Having grown up in Washington D.C. the first half of my life, and living in South Florida for the second half of my life, I must say that after four years`and a record of 24 wins and 25 losses, it is time for coach Philbin and his cronies to pack up and go!!! The owner Ross needs to grow some balls and get a coach with verve, personality, and a little chutzpah. I blame Philbin for not only the disastrous past few seasons of the Dolphins play, but also for the miserable career start of what should have been, a franchise quarterback in Ryan Tannehill. It may not be too late for Tannehill, (although I have my doubts), but if Ross keeps Philbin around, he's wasting the time of his most important asset. Us, the fans, and wasting his own money on the stadium renovations. Watching this season opener versus the Skins just cements my feelings. Am I completely wrong about this? Chime in and share your feeling. PLEASE!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the forum. Though this probably isn't the best time to start this thread--week 1 of the season, the team just won. There are a lot of other things to discuss. In all honesty...it's week 1. The Colt's also looked pretty awful today. Maybe there's a point to be made, but it ain't now. You ought to be able to think of something else to post that's a little more constructive and will spur decent conversations. I'd say relax and pump the brakes on the anti-Philbin stuff for about 4-5 months, alright? There will be plenty of it, sadly.
We won. Played like crap (except some players) but won. Give them a chance to correct mistakes during the season. Remember how crappy Brady and the Pats looked last year at the beginning? And let's not forget that any defense that gives up only 10 points is a defense you can win with, despite all the errors. Enjoy the win man!
He started the thread well before the game finished. It should be a lesson to all that you shouldn't quit on the team (during a game) until they've officially lost the game.
First games of the year can typically be ugly. Especially when teams are pretty vanilla with their playbooks in preseason. First time in live action for the real offensive playbook. Can't say I was surprised by the offense. Defense on the other hand, getting run all over, that was a very discouraging sign. The one thing I will say about Philbin though, this team needs to stop coming out so flat, and seemingly uninspired.
Vegas has us in the playoffs...they have us with fair odds to get to the AFCCG or Super Bowl...and their line for this game was FOUR points. Miami won by 7. That's a good thing. There were some tentative moments, and RT was off his game hard today, but I'll take it week 1 on the road.
I love how people expect every game against an inferior opponent to be a blowout win. It doesn't work that way. Grinded out a win on the road. No, it wasn't very pretty. But a win is a win and it still tastes wonderful.
Complained, and posted before the loss, but I can understand the reply. Not picking on the team as most seem to say. Just very disappointed over the past few seasons and I,(can only speak for myself), am putting the blame on the coaching staff. As far as this season goes.....Go Dolphins!!!!!!! Good start! ps, thanks for the welcome from MrClean. May I suggest you not think so hard next time. I wouldn't want you to hurt yourself.
Im not sure they are well articulated here, but there absolutely should be concerns after the win today. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
Oh, trust me, if you're around here a while, you'll see plenty harping on the coaching staff...and in my opinion, it's warranted to an extent. There were several plays today that had me shaking my head, but a lot of them were on the players too, so it was overall ugly, glad to get the win.
And why no Devante Parker??? All I heard was how good he was looking this week. And then he doesn't even see the field???
Newsflash.....those stadium upgrades are not for the Miami fans, but so that Ross can land more college playoff games, and Super Bowls. If you think otherwise you are drinking some nice "blind ***" kool-aid
We probably all thought the same thing. Maybe the team felt he just wasn't ready. Matthews certainly took those snaps. Stills wasn't even in the game all that much himself. I'll be interested to see the snap counts, but it seemed like after Sims went out, it was Landry, Jennings, Matthews and Cameron on the field on almost every snap.
A win is a win. Yet the Dolphins are extremely lucky they were playing one of the worst teams in the NFL today. To only score 10 points on offense against the Redskins mediocre defense is absurd. Tannehill had a very mediocre game and was extremely lucky the two balls he threw directly to the Redskins defensive backs were dropped. While the defense played better in the second half. Questions remain as to how the LB's and secondary will hold up once they play against a decent offense. The Redskins lost their best WR early in the game and Cousins certainly showed that he is nothing but a backup type QB in the NFL. I suspect the Redskins will be looking to draft a QB in the first round of next years draft. It is nice to start out 1-0, but the Dolphins are going to have to play a lot better going forward then they did today if they hope to have a chance of making the playoffs. Especially when you consider the fact that all the teams in the AFC East started the season 1-0 and the other three teams in the division looked a lot better in their wins than the Dolphins. The one huge positive from the game today besides the win itself was the play of Landry. Right now he appears to be the best player on the entire team and that includes Suh.
You know what else the Dolphins are lucky about? We play the Jags next. So we have at least one more game to get our act together. Also, don't forget to praise Grimes and Jones. They played well too.
That loss didn't surprise me at all. They played the game in Buffalo and I happen to think the Bills are the Patriots main competition in the AFC East this year. I can easily see the Bills winning at least 10 games this season.
I really think Coyle is more of a problem than Philbin. How in the world did we get manhandled on the defensive line early on? They were constantly cut blocking Suh early in the game, I would have thought that would have pissed him off more than anything. They clearly made some adjustments at the half but the D was not even close to what I expected coming into this game. All said a road win to open the season even against what we all perceive as a bad team is still a good thing. I'll take it.
Half time adjustments must have worked so he's got that going for him. Sent from my SM-G360T1 using Tapatalk
Coyle is the DC because Philbin hired him. Even after the total collapse by the defense late in the 2014 season, Philbin decided to keep Coyle. If not for Ross forcing him to fire Sherman after the 2013 season, Sherman would still be the OC of the Dolphins. The job of the head coach is to hire a coaching staff which gets the most out of the talent on the roster. Philbin just hadn't shown the ability to hire the type coaches which get this type production from the team on a consistent basis. As the head coach, when you refuse to change coordinators without being forced to by your owner and you come into the season with a losing record as a head coach, you are the problem.
we think. so far. I like how you take the dolphins as current , but still stand by your preseason thoughts of the redskins.
I agree we should be happy with this win but I have to agree that the abysmal play calling reminded me with this simple fact we will never win a Super Bowl with this idiotic coaching staff. I had a ton of optimism heading into season but now I am conflicted. If we make the playoffs we may be stuck with Philbin and Coyle for a few more years. We can make the playoffs with them and even win a playoff game or two. But we will never go all the way with those 2 morons. Joe Philbin is not a leader, and I don't think he is capable of running your local TGI Fridays let alone an NFL team. He is hands down the worst coach in the NFL.
To the "Ohio Fanatic". Now YOU have just been SCHOOLED. SO.......Why don't YOU sit back, or better yet...... GO AWAY. With the number of posts you have here, it appears you need a job and have WAY too much time on your hands.
Two Down, COYLE Gone! Any Questions? Where oh where is The "Ohio Fanatic"? Super commentator, super member, super annoying.
