our picks still gonna be Gholston, but i'd be happy with either Long.
I have said this before and I will say it again . . . . if he is ANYTHING like is father Howie . . . I will welcome him to Miami with the #1 pick.
Long reminds me a lot of Matt Roth (with his relentless motor) when Roth was in college. Long is a better athlete with longer arms however
drop Roth? U mean get rid of MORE first day youth? Nah . . . I mean obviously if Taylor stays . . and we draft Long . . . Roth is NOT starting . . . but I like him as a situational pass rusher anyways . . . like a 6th man off the bench . . . he has a motor that doesn't stop and actually helps fire up the D. We need to compile this youth, and Roth is a part of the youth movement.
The Tuna knows Al Groh, so I would expect him to learn everything there is to know about this guy. If we keep the pick, I want Chris Long!
Chris Long may very well be the #1 talent in the 2008 NFL Draft. I tell you this: Long has taken his swipes, and put the ball in Glenn Dorsey's court. Dorsey has to have a BIG game against OSU to keep up for that #1 title. Jake Long has a bad day. He's not up there anyway. Jeff Otah has been my #1 OT for months.
hei is our first pick, unless we get blown away by an offer, he fits everything you want in a first pick
Just a quick question if Zach retire's wouldn't it be in our best interest to pick Gholston or try to trade down and maybe grab Luarinitis?
I think that you are right. It is up to Dorsey to prove he is better than C Long now. I would be disappointed if we picked J Long. Not because the position isn't a need, more that Chris Long and Dorsey are better prospects at their positions, than Jake is. We already have OT's that can help, but are desperate on DL and secondary.
Luarinitis is coming out. But from what I've seen of Chris Long he is a ****ing monster. I want him and I want him immediately.
CK, I know Boomer and Desides have had good things to say about Vernon Gholston, my darkhorse for the #1 pick. Just interested in what you thought of him, and was wondering if Chris Long can in fact play the OLB in a 3-4? Didn't get a chance to watch him play today however, ardent supporters of the Big 10 invaded and was forced to watch the Florida - Michigan game. I think he's great as a 3-4 DE, but have never seen him drop back the way Gholston does.
I've said now for a month that Chris Long should be our pick if we stay at 1.....I was hoping actually that we could move down a little for extra picks and still get him but he won't be up there long so if we want him we might have to take him at 1. Ozzy rules!!
I agree comlpetely. Not a fan of Jake Long personally. I'm not about to say he'll be a bust. I just don't think he's top 1st round talent nor that he's a talent near Chris Long. I've been in favor of Chris Long over Dorsey from day 1. If we pick either I won't be dissapointed but I have my worries about Dorsey as well. If we stay at 1 C. Long is the best choice IMO by far.
I like Little Howie....I think Dorsey is kind of a health risk, and it sounds like Long would give us a lot of flexibility in the 3-4.....either C-Long or Gholston would be my pick, unless we trade down.
I don't think you'll see Chris Long dropping back into a rushing linebacker role. He' a true DE in the 3-4. The thing is in the 3-4 your ends usually are almost more like DTs. They occupy a guard and a tackle and allow the rushing outside LB to be isolated by a TE or chipped by a rb/fb. 3-4 DEs usually are more of inside run stuffers. Chris Long has been a superstar sack machine as a 3-4 DE all year long. I think that makes hime EXTREMELY sexy for a team converting to a full time Parcells 3-4. Fortunately for us there is really some top shelf defensive talent in this draft. If we stay at #1 (which I would be really surprised if we manage to engineer a trasde down.) we have the options of Gholston/Dorsey/Long. Long would provide a ton of firepower from the DE position. Gholston would be more of the rushing linebacker that you mention earlier. I know Boomer and some other of the braintrust around here feel that Dorsey could play NT in a 3-4. I personally feel that he is more a a 4-3 gap DT. He could definitely play end in a 3-4 too. I personally would take Chris Long over Dorsey for the end spot in a 3-4 though. But don't get me wrong...Dorsey is a monster. A lot of people around here sell him way too short. All three exhibit character and have great motors. Personally without a trade down I think it's Chris Long though. I think Chris could end up with his bust next to his pappy's some day in the Hall.
