Take with with a grain of salt, because it is Clayton speaking.
I didnt expect a guy with 2 starts to light it up, but hey if its true and he is really struggling, maybe Philbin was right and told Ireland that Flynn isnt ready?
Or maybe we just suck and are stupid.

I've never felt Flynn was an upgrade over Moore and never wanted him, so I'm fine with this news.

That is a lot of money for a backup.

See Arizona as well. Lol.
I am much happier that we decided to draft 'our' guy instead. I was completely against Flynn for whatever reason. Not enough tape on the guy to get into a bidding war likely my reason.HULKFish likes this. -
Hey Frumundah, the first thing that came to my mind after reading the post was your avatar. How fitting!

Normally, I'd agree with you about Clayton, but this is Seattle he's talking about...that's his home base and where is ties are...it's probably pretty solid info... -

Well, it no longer matters anyway, but I think for the most part of us, we all pretty much said that IF they passed on Flynn, (which they did), then we'd have to back up Philbin given his intimate knowledge of the situation with him.
That said, I don't really care how Flynn does now. I hope he does well except when playing the Fins... -
They said all along this is going to be a competition between Tarvaris, Russell and Matt. Now that they turn out to not be lying, suddenly it's news that they're not liars. Interesting.
-
I think its just an indication that Jackson is ahead at this time and that would be what is expected from a starter of the previous season
-
Impossible. Isn't this the same guy that sent fans over the edge when we "failed" to sign him?

I would say that this "story" is completely ridiculous, but the counter-point to it would be what's going on in Cleveland. The Browns fully intended to create a quarterback competition between Colt McCoy, Brandon Weeden and Seneca Wallace, but that hasn't materialized because Brandon Weeden has absolutely blown the hell out of the competition already. So now the Browns are left back tracking and trying to figure out ways to change their mind without looking like they're changing their mind. So, in that sense, Matt Flynn could have technically done the same, although I would personally say not really since he's not the type to overwhelm you with a physical skill set.

That's not really what's going on.
McCoy has been pissy since CLE drafted Weeden, iirc, and his relationship w/ the organization has circled the drain since then.
Also, outplaying Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace isn't some amazing feat either. I'd like Chad Henne or the great John Beck's odds in that situation :lol:Fin-Omenal likes this. -
I wanted Matt Flynn because I thought there was zero chance Ireland would draft a QB round 1. Rolling the dice on Tannehill, in my humble uneducated opinion was the better move. But only history will prove it one way or the other.

Actually yes that is what's going on. I haven't heard any problems with McCoy's attitude since they made it clear he can compete for the job, especially initially, which is pretty much when Brandon Weeden won the job. He's just been flat out better.
-
Between Ryan Tannehill and David Garrard I like the combination better than if the alternative were just signing Matt Flynn. But between Ryan Tannehill and David Garrard versus Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson, that decision would definitely have me awake at night.
Brandon Weeden I would take over them all.dolfan32323 likes this. -
Evidence? The Browns have said multiple times they'll give Colt McCoy every opportunity to win the start. And Seneca Wallace.
-
Don't you remember last year when McCoy got that concussion?
Everything started to go down hill from there if you saw what his family was saying about CLE.
I don't think I really need any evidence to explain why nobody would seriously consider Seneca Wallace to be a legit candidate in a QB competition. -
Weeden should easily win that job easily just for the fact that he has unknown potential. Wallace and McCoy suck, and have sucked their entire careers...
-
Just like David Garrard isn't seriously considered competition for Ryan Tannehill?

Isn't that kind of like someone saying they have 100% confidence in Sparano after trying to hire Harbaugh?BlameItOnTheHenne likes this.

Brandon Weeden, Russell Wilson, Ryan Tannehill is exactly why I didn't want to sign Matt Flynn, especially Weeden and Wilson, but, if your front office believes that Flynn is good enough, it also probably believes that you shouldn't be taking a Qb in the first round..I'm happy we weren't that front office..
-
I think that in both scenarios the teams had a clear favorite of who they would like to see win the jobs, but yes those situations do contrast each other based on the early results. I think clearly the Browns hoped Weeden would win the job. You don't draft a 28 year old QB with thoughts of him sitting very long IMO. From all reports though, he is looking great in camp, so regardless of who they wanted to win the battle, Weeden would still be the guy based off of performance. In Seattle I think you obviously want Flynn to win the job as well. You go out and sign him, and while he may not have gotten a huge deal you still sold him as being a franchise guy even though you always said it would be a competition. Despite that, he has failed to pull away from the field.
I like Flynn and think he will eventually win the job, but I think the Dolphins knew what they were doing when they low-balled him and despite all of the BS they took from the media and fans, I think they handled the QB situation very well this offseason. -
During the off-season, "Guys, he only had two starts, that proves nothing. Flynn isn't an upgrade"
After a few throws in June, "See, we were right to pass on Flynn."
Not pro-Flynn or anything and wouldn't be shocked if he didn't start week 1, just find that funny.GreysonWinfield likes this. -
I don't know about a matter of time, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if 2 years from now he was their starting QB and doing well in that role.
-
Brandon Weeden is guy i wanted more than Tannehill. i have a post before the draft that i've been waiting to bring back up but i'm waiting til Weeden and Tannehill has played enough in the NFL to compare them. Hopefully they're both good. in that post i stated that Weeden wouldn't go past the 22nd pick to Cleveland and that's exactly what happened. -
You and CK both! :P
-
We get it. You like Weeden.

I agree... having said that, I would fully expect Moore or Flynn to have beaten out Tavaris Jackson.
I mean were not talking talent here when mentioning Jackson.
If Flynn can't beat out him.... wow.... MAJOR bust warning.
Having said that.
Teams aren't even in pads yet so I wouldn't really be concerned at all at this point if I was a Seattle fan.
