I wish we would go after Mike Singletary, but I guess thats just not going to happen. Really, there is not a name on that list that I could get excited about except Garrett . . . and I think he is too green behind the ears.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN just reported on ESPN First Take that Mike Tice could possibly be a candidate. I hope not, i dont want the guy.

 

Don't immediately rule out first timers-- everyone had to get their start at one point or another.

Keep in mind, for every Cam Cameron and Marty Mornhinweg, there's always an Andy Reid, Tony Dungy or Bill Cowher looming.

Honestly, where is Marty S. Has anyone heard anything about this guy? I was honestly thinking that his name would be brought up more for our HC vacancy but it really hasn't been.

 

First-timers are the best option

Generally speaking, the best coaches are first-time coaches. Retreads are retreads for a reason. Occasionally you'll get a coach that temporary retires, like Parcells did when he left the Giants, or Cowher, or you'll get a guy that is inexplicably fired, like Marty Schottenheimer in Washington, or San Diego, but usually a coach with previous experience who succeeds wildly the second-time around--Bill Belicheck, Tony Dungy, or Marv Levy for instance, is the rarest of gems. Do we really want a Tom Coughlin, Wade Phillips, or Norv Turner-type? If you go back and look at Super Bowl-winning coaches--Lombardi, Stram, Landry, Madden, Noll, Flores, Walsh, Seifert, Gibbs, Parcells, Ditka, Holmgren, JJ, Billick, Cowher, they were first-time NFL coaches. Guys like Shula, Belicheck, Vermeil, Gruden, Shanahan, and Dungy are the exceptions.

 

I've been pulling for Josh McDaniels to get a HC job sooner or later. I remember last offseason when names were being throw out there and I said if you wanted an offensive guy why not McDaniels who has helped developed Brady into the QB he is today. He also help put up big numbers early on in the season, he was still creative enough to keep winning through the air even when every knows the Patriots are a throwing team.

I thought the Raiders were going to hire him last year before they instead went with Lane Kiffin. Josh McDaniels is under that Parcells tree.

 

I think that we have a great Front Office structure in place that a first year head coach can really succeed. If he needs some helpful avice with something he has Ireland and Parcells. I'm also interested in Pepper Johnson.

 

Anyone is better than Cameron..
