I haven't watched a lot of Steeler ball this year so I can't really say who I believe to be better, but I was surprised he didn't make it. The Pro-Bowl being a popularity contest isn't exactly a new idea either - or really an argument - since I'm not sure one can even argue against it.

EDIT: inb4 someone brings objective stats in to prove me wrong

I'll ask the same thing I asked when he was drafted:

How many Td's does he score?

Snark, or piercing commentary aside, this is a product of that huge attendance drop we had b/c..well we don't score Td's

Out of curiosity, where did C Ryan Cook finish per PFF?

That kind of obnoxious question only warrants those kinds of responses.

The real question is how many more TDs are Bush and Tannehill scoring bc of him?

    thought so.

This is a part of my dislike of Ireland, for whatever reason "us" fans have bought into the notion that some Lineman is of course more valuable than a playmaker

At this point it is untennable a position to hold, but it is sort of all we have to hold onto thanks to Ireland.

We've seen 5 yrs of this, "oh bolster the trenches, that is where games are won and lost"!

Basically, if you add up the Td's players Ireland has drafted since 2010, guess how many Td's they've scored for us?

    Take a wild guess.

Sorry Slick, Egnew could not make it on the field, Marshall went for 1466 and 11 Td's and we are sitting here grousing about Mike Pouncey not making a pro bowl?

    Really?

    Are we stupid?

    Of course.

The answer is about 14 or so, probably less.

Ireland's most productive Td scoring player acquired this past offseason?

Marcus Thigpen, a UDFA from the CFL

Good centers do not win games, neither do good LT's, yet, here we are.

  10. I would get a kick out of Wake snubbing the probowl for snubbing his teammates. Im not saying he should just that it would be funny if he did.

Yes and no...Yes, we're ridiculously stupid for not drafting Gronkowski (yet another case of a doctor's opinion ****ing us). No, because if you don't have decent line play to start with, you've already lost.

Highest drafted center ever. Making the Hall of Fame should be par, given that particular distinction.

If draft position plays in any way to career expectations (which it does), then Pouncey can't really win even if he has that HoF career. Must suck to be the best and merely meet expectations as a result.

    Argumentum absurdum is rather appropriate.

But all means, do tell how many pancake blocks lead to yet another 7-9 (most likely) season and how "winning in the trenches" wins games so we must invest our highest value assets into them only finish 7-9 yet again.

Oh, and then say "good riddance" to 1466/11 Td's for Egnew and a 3rd rd pick in the draft this year is somehow a worthwhile trade.

Good thing we win those trenches!

    Absurdity defined.

Here is where this comes into play:

Following that illogic, of course we must then spend our highest valued (and cheapest to use) assets to acquire them!

So fans can argue not over Td's and great plays, but over pro bowl snubs!

the return on the investment in an OL will ALWAYS be less than an investment on an above the mean offensive player.

If draft picks are capital to invest, offensive lineman stand alone in least quantifiable effect on scoring Td's which leads to winning games.

The false assumption one is making is that the ONLY way to acquire players who "can win in the trenches" is to spend our most valuable assets to acquire them even though they have the least return on investment of any position on the field.

    IE: "cripple fight'

We are like investors in a bankrupt company hoping for a 10 cent return, instead of a 20 dollar return.

Wrong again. Jorvorskie Lane has more TDs than Thigpen, as he has 2 rushing and 1 receiving.

Additionally, Tannehill has as many of his own TDs as Thigpen.

Yeah, yeah. We understand, we can't allocate resources to one spot and not expect another to start leaking.

I still believe it's a big man's game and if your o-line has no integrity, then it seems like the logical place to start.

Our #1 overall pick big man has been leaking for 2 years now.

On a ROI pov, we got ****ed in taking Long, literally there is no objective measure that has him coming out on top over Ryan.

Pouncey and even Martin were better values, we landed THill and Pouncey, Martin cost us no playmakers

However if one looks at that as a ROI move, Jake Long was even MORE expensive to acquire.

    Padre is killing it tonight.

Y'all can have fun with your outdated John Madden "win in the trenches" macho baloney. The game has changed to benefit the passing game. Ireland has completely IGNORED the WR and TE position. Oh wait, he did draft Clyde Gates and Eggnog.
