Someone call up Zach Thomas and ask him to do the same thing. I want him to just keep giving Wes the stink eye for defecting to the Pats.

Not that it was Wes's fault considering his agent approached the Dolphins several times about a contract extension and the Dolphins blew him off.

 

Heh, he knows who gave him a shot. You can always come home Wes. Plus Landry and Parker with his help could be animals.

 

Would love for Gase to offer him a position on his staff, tough as hell, smart..played in a complex scheme with one of the best of all time..lots of knowledge in that brain..

I'd like him as asssistant WR coach, absolutely. He seems to still have a lot of fire for the game, but injuries won't let him play anymore. Very, very smart and savvy player. Had to work hard to make it into the league, and those guys often make the best coaches. As to Zach and JT, yes please. We couldn't ask for better role models for the players or representatives for the club.

 

The Dolphins already have a WR coach, and an assistant WR coach. I wonder if Welker isn't angling for a coaching internship in the program the NFL has for retired players, like the Dolphins had with Al Harris a couple of years ago before he joined the Chiefs.

There's also the possibility you can create a sub-position coaching spot- A slot receiver coach. You see that kind of specialization more defensively(with a coach just for corners, just for 3-4 OLBs, etc.), but I think it could make sense for the Dolphins, given that they're likely to create a lot of "slot" opportunities on the field, and have a lot of young players in the sub-position.

Another guy who I think could do well with Welker's tutelage is Thomas Duarte.

 

No limit to the number of coaches we can have though, you know? Remember what a big deal it was when Saban had so many people on staff? I was thinking about how a lot of those guys went on to be head coaches themselves, so more knowledge can't be a bad thing, as long as everyone's on the same page. And remember, Gase got his start with Saban.
