I haven't seen any mention of that choice he made near the end of the game. That stopped the clock with a considerable amount of time left than would have been there if he had stayed in. Do you blame Clay?

its been mentioned in the game thread and one or 2 other threads, there just hasn't been a thread about it. lol.
I didn't like the play call, I preferred a run in bounds to run the clock down, but it ended up being a good safe pass with a chance for a much needed 1st down. I can't believe the idiot ran out of bounds. I bet he's still getting chewed out for it. I feel bad for him when they watch the fim and Sherman cusses him out!the 23rd likes this. -
He was a complete idiot on that play, so freaking stupid. If you could read Tannehill's lips he when he went to the sideline he was saying something to the effect of, "why did he run out of bounds?"
I'm sure he is going to get a talking to. -
There was no problem with the play call it was a pretty simple on a roll out and I bet if Clay was not open Tannehill would have ran with it. The problem is Lanes poor decision running out of bounds. This guy looked good in preseason but has done nothing for us in the regular season, he cant break tackles so stop handing him the ball on fourth and inches he will fail. Some coach better him aside this week and blast him we cant have poor execution from players by doing something as stupid as running out of bounds under two minutes when the other team has ZERO timeouts. NON EXCUSABLE!!
-
The team just came out of a time out...you had to know they discussed the play call...and someone ...everyone told Clay to stay in bounds. You could see the look on everyones face...like..."didn't we just tell him to stay in bounds?????" I can't image a more mind boggling choice by Clay...bordered on criminal

The impression I get is that this is the kind of thing that this coaching staff has no tolerance of. Not being prepared or aware of the situation. Not being a smart "football player"
And on that drop it seemed he didn't get his head around quick enough, which is appalling to me.Bpk likes this. -
This dude has consistently **** the bed the season. That play was an absolute bonehead play that is inexcusable. Add in his drops and you ask yourself why the heck he is still out on the field as often as he is. I would absolutely let him hear it about that. Not like he has been a valuable contributor this year.

Sophmore Slump?

He made a mental mistake. These things happen to young players. I'm sure the coaches will talk to him about it. I don't really think it's "unforgivable" or that he was an "idiot." And do we really need a thread about it?

Relax we won. :wink2: -
I don't even know why we threw on that down to begin with. I think everyone had a WTF moment when it happened. I still like Clay's game but Egnew awaits.

well i think i would call him in the office and then....oh wait won the game i dont give a ****....lol

Why would you NOT blame Clay?
IMO Clay is turning out to be the kind of player who is just too unfocused on his craft to fit with this regime. You saw it on Hard Knocks, and you're seeing it on the field almost every week.
IMO his running out of bounds is the equivalent of a shortstop's fielding a hard-hit grounder with one out and a runner on first, and letting his typical routine kick in and throwing the ball to first instead of to second to start the double play. Would you blame the shortstop for that mental error? Of course! Who the hell else are you going to blame? -
I actually didn't like the call. It was pretty much guaranteed to not pick up the first and by calling a boundary play you risk your player going out of bounds. Call me unconventional but I throw to the middle of the field to Fasano behind the linebackers or to Bess on a slant/drag route.
Though I guess maybe that fumble vs Arizona would scare some people out of that type of play call, it didn't phase me. Put the ball in your QB's hands and let him get you a first down to ice it. -
Then again most of my offensive views are slightly off kilter. -
Alex. I am afraid we cannot hire you as the Dolphins next head coach.
I loved playing you in Madden, btw, because your choices of scheme, playcalling etc were off the beaten path. I mean, you were the only I guy I know playing a strange 4-4 defense, a 4DL 4-linebacker defensive scheme with inverted zone drops by the DL. lol. As a BASE! -
The thing is I can forgive physical mistakes, but mental mistakes are unacceptable. When you combine the two, you have to sit. Give him a week to sit back and watch the game. That play wasn't his only mistake. He also dropped a pass that had he caught, he would've ran for at least 30 yards. I know it's the heat of the battle and he is trying to make a play but come on every person in the game day thread knew to get out of bounds and was livid over clays decision. (I liked the play call honestly)

It's really not surprising when my two favorite play callers offensively (not as HC's they were terrible in that role honestly) are Mike Martz a d Scott Linehan. Guys that were never afraid to throw the ball in any situation, super aggressive and go for the kill. I was really hoping we'd hire Gruden as our head coach because of the formations and offensive style he wanted to bring to the pro game after doing a lot of college scouting.
That 4-4 defense was great to play  such good times. -
Basically I mean this: If you're going to run the clock....run the ball and do it. If you want to take a shot at the first down....throw the ball and do it. Don't call a play that has the distinct possibility of doing neither. In my opinion you don't throw towards the edge short of the marker, because ball carriers have the natural instinct of running along the sideline. Usually doing so is an advantage (one less direction you can take a hit from, if you fumble it goes out of bounds) but in this case it really wasn't. Part of that obviously goes on Clay but I don't think the call helped him exactly.
Overall it's a small gripe, I've really liked our play calling for the most part this season. -
I also don't like the call because it essentially cut the field in half and gave Ryan basically one receiver to throw the ball to. You're putting all your eggs in the Clay basket. You're basically banking on them blitzing in a situation they shouldn't and didn't.
At the end of the day Clay should have stayed in bounds regardless. -
Sound like super hero names. -

All I can say, between that plays and the drops, that Egnew must be really bad. No offense to Fasano, but a rookie with talent should be able to overcome his grib on starting job, let alone second string slot. Clay big disappointment, but not ready to give up on him. Egnew, huge disappointment...wr anyone ?>
-
Back on topic, I agreed with the call, I was wanting a screen pass on the play as the Bengals were selling out on the run. When Clay voluntarily ran out of bounds I was screaming at the screen to cut his *** there and then. Completely idiotic play, that's the kind of thing that gets you fired. -
I would be surprised if Clay gets cut anytime soon. There's a whole lot of upside there, and I think they are going to really try hard to get it out. Clay can be a really good player, and has a lot of skills they like. Even if he isn't performing great as a receiver, there's no one else eating up the depth chart at tight end and he's a quite serviceable lead blocker.

c. our WR
d. put your complains in here...
man if this team really should change its culture and philbin has something going...some of you need to change and accept a win and stop *****ing about it....its ridiculous
